100 Monkeys & Jackson Rathbone Respond to Make A Wish

According to the Canadian site Contact Music 100 Monkeys, the band that Jackson Rathbone is a part of, is not just all about themselves and potential fame.

…when Rathbone heard that a Twilight fan is suffering from terminal cancer, he vowed to make her dreams come true.
He’s offered to let 14-year-old Dorothy hang out backstage with the band at Saturday’s (01Aug09) show in Dallas, Texas – and the star is convinced the selfless act is the least he could do.”

Let’s hear it for Jackson, Jerad, Ben, and Ben for thinking about more than themselves. They could easily have ignored the request, but they didn’t.

Twilight and Harry Potter Fandom Discussion Panel August 1

So if you happen to be 18 or older (sorry the hosting organization’s rules not ours) and are in the New York City area this weekend, why not attend an event at the New York public library. Best part the event is free!

Pel (Laura) is going to be on a discussion panel with Melissa Anelli from the Harry Potter fansite The Leaky Cauldron. Melissa is also the author of  Harry a History, that chronicles her experiences in the Harry Potter fandom. We’re going to be talking about fandom in the age of the Internet, how our sites started, our onlines experiences, the futures of our fandoms. Anyway, it should be a fun time.

See the press release below for details:

“The Children’s Literary Café at the new Children’s Center at 42nd Street is pleased to announce our event on Saturday, August 1st at 2:00 p.m. Come through the main doors to the information desk and ask for directions to the auditorium:

The fan phenomenon.  It’s about bringing your love of literature out into the open where you can celebrate it with a community of like-minded people.  Since the advent of the internet, fans have never been able to meet and gather with more ease.

The Literary Café provides free Advanced Readers galleys, a rotating series of talks with professionals in the field, and great conversation. This program is for adults only.”

Rachelle LeFevere’s Departure: The Media Chimes In

Now that the initial shock of yesterday’s announcement has worn off, various media outlets are giving their opinion on the casting change.  Both HitFix and Rotten Tomatoes, who were both on set, have their own questions:

Jen Amato of Rotten Tomatoes Tweets:

“Sadly (for Rachelle fans), the casting of Bryce Dallas Howard might be a smart move. More name recognition, more mainstream (vs. fan) auds.”

“Will Bryce Dallas Howard’s casting in Twilight: Eclipse bring in MORE male non-fans? BDH as an evil redhead vampire.”

“I think Bryce Howard is great in wide-eyed innocent roles; skeptical of her as a passionate, murderous vampire. Though she is a ginger.”

See Jen’s article here. Follow her on Twitter here.

Greg from HitFix compiled this article pulling in a variety of items:

“HitFix spoke to Lefevre on the set of “New Moon” in Vancouver at the beginning of May and not returning seemed out of the question if she had a conflict.  When asked about what she was doing in between the two films, Lefevre said, “I have a couple of things sort of in the mix right now that it looks like I’m going to get to do. One in between this and “Eclipse” but it’s a scheduling thing and so nothing is confirmed yet because you have to be available for the third movie.”

Get the HitFix article here.

Adding to the mix, it looks like Nikki Finke knew what was going down about 20 minutes ahead of everyone else.

Now finally for our part. We are Switzerland. In the same way we stayed neutral on the Solomon and Taylor recasting decisions, and the changing of the guard to Chris and David, we are staying neutral on this.  We aren’t starting any petitions or leading a boycott or anything like that.  It’s not that we don’t care about Rachelle or the movie, it’s just that we weren’t in the room to know exactly what went down and how, and realistically we’ll never know “the whole truth”.  However, like we said, that doesn’t mean we don’t still love Rachelle.  We think what we Tweeted last night summarizes what we feel right now, and if you are so inclined please retweet us or send a similar message to Rachelle on what no doubt is going to be an emotional day.

Twitter ovation for a classy actress. We wish you well @RachelleLefevre You will be missed. We still love you!”

Bryce Dallas Howard Replaces Rachelle LeFevere

This just in from Summit:

THE TWILIGHT SAGA ADDS ACTRESS
BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD TO FILM FRANCHISE

Actress Rachelle Lefevre Will Be Replaced By Howard In The Role Of Victoria

Los Angeles – July 28, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of “Victoria” in the studio’s upcoming production of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in TWILIGHT as well as the upcoming release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought “Victoria” to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”

Howard most recently starred in TERMINATOR SALVATION as Kate Connor and has been seen in SPIDER-MAN 3, LADY IN THE WATER, and THE VILLAGE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film AS YOU LIKE IT.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Xavier Samuel Interview on PROnetworks

Larry of PRONetworks, who is pretty much our go-to guy covering the indie film scene, interviewed Xavier Samuel before he suddenly became a household name. Larry writes:

“While many media outlets have focused interest on him by virtue of his sudden rise to fame as the newest member of the Twilight franchise, my perspective is slightly different.

I was fortunate to have actually met and interview Xavier Samuel and cover the premieres of two of his four previous feature films: Newcastle, at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2008, and 2:37, at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in January 2007. So I’ve been happy to be able to actually write a bit about who he is and what he’s done, in addition to reporting the news that he’s been Twilighted.”
