I have just heard from Cullen of Twilighters, the Italian version of the Lexicon. Stephenie has just begun her Italian tour. 

One Italian media website talks about how Internet fans have really brought Twilight success in Italy because there was no real promotional campaign. It was all due to web interaction. The same article also mentions the Twilight Lexicon and Twilighters as quality sites that provide real information to fans as well as being a fun place for people to meet up who share the same interest. If you don;t speak Italian, you can translate the page using babelfish; it’s not a perfect translation, but it gives you a rough idea.

According to Cullen( who I am ever so grateful speaks English, because I can read Italian, but I can’t write it.):

"I would like to update you on Stephenie’s visit to Italy. Yesterday she had a lot of interviews with Italian journalists from the most important newspapers.

This afternoon she presented New Moon on the national radio, channel 3. They picked New Moon as "the book of the day" and she read the first page in English, then answered the questions.  You can hear and download the podcast from the radio website (perhaps it will be available from tomorrow, as they just finished recording right now

Tomorrow we’ll meet her in Volterra, and the Italian editor has allowed us an interview right before the presentation of New Moon, which will take place in a wonderful theatre downtown Volterra. We’re so looking forward to tomorrow!!!"

Cullen will give us continued reports of what is going on including pictures, and then when Stephenie moves on to Spain, our friends over at Crepúsculo will continue coverage

All right folks.  Here it is.  What I’m sure will be known as the most insane, giggle happy, pointless Forks-cast ever.  This was recorded on May 4th in Nashville, TN with me, silly_bella, Cocoa, bronzehaired girl, Be My Escape, and Vamp Wannabe.  I’m serious when I say that it is pointless.  For those of you who always say you like it  when we laugh… well… I think this Forks-cast has more laughing than talking.  You have been warned.  I SWEAR to you all that not a single one of us had anything stronger than Coke to drink.

~Yes. We now realize that the Volterra shirts have Volterra spelled wrong on them. We shall fix it! Never fear! But give us some time. It was a typo on the site that never got fixed, and, when the shirts were made, the information on the site was automatically used.

Before I start, I just want to say thank you to Twix, Roo, Candyland, and Seraphyn because I am using their pictures as well as my own in various parts of this post.

So, here’s info on the other events outside of the Prom itself.

I arrived on Thursday morning and after picking up Seraphyn and the future Mr. Seraphyn in my bright orange Chevy (details to follow on car in a podcast) we went to lunch at Rumbi’s with a bunch of other adult fans. Rumbi’s has this Hawaiian themed food that was amazing. Too bad that they only have restaurants in Utah, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado. I was starving since I had only had plane food and due to the time difference my body thought it was about 4:00pm. We also got lost getting there because Google maps and my AAA map frankly sucked. I bought a better map in Walgreens later.

Friday I caught up with someone I’ve known from my LiveJournal who actually has actually become a Twilight fan, and believe it or not I had nothing to do with hooking him. We had a great lunch and talked about all sorts of things Twilight and not Twilight related.

Later that day I met up with Ardent_Otaku a Changing Hands Bookstore to give her my extra ticket that she was then going to swap with Candyland so they could be at the right proms with their friends.  I didn’t get to the meadow gathering because I was doing this and then going to Target for sandals because I broke the heel on the pair I had been wearing. I’ll save the bookshop hilarity for a podcast.

That night I went to dinner with one Nim rah of MySpace fame and Tayls, one of her mods and a member here, and Seraphyn and Mr.S. We found this great Italian place and ate outside. Awesome food and a really funny waiter. The only thing that happened is that dinner took longer than I bargained for and I missed the Marriott party, which would have been really convenient since it was at my hotel.

The next day I went to IHOP for the "Breakfasttime for the Humans" get together. I also looked like death warmed over because I didn’t get any sleep the night before and I had no make-up on. Again I got there late because of a bad map and road construction. Now Eurka and Fenear pulled together a great event, and made it work when they were expecting like 20 and 50 showed up. I met Candyland and her group that came in a car covered in Edward items including pictures of them where their husbands had been photoshopped out and Henry Cavil had been photoshopped in. At this breakfast (again details to follow in a podcast or perhaps two) I was presented with a scepter of doom. The was made by Roo, Roo’s sister, and Forever Young. They made it after hearing that I did not have a real scepter.

Right after IHOP we traveled to Holiday Inn and I think to Isabella Cullen’s room. I was the first to have my hair done. About 20 people invaded and Roo went to work being a hairstylist. She did an amazing job in like 20 minutes. I only regret that I couldn’t have stayed longer, but the hotel was a bit away from my hotel and with my make-up still to be done, road construction, and getting dressed I had to take off.

After prom was the amazing I Love Jacob Black Pajama Party (scroll down). Twix and Elisabeth did a fabulous job of putting together goody bags like you wouldn’t believe. We had a quiz where we earned Stephenie bucks that we would later use to bid on Jacob themed items. We played Twilight Cranium with three teams (vampire, werewolf, and human). There were also contests for best fan art, best Jacob themed 500 word fan fic, best Twilight Barbie, and best PJ’s. The party was wonderful, but I was so do tired (pardon the pun) I was barely aware of what was happening around me by the end. If I seemed aloof to anyone, I apologize but I was quite literally falling asleep on my feet and I nearly got into what could have been a serious accident on the way back to my hotel.

Sorry it took so long to get this posted, but I landed back in NJ at around midnight on Sunday and was home at 1:30am and had to work the next day.

