Twilight Saga: Dollars and Common Sense

It’s no secret that there’s a big cash pay-out when it comes to Twilight. Everyone from Hot Topic, to Borders, to Wal-mart is cashing in.

According to marketing shift:

“Since the premier episode of Trueblood and the premier of Twilight, vampires have replaced pirates as the “in” movie or TV characters.”

Now according to Wales Online, Michael Sheen is getting a 5 million pound payout. That’s roughly around 9 million American dollars.

We are wondering how true that is as actors’ contracts are usually very hush-hush, Rob is currently driving what could politely be termed a “fixer-upper” car, and he reportedly scoffed to the BBC about the reported figure that he is receiving for New Moon stating:

“I read some gossip thing saying, because I looked really uncomfortable in a paparazzi photo or something, they’re like, ‘He should get used to it. That’s the price to pay if you’re getting $12m (£8.1m) a movie’. If I’m getting paid $12m a movie I’d walk around naked. That’s all nonsense. I don’t know who makes that stuff up. Even the price for the first one was nonsense.”

David Slade to Direct Eclipse

DAVID SLADE TO DIRECT SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT’S

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE

Los Angeles, CA April 22, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production.

Meyer stated, “I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ECLIPSE. He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I’m so happy that ECLIPSE will be carrying on with that tradition.”

Feig said, “Stephenie Meyer’s ECLIPSE is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the ECLIPSE he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010.”

Filmmaker Slade came to prominence as a director for his work on 2006’s engrossing film HARD CANDY starring Academy Award® Nominated actress Ellen Page as well as directing 2007’s genre hit 30 DAYS OF NIGHT which opened to number one at the box office its first weekend of release.

In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Slade is represented by William Morris Agency.

Taylor Lautner’s People Page Needs Your vote!

OK, not that we have anything against Dustin Milligan and Matt Dallas, but at the moment(as I am writing this), they are in the lead over Taylor Lautner to get their own page on People Magazine. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart already have their own pages. So if you want Taylor to get his own, get over there and vote, NOW! The voting ends April 27th!

Jackson Rathbone in Nylon Magazine

Jackson Rathbone is featured in Nylon, the same magazine that did the Kristen Stewart feature on Runaways. You can tell in the picture how the sides of his head have been shaved for his role in The Last Airbender.

“When asked about working with his Twilight castmates, he praises their talent, then adds, “Kristen and Rob are both very musically inclined, so we would have jam sessions.  It was like the Cullen Family Band.”

Reality TV hits Santa Monica

According to ET, the Hollywood reporter got the scoop on a new reality TV show. The Fred Segal outlet store that is frequently visited by tons of young Hollywood’s up-and-comings, including Taylor Lautner, is going to have it’s own reality TV show.

“The Bravo show will follow the daily drama that occurs at the retail outlet’s Santa Monica location, filming the lives of those who work and shop at the store…Fred Segal is a legendary retail haven synonymous with high fashion and style, and the fashionistas who work, shop and gossip at the store promise to have arresting, entertaining, colorful personalities and lives.”

Given how much Taylor has grown, no wonder he needs new clothes!

David Slade To Direct Eclipse?

Nikki Finke, noted Hollywood insider who gets the story right far more often than wrong, has a source stating that David Slade of Hard Candy, 30 Days Of Night fame is being looked at to direct Eclipse. Nikki previously broke the news of Juan Antonio Bayora being in the running, which lead to a series of online verbal volleys between her and Summit executive Eric Feig.

According to Nikki:

I understand he’s met with author Stephenie Meyer and Summit prez of production Erik Feig. But let me be clear: there’s no deal yet.”
