1) Breaking Dawn is in the editing phase. It it tentatively set for release Fall 2008. It could be later if we hit a snag in editing. Usually editing takes longer than a few months, but both I and my editors will be putting in lots of overtime to make this happen.

2) Midnight Sun is only half-written. It will not be coming out until a while after it’s finished. Don’t expect it anytime soon. I will let you know when the rough draft is finished, and then you can start asking when it is due out. I don’t foresee much chance to work on it until Breaking Dawn is completely finished.

3) Forever Dawn (the early, poorly written sequel to Twilight) is not the "steamy" version of Breaking Dawn; I don’t know how that rumor got started. Forever Dawn is not adult as in "XXX." It is adult as in "not written exclusively for a young adult audience, much like Pride and Prejudice or Gone With the Wind." There is no steam in Forever Dawn that is not also in Breaking Dawn, so please stop begging me for the "ooh la la" version. It does not exist. I may put some small excerpts of Forever Dawn on my website after Breaking Dawn comes out, but then again, maybe not. It’s not that great. All the best stuff is in Breaking Dawn.

New topic: the Twilight movie

I do not have any casting updates. I haven’t heard anything since the Robert Pattinson announcement. I’m waiting on the same pins and needles you all are. When I get home from vacation, I’ll see if I can get some news.

4) In regards to the question, "Is Breaking Dawn the last book in the Twilight Saga?" The answer is, "I don’t know." It’s the last one for a while, at least. Of course there will be Midnight Sun, but that’s covering old material. I’m not sure if I will go forward with the Twilight characters–I’m a little burned out right now. Ask me again in two years.

5) "When are you going to put the first chapter of Breaking Dawn on your website?" I have no idea when or if I will get permission to post that. It may be in the special edition of Eclipse that will come out in June or July. It may never appear until BD is on the shelves.

6) "What does the cover of BD look like?" I don’t know (are you sensing a theme here?). We have not decided on a cover yet–in fact, we are in a very early stage of the process. If we get a cover developed in time, it will probably be released with the Eclipse special edition the way the Eclipse cover was put out with the New Moon special edition. I’ve had a few people ask if images they’ve seen are the BD cover, and I can tell you absolutely that they are NOT.

It’s been no secret that one of the shooting locations for the Twilight movie would be the state of Oregon.  The Oregon Film and Video Office has put out an "all crafts call". In other words they are looking for location personnel to staff out the shoot.  This means they are looking for camera people, and possibly extras among other things.

There will be two readings during the events – Stephenie will do a reading in English and there will be an actress reading in German. There will also be time for Q&A (there will be a translator).

The German version of the Lexicon and Carlsen (the German publisher) are both announcing that Stephenie will be visiting Germany between February 28 and March 6, 2008. Below is the schedule (yes it is in German).

They have announced that she will be signing and reading. We do not have confirmation on how that will happen whether Stephenie will read in English and there will be simulcasting in German. We will provide more details when we have them.

We have stated the following a few times in the past and now I feel it necessary to state it in regards to the upcoming movie. We are a non-spoiler site. Unless something is released officially by Stephenie Meyer or Summit Films as a teaser/preview we don’t run it. 

For those of you who hooked into Twilight early on, remember the chaos that broke out when one person who had an arc posted huge spoilers on MySpace? They put out a bunch of spoilery, out-of-context comments that really ruined the reading experience for many people who happened to stumble on it not knowing what was on that posting. It also created chaos because no one could understand how New Moon could be any good "since Edward won’t be there."  In the end all the drama was ridiculous because it’s a book we love.  Everything in context made sense.

Personally, I have been trying to stay spoiler free in regards to the movie, so I can judge it as a completed product: actors, effects, location.  This brings me to my next point, there are preliminary script sides that are out there. We have no way of knowing if they will be in their current form in the final film. There is also supposedly a complete script out there and supposedly a girl reading it on an online video site. Again we have  no way of knowing if this script will actually be the final one being shot. In fact it is highly likely, should it prove to be legit, that changes will take place as this is typical. There are always changes in script as the movie begins. Listen to the commentary on DVD’s and you will hear about changes to script that the actors get on the day they are to shoot a scene.

Next, any completed script material that is legit is the property of Summit Entertaintment. To distribute such material without the authorization of Summit Entertainment is illegal. It is theft and a prosecutable offense.  I would highly suggest that if anyone possess such material that you give it back, and don’t post that you have it online.  It’s one thing to have found audition sides and to discuss them. The company intends them for public consumption ( granted to entertainment professionals).   Shooting script  is not intended for the public.  It is the intellectual property of the company and offering it, or giving quotes from it isn’t fair not to mention illegal.