Partially to test how well I remembered Alphie’s instructions, I created a character bio for the lovely Quil Ateara. It’s limited, of course, to what we learn about him in New Moon, but I’ll be able to update it in a couple of months after I read Eclipse!

Physical description: Quil is described as dark-skinned and shorter than Embry, but burly and with an impish grin. (NM6 p.138)   But, like Jacob, Quil grew quickly, even prior to his transformation; Bella notices that “he looked bigger than the last time I’d seen him.”  In his wolf form, Quil was “deep chocolate brown, lighter over his face” (EC19 p. 429).(NM11)

Personal history: Quil is one of Jacob’s closest friends. He and Embry both have unusual names and, as Jacob explains, “They fight dirty if you start on their names—they’ll tag team you.” (NM6)  Quil, Jacob and Embry all speculated about the growing influence of Sam’s “cult,” but none of them guess what is really going on. (NM7)

Later, after Embry and Jacob have gone through the change, Bella sees Quil walking along the side of the road looking “bleak, brooding, his forehead creased with worry.” He explains that he’d seen Jacob and Embry at a distance, but they ran into the forest and, even though he chased after them, he couldn’t find them. Bella tells him that she plans to wait for Jacob at his house; Quil wishes her good luck. (NM11 p. 259-260)

After Bella discovers Jacob and Embry’s secret, Embry and Jacob hint that Quil might be the next to transform. (NM14 p. 344) Quil became a werewolf, joined the pack and was “jazzed, totally thrilled” (EC5 p. 114). Unlike many of his pack mates, Quil was happy to be a shape shifter because it was cool, he was “in the know”, he was back in contact with his friends, and he enjoyed the speed, freedom, strength and family bonds (EC5 p. 114, EC11 p. 259). He participated in patrolling the land for rogue vampires (EC4 p. 105).

When visiting Emily Young’s house, Quil met her nieces and he imprinted on Claire, who was two years old at the time (EC8 p. 174). This caused a bit of a scandal because of the huge age difference, but as Jacob tried to explain to Bella, there was nothing romantic about the bond at that stage because he would “become whatever she need[ed] you to be, whether that’s a protector, or a lover, or a friend, or a brother” (EC8 p 176).

Quil attended his first Quileute council meeting to hear the tribe legends at the same time Bella attended (EC11 p. 243). He accompanied Jacob on many outings, such as to Bella’s graduation party (EC17 p. 371) and to watch the Cullen fight practice (EC19 p. 429). Quil took orders from Sam, such as when he came in wolf form to Bella’s wedding to ensure Jacob kept in control (BD4 p. 67). Sam realized the close bond between Quil and Jacob, which is why he paired Jacob with Quil and Embry for their planned attack of the Cullens (BD10 p. 203) and why he sent Quil to appeal to Jacob to return to the pack after his defection (BD13 p. 256). The only reason Quil didn’t join Jacob’s new pack was because of his connection to Claire (BD13 p. 265); Quil was upset about the separation. Once Nessie was born and the threat of a war between the wolves and the Cullens was put to rest, Quil joined Jacob’s pack. (BD27 p. 526)

Early in the stories, Quil possessed a lot of chutzpah and considered himself a ladies’ man, as evident by his attempt to ask out a senior student’s steady girlfriend (NM6 p 146), his initial flirting with Bella (NM6 p 139), and his eagerness to hang out with older girls (NM9 p. 204). Quil was grounded for fighting at school and missed his opportunity to go to the movies with the teen girls from Forks High (NM9 p. 205). However, once he imprinted on Claire, his interest in skirt chasing evaporated. He loved playing with Claire, attended her third birthday party (and allowed himself to be dressed like a princess), and enjoyed romping at the beach with her. (BD8 p. 153). As Quil explained to Jacob, “I don’t notice girls anymore, you know. I don’t see their faces.” (BD8 p. 155).

Bella considered Quil to be funny (NM6 p. 146) and Jacob said Quil had a big mouth (NM7 p. 174). Quil joked with Sam after hearing the stories of the spirit warriors, teasing Sam about his black heart matching his black fur (EC11 p. 251). Quil brought enthusiasm to every event he was involved with, from fighting the newborn vampires (EC17 p. 381 / EC19 p. 429) to preparing to attack the Cullens (BD11 p. 207).

I know that we are all in love with Stephenie’s literary babies, but more importantly, Stephenie is the Mom to three boys.  Hats off to Stephenie and to all the Supermoms out out there, today is your day!

For personal experience, as a Mom, like Stephenie, who works outside the home (note I didn’t say working mom, because as any mom can tell you it’s work…period.), it’s hard to balance the "office work" and the "mom work" in a society the that is critical of you no matter what your choice. 

Kudos, to stay-at-home moms like Alphie, who has two children under six, and sacrifice all kinds of things to make sure they’re successful a their first dance recitals, put up with cranky after and before nap behavior, and run a household pretty much singlehandedly better than a corporate CEO with a fleet of paid support staff.

Moms of every type need to be cut a break, because let’s face it, without us none of you would be here! So, make your mom’s day and tell her "thanks", and if you really want to make it special tell her thanks next Sunday too.

Stephenie updated the news section of her site tonight with loads of pictures from prom – not just in Phoenix, but also from around the world.  And I do mean the WHOLE world.  It’s amazing what we can pull off as a fandom!  There is also some news on the movie, her tour schedule, and general misconseption on some of the ways she has been misunderstood recently.  Lots of great stuff to chew on.
