Forks Goes International

According to the Puget Sound Business Journal the tourists who are showing up in Forks are by no means limited to Americans and Canadians. The local information center has had to hire more staffers because of the upswing in traffic. Usually, things die down after the fall—not this year.

Over the past month large numbers of college students on spring break have been making a Pacific Northwest road trip with stops in Portland, La Push, and Forks. Now it seems that there is an influx of tourists from the UK, Germany, and Japan, and the Seattle tourism satellite branches are doing everything in their power to keep attracting them.

“The Seattle-based Japanese language website Junglecity.com created an online guide to Forks and “Twilight” sites in early April. By mid-month, the feature had received 42,353 hits. Junglecity owner Takumi Ono said Japanese movie fans have become particularly interested in teen love flicks in the past few years, and “Twilight” plays right into that.”

On the Forks Forum, the website of the local Forks paper, they describe a recent event that the town held to encourage this tourism:

“Twilight was the main topic for representatives of tour companies with ties to Japan who visited Forks and LaPush on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Olympic Peninsula Visitor Bureau Executive Director Diane Schostak of Forks served as a guide for the group. Companies represented at the familiarization visit to the Forks Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Center in Forks included the Seattle offices of Azumano International and H.I.S. Tours USA. Tomo Hoku Hellman of Azumano International said the “Twilight” movie is scheduled to open in Japan on April 1, and the companies expect growing interest in visits to the West End by Japanese Twilight fans.”

Vancouver or Bust

According to the Vancouver Sun there are fans sparing no expense to get to Vancouver in the hopes of a glimpse of the Twilight stars.

“But some people just aren’t satisfied to stay home and wait for the next pictures to come online, so when LeAnne Autry’s husband Chad won a pair of free airline tickets in a golf tournament he suggested she hop a flight to Vancouver.

LeAnne Autry and her sister Sara Bennett will land in Vancouver Friday and begin stalking the lanes of Yaletown is search of their favourite movie star, Robert Pattinson known to fans as RPattz, who plays the romantic lead Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies.”

InStyle’s Twilight Hair Breakdown

InStyle has got teh scoop on all the products and techniques used to transform the Twilgiht cast’s hair.

“The first step in getting Pattinson and Stewart to resemble their characters Edward and Bella was a hair transformation. “Both of their hair colors were from a previous film and needed to be corrected for their Twilight roles,” says Mary Ann Valdes, the movie’s department head hairstylist. To get the right shade, she had the actors try on wigs and when the color was decided on, she sent them to Beverly Hills salon owner Stuart Gavert (with the help of co-colorist Jonathan Castellanos) take care of the coloring.”

Rumor Control

Here’s the latest swarming the Internet:

  • Robert Pattinson injured himself on set. Truish. He did it last year during Twilight. For some odd reason the “Rob pulled a groin muscle” “Rob injured his bum”…stories are all reappearing as if it just happened. So, no fear Rob does not injure himself repetitively as does Bella.
  • Martin Sheen is Aro. False. Michael Sheen is Aro, there is continent and about a 20+ years age difference there folks.
  • “Fill in the blank of any band” is officially on the New Moon soundtrack. False. Nothing has been decided about who is on the soundtrack, and a supposed note from Chris Weitz claiming otherwise is a left over April Fools joke destined to become urban legend.
  • OMG! Billly Burke, Gil Birmingham, Edi Gathegi, Rachelle LeFevere and the human kids all got cut from the movie. False. No, they are in the movie, they just weren’t on the recent press release from Summit.
  • Twilight fans are being recruited into a crazy religious cult called Cullenism. False This is what happens when it’s a slow news week and entertainment news sites start grasping at straws and half truths to cobble together an article with the word ‘Twilight” in it. It’s a joke people, a tongue-in-cheek thread that has been on our forum and others for at least two years. A quick glance and it’s obvious they are not serious.