What does all this mean here?  If you post script spoilers you will be banned. If you want to discuss them on other sites that allow it, no problem, but you can’t do it here.

It seems that TMZ managed to tackle Robert Pattinson out on the town with his girlfriend the other night. If you listen to the video, you can just about make out that when asked what his next project is, he responds "Twilight".

Just FYI, the video will take forever to load because it’s an AOL sponsored video site.

I’ve just had an e-mail from Stephenie’s publicist, Elizabeth, that the sale date previously listed has been or will be removed and changed.  As soon as she has any further information, she will let me know and I will pass it on to you!

I heard fro Stephenie today and she had a little extra to add about our werewolf geneology that was posted yesterday.  I thought I would share it with everyone and eventually add it to the PC’s.  We will update the chart when we get a chance!  Thanks Stephenie!!

"Harry is descended from Ephriam Black on his mother’s side, Sue comes from the Uley line on her mother’s side.  There are a lot of unnamed siblings floating around in these family lines that make all the ties work.  For example, Levi had a brother who was too young to make the wolf change the last time the Cullens were around, and two sisters who were unaffected.  Levi’s second oldest sister is Sue’s mom’s mother.  It’s a small tribe that was relatively isolated 75 years ago, so everybody is related if you go back far enough."

Becoming a Werewolf

The history of the Quileute tribe and their connection things beyond the human is documented in ‘Eclipse’ chapter 11. We are told that “there has always been magic in our blood” and that they were “spirit warriors” before they became “shape-shifting” people. The tale of Taha Aki links the tribe for the first time with the wolf, as his spirit shared the body of the animal. This seems to have been the beginning of the possibility of being beyond both simple man and simple wolf.

The description of Taha Aki matches what Bella discovers about Jacob and the other werewolves. “He led the tribe for many years, for he did not age” (EC11) and the genetic passing on of the ability to transform to his sons “after they had reached the age of manhood.” It is important to note, that just as Jacob and his friends are different, the wolves in the story are different too, “because they were spirit wolves and reflected the man they were inside.” (EC11)

If no vampires are near then “the descendants of Taha Aki no longer became wolves when they reached manhood”. If there are one of two vampires, then “the pack stayed small.” (EC11) It is noticeable that when the number of vampires increase with Victoria’s army, then “the pack has grown” (EC18) so that they are able to fight.

There is a direct connection between the vampires and the wolves, although Bella believes that “The Cullens had no idea… They didn’t know that coming here would change you.” (EC5) but Jacob is certain: “Bella, honey, we only protect people from one thing—our one enemy.  It’s the reason we exist—because they do.” (NM13) If vampires were not present, then there are no need for werewolves to protect the tribe.

To change into a werewolf, it is vital to be a direct descendant of Taha Aki. People had always believed that it was a direct male descendant, but this is proven to be untrue when Leah Clearwater becomes one of the pack. (EC19) There is no escape from this: “What I am was born in me. It’s part of who I am, who my family is, who we all are as a tribe.” (EC4) It is not an option but something that will happen to a select number of people at the age of maturity: “It’s in my blood on both sides.  I never had a chance.  Like Quil doesn’t have a chance.” (NM15) Once a werewolf, there is no turning back. As Jacob bleakly jokes, ““No.  I’m in this for life.  A life sentence.” (NM12)

There is “no exact age” (NM15) that someone becomes a werewolf. Jacob explains that “Sometimes, if you get really upset or something, that can trigger it early” (NM15) and that you need to be able to control your feelings and anger to be able to phase back again. With Sam, “it took him two weeks to calm down enough to change back” because no one had anticipated it would happen to him and “he thought he’d gone insane” as a result. (EC5)

It is slightly unclear as to how long the initial transformation takes, but there are suggestions that it’s around a week. “Embry missed a week of school” (NM7) and Bella was going to give it “a week before she started getting pushy” (NM10) about Jake being ill. The high body heat is one of the symptoms: “Woah, Jake – you’re burning up.” (NM9) and there is some suggestion of pain with the “every part of me hurts” (NM9) although Stephenie Meyer points out that this is more “disorientating and mentally uncomfortable” (PC11) than physical pain.

The pack has one leader; an alpha male. In Bella’s time, this should be Jake because of his lineage, but he explains: “I didn’t want to be some legendary chief. I didn’t want to be part of a pack of werewolves, let alone their leader. I wouldn’t take it when Sam offered.” (EC21) Sam Uley leads them instead. The alpha does control the pack: “When he tells us to do something, or not to do something—when he really means it, well, we can’t just ignore him.” (NM14)
