The Lexicon Position

We want to share with our readers a statement that we gave to a media outlet earlier tonight that requested permission to quote the comments on our site and for us to give them a statement. We don’t know if ultimately we will or will not be quoted in the article, but thought it best to put it all out there right now.

“Our fan comments and blog stories are a matter of public record. You may quote them within the boundaries of Fair Use laws with citation.

As for our opinion, casting and recasting is always something we have stayed neutral on whether is was Taylor Lautner and Solomon Trimble being recast, or Catherine Hardwicke being rehired.

It’s not that we don’t have feelings for Rachelle. We certainly enjoyed her performance. She’s a classy lady who gives back to fans and is generous to charity. However since we don’t know what was in contracts, what was said at meetings, what verbal understandings were or were not reached, etc. we feel most comfortable staying out of it, reporting the facts as given to us from both sides, and letting the fans judge for themselves.”

We say this with the complete knowledge that some fans are fine with this stance, some are not, but that’s our approach and we are comfortable with it. In the end, we have to do what we subjectively feel is the appropriate thing for us to do.

If either side responds again, we will run their uneditorialized statement in its entirety as we have been doing.

Statement From Summit 7/29/09:regarding Rachelle

We just received the following statement from Summit Entertainment:

We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre’s recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio.  Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts.

Ms. Lefevre’s representatives were advised as early as April that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE was expected to start shooting in early August.

If Ms. Lefevre was, as she describes “passionate,” about being part of THE TWILIGHT SAGA, we feel that she and her representatives would have included us in her decision to work on another film that would conflict with the shooting schedule of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to BARNEY’S VERSION, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June.  Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.

Furthermore Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE’s principal photography.  This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.

Contrary to Ms. Lefevre’s statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap.  It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.

The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to the other project – which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment – makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

Contact Information

We have been asked by people how to contact Summit Entertainment. Their address is a matter of public record:

Summit Entertainment

It’s our personal opinion that actual mail vs. email makes more of an impact. It’s easy to discard email with a simple click whereas it’s difficult to ignore the presence of  physical mail, especially in volumes.

Internet petitions, while well intentioned, don’t work because it’s too easy to fake signatures, and for that reason management teams tend to not take them seriously.

We are currently tracking down a contact address for Rachelle that is for fans. Until we get it, you can reach her at her Twitter.

Here is Rachelle’s fanmail address(via Twilight Series Theories). Again though Tweeting is nice, you are limited to 140 characters. An actual card or letter we believe would have more of an impact.

Rachelle Lefevre Speaks

This just in from Access Hollywood who got an exclusive interview with Rachelle:

“I was fully committed to the ‘Twilight’ saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria,” Rachelle continued, explaining the turn of events that led to the casting change. “I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules. My commitment to ‘Barney’s Version’ is only ten days. Summit picked up my option for ‘Eclipse.’ Although the production schedule for ‘Eclipse’ is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for ‘Eclipse,’ never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10 day overlap. I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part.”

Xavier Samuel To Appear At Film Festival

Xavier Samuel is going to be appearing at the Melbourne Film Festival on Thursday where his horror film, the Loved Ones, is appearing. According to The West Australian:

“The movie, which is described as Pretty in Pink meets Misery, has its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival on Thursday and has also been selected for the Toronto Film Festival. It is Samuel’s first foray into horror, a genre he isn’t a huge fan of usually.

I can’t really sit through them often. I’ll let you know how I go on Thursday – you might see someone just run out distressed.”

Well considering the way Riley meets his end in Eclipse, it looks like this is merely on-the-job training! Read the rest on the Western Australian.

Bloody Disgusting has an article on the film; however, please keep in mind that it’s a horror flim and the name of the site is Bloody Disgusting (so if that is not your thing, you havbe been warned).

Welcome to Twitter Edi Gathegi

Edi Gathegi is the latest Twilight actor to join Twitter. His account name is iamedigathegi. Show Edi some love by following him!

There’s not a ton of content up yet, but we are sure that will change soon, because one thing that Edi isn’t, is shy!

A big TY to Amanda Bell of the Twilight Examiner for tracking this one down and verifying it was a legit account via Edi’s management.

100 Monkeys & Jackson Rathbone Respond to Make A Wish

According to the Canadian site Contact Music 100 Monkeys, the band that Jackson Rathbone is a part of, is not just all about themselves and potential fame.

…when Rathbone heard that a Twilight fan is suffering from terminal cancer, he vowed to make her dreams come true.
He’s offered to let 14-year-old Dorothy hang out backstage with the band at Saturday’s (01Aug09) show in Dallas, Texas – and the star is convinced the selfless act is the least he could do.”

Let’s hear it for Jackson, Jerad, Ben, and Ben for thinking about more than themselves. They could easily have ignored the request, but they didn’t.

Rachelle LeFevere’s Departure: The Media Chimes In

Now that the initial shock of yesterday’s announcement has worn off, various media outlets are giving their opinion on the casting change.  Both HitFix and Rotten Tomatoes, who were both on set, have their own questions:

Jen Amato of Rotten Tomatoes Tweets:

“Sadly (for Rachelle fans), the casting of Bryce Dallas Howard might be a smart move. More name recognition, more mainstream (vs. fan) auds.”

“Will Bryce Dallas Howard’s casting in Twilight: Eclipse bring in MORE male non-fans? BDH as an evil redhead vampire.”

“I think Bryce Howard is great in wide-eyed innocent roles; skeptical of her as a passionate, murderous vampire. Though she is a ginger.”

See Jen’s article here. Follow her on Twitter here.

Greg from HitFix compiled this article pulling in a variety of items:

“HitFix spoke to Lefevre on the set of “New Moon” in Vancouver at the beginning of May and not returning seemed out of the question if she had a conflict.  When asked about what she was doing in between the two films, Lefevre said, “I have a couple of things sort of in the mix right now that it looks like I’m going to get to do. One in between this and “Eclipse” but it’s a scheduling thing and so nothing is confirmed yet because you have to be available for the third movie.”

Get the HitFix article here.

Adding to the mix, it looks like Nikki Finke knew what was going down about 20 minutes ahead of everyone else.

Now finally for our part. We are Switzerland. In the same way we stayed neutral on the Solomon and Taylor recasting decisions, and the changing of the guard to Chris and David, we are staying neutral on this.  We aren’t starting any petitions or leading a boycott or anything like that.  It’s not that we don’t care about Rachelle or the movie, it’s just that we weren’t in the room to know exactly what went down and how, and realistically we’ll never know “the whole truth”.  However, like we said, that doesn’t mean we don’t still love Rachelle.  We think what we Tweeted last night summarizes what we feel right now, and if you are so inclined please retweet us or send a similar message to Rachelle on what no doubt is going to be an emotional day.

Twitter ovation for a classy actress. We wish you well @RachelleLefevre You will be missed. We still love you!”

Bryce Dallas Howard Replaces Rachelle LeFevere

This just in from Summit:

THE TWILIGHT SAGA ADDS ACTRESS
BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD TO FILM FRANCHISE

Actress Rachelle Lefevre Will Be Replaced By Howard In The Role Of Victoria

Los Angeles – July 28, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of “Victoria” in the studio’s upcoming production of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in TWILIGHT as well as the upcoming release of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” said Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. “Rachelle brought “Victoria” to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”

Howard most recently starred in TERMINATOR SALVATION as Kate Connor and has been seen in SPIDER-MAN 3, LADY IN THE WATER, and THE VILLAGE. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film AS YOU LIKE IT.

In THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.
