Movies.Com: Comic Con History and Advice

Check out Laura’s latest Movies.com column.

“Get out those folding chairs, clean out that cooler, and bring plenty of sunscreen. After a year’s hiatus, The Twilight Saga will be back at Comic-Con. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 panel will be in the 6,500-seat Hall H at 11:15am a week from today on July 21st. This means fans will start camping out the night before in the plaza that abuts Hall H.

So what exactly is in store for fans this year? So far, Summit Entertainment is pretty tight-lipped, but going on past experience, several things are likely. The top items to look for are footage, a fan event, and the trio, A.K.A Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart.

When it comes to footage, director Bill Condon has some pretty big shoes to fill. Two years ago Chris Wietz, the director of The Twilight Saga: New Moon,  wowed the audience with two clips. The first was the motorbike scene where Taylor Lautner revealed his eight-pack abs, and Kristen Stewart uttered the iconic line, “You’re sort of beautiful.”  The second scene was the race to Volterra in the Porsche featuring Bella running through streets packed with red-cloaked revelers as she tried to beat the clock to save Edward.”

Comic Con Camping Advice

When you want advice you go to the experts. It’s probably safe to say that Alison from Twifans has taken camping out for Twilight events to an art form. She has some very practical advice for old timers and newbies:

“1.  Hotel– You should have got this long ago but if you haven’t start looking in the surrounding areas like the harbor or Coronado.  Even if you have to stay 10-15 minutes away to get a good priced deal, it’s worth it.

2.  Line buddies are essential for a good experience in line. Line buddies can be the people in your group or friends you make on either side of you in line.  Line etiquette:  Make sure to let everyone around you know how many friends are in your group and if it’s more than just a few, people may not be happy.  Best bet is to all go at the same time.  Security will get very strict about adding additional friends to the line.

Being comfortable in line is different to everyone.  Some people bring a chair and survive with a chair forever and others want luxury hotel like digs.  Whether you want to pack the whole car or fly in with just the necessities, we have some suggestions and plans for how to build your outdoor line living room.”

Comic Con Sunday Schedule Is Now Out

Comic Con now has all scheduling of panels out. There still can be some tweaking, but in general it’s all out there. There is everything from actor appearance to fanfiction panels.

TwiExaminer has a updated rundown:

“This year’s Comic-Con event in San Diego promises to host a lot of interesting parcels for Twilight fans, not the least of which will be exclusive new footage from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. There’ll be Twilight stars present for the Breaking Dawn – Part 1 panel on Thursday, but there’ll also be a few other panels of interest throughout the rest of the convention.

So, to keep it organized, here’s a run-down of all of the Twilight-related events at Comic-Con, including who’ll be there, what they’ll be supporting, when the various panels and presentations take place, and where each is located.”

See it on TwiExaminer (including new info on Joe Anderson who plays Alistair)

Meet Jack Morrissey: Bill Condon’s Partner With Breaking Dawn Goodies

Back when Laura went to Los Angeles to see the MTV movie awards, she met Jack Morrissey.  Jack is Bill Condon’s partner. Laura sat in between him and Erik Odom during the MTV awards show and the two of them had her laughing the whole time. they are both great guys, very cool, genuine and funny people.

Jack just started a Twitter ( @JackMorrissey ) account and he’ll be giving us some Breaking Dawn tidbits from time to time. Nothing too spoilery, all fun stuff.

So far he’s tweeted out a picture of Bill Condon’s and his dog (named Pigpen). He’s also put up a collection of the Twilight Saga books that they still have. (They had them all but gave away the early ones to an uber fan). And my personal favorite, the picture of Bill Condon’s Breaking Dawn clapperboard!

Also, Jack just did a podcast (called smodcast) with Kevin Smith (yes, THAT Kevin Smith). During the end of the podcast they talk Breaking Dawn and Comic Con and Jack defends the TwiHards right to be at Comic Con and states that by no means did TwiHards ruin anyone’s Comic Con experience in past years despite some moaning from traditionalists. (WARNING: please beware that the language is R-Rated as is typical with Kevin Smith’s shows)

Comic Con Schedules 2011: Breaking Dawn, Kellan Lutz, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart

Comic Con 2011 has now released their Thursday through Saturday schedules. Granted they are subject to change, and an actor might have to suddenly bow out if their filming schedule changes or have to do ADR work. But here is what we have so far. Kristen Stewart, Kellan Lutz, and Taylor Lautner will all be there to support other projects as well as Breaking Dawn.

Thursday

“11:15-12:15 The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1— Summit Entertainment presents a sneak peek at the highly anticipated next chapter of The Twilight Saga. This is a must see for fans interested in the story’s final chapters. You’ll see exclusive footage from The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 and be treated to a filmmaker and cast Q&A session providing details on the first half of the epic two-part finale. Hall H ”

Abduction Panel and signing official info via the Lionsgate studio TBA. Below is what we have from The Hollywood Reporter (I’d give them a 90% accuracy rate going on past Twilight connected experience):

“The news you’ve all been waiting for: Taylor Lautner is going to Comic-Con.

Sure, we all suspected he was going to be part of the Twilight: Breaking Dawn panel but Lautner will also be on hand to promote his action thriller Abduction. He will be at the Lionsgate booth (#3729 for those of you trying to map out the San Diego Convention Center floor) for a signing Thursday, July 21.”

At this time we don’t know if the signing with Taylor will come before or after the Breaking Dawn Panel. If we had to go with our gut instinct, we’d probably bet on after because there will likely be a press conference that he is involved in running before.

Thursday Comic Con Schedule Released: Breaking Dawn Panel Time Announced

According to the newly released Comic Con Schedule:

“11:15-12:15 The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1— Summit Entertainment presents a sneak peek at the highly anticipated next chapter of The Twilight Saga. This is a must see for fans interested in the story’s final chapters. You’ll see exclusive footage from The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1 and be treated to a filmmaker and cast Q&A session providing details on the first half of the epic two-part finale. Hall H ”

Taylor Lautner will be around the same day to promote Abduction. According to THR:

“The news you’ve all been waiting for: Taylor Lautner is going to Comic-Con.

Sure, we all suspected he was going to be part of the Twilight: Breaking Dawn panel but Lautner will also be on hand to promote his action thriller Abduction. He will be at the Lionsgate booth (#3729 for those of you trying to map out the San Diego Convention Center floor) for a signing Thursday, July 21.”

Other good news regarding Hall H.

Hall H seats 6,000 people. As of now, the items that are following Breaking Dawn into Hall H aren’t exactly what we would think will draw the megacrowds.  They’ll be popular, just not sure it’s the same level of “OMG! It’s A Swarm” popular.  Back when New Moon was at Comic Con, it was the second panel of the day behind a much anticipated appearance by Johnny Depp and then followed by the Avatar panel.  Needless to say there were tons of people camping out for the other events going on in Hall H, and they were all mixed in with the Twilight crowd. I’m not so sure there is going to be much camping other than Twilight camping, especially since all the press this year is talking how the big studios aren’t bring mega projects(like Batman, Superman, Hunger Games) to Comic Con this year as much as in the past.

The Lexicon will be there all week.

Laura and Jen (Pel and Be My Escape) from the Lexicon will be there all week,  along with our friend Kallie from Twilight Series Theories, getting coverage on Twilight and Twilight related projects.

Who Is Attending Comic Con 2011 From Twilight?

So far Summit hasn’t given out their official list yet. If we were betting people (and we are) we’d lay odds on Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Bill Condon. The trio and the director have pretty much been a pattern since the first Comic Con appearance. After that it depends on who has a free schedule, who is in town, etc.

We already know that two Twilight actors are going to be there promoting other projects:

Taylor Lautner will be there to promote Abduction.

Kellan Lutz will be there to promote The Immortals (info from Immortals press release):

DATE: Saturday, July 23
1:00pm – 2:00pm: Comic-Con Panel in Hall H
2:30pm – 3:30pm: Official autograph signing at the Convention Center

GUESTS: Henry Cavill, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, Stephen Dorff, Freida Pinto, Mickey Rourke, and producers Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari”

Comic Con 2011 Camping For Twi Hards

This from Summit:

“THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 is the first scheduled Comic-Con panel on Thursday, July 21!

Please let all of your readers know, and make sure to tell them to start camping on Wednesday to guarantee their seats inside of Hall H!

More info to come as the date approaches…”

For those of you who have tickets (they are sold out) and have never done Comic Con before, Hall H is the big hall at Comic Con. The camping area is the far South end of the convention center where there is a large plaza. Fans sleep out to get a spot in Hall H (roughly holds 6,000 people). In our favor, Breaking Dawn is on Thursday, not considered a big day like Friday and Saturday. However whatever is in Hall H that day will all be vying for seats. The way it works is first come first serve to the seats. So camping out gives you a better shot at getting one, because people can sit in Hall H all day waiting for whatever the big show they want. Depending on how popular whatever is scheduled after the Twilight panel is will determine how intense that camp out crowd is.

Fans interested in the story’s final chapters will be shown exclusive footage from THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 and be treated to a filmmaker and cast Q&A session providing details on the first half of the epic two part finale, in theatres November 18, 2011.

New York Times Confirms Breaking Dawn at Comic Con

Wild surprise here we know, but the New York Times dropped this tidbit:

“Among smaller studios, Lionsgate, which won strong results last year for “The Expendables,” will be back; and Summit Entertainment will stage a panel for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1.”

See more on the New York Times.

The bigger question is which date will they be there? Our money is on Thursday because that is what they have done the last two times that they were there.
