Sweet Deals at CafePress!

CafePress has a new Twitter page just for Twilight fans – http://twitter.com/twilightees . They will be posting t-shirts of the day, special deals for Twilight fans, doing give-aways, and sharing Twilight news.  According to CafePress, “For the next week or so, Twilightees will be doing a “registration drive” – to giveaway a free t-shirt (of choice) for every 50 new followers.” So, if you want a shot at a free Twilight themed shirt, follow them on Twitter, and the winner could be you.

New Moon Companion Debuts At Number 1

At probably the utter surprise of no one, The Twilight Saga: New Moon Illustrated Movie Companion debuted in the number one position on the New York Times bestseller list in its first week of eligibility. The book appears in the Paperback Advice category. Yes, we know that sounds awfully weird, but it’s the New York Times’ list and they like it that way.

The Twilight Saga novels have been solidly placing on the best seller lists since the novel New Moon was released back in 2006, consistently ranking in the top five from that point to today. All the the novels in the Twilight Saga are currently in the Series Book category in the children’s division. The New York Times has no subdivision for YA books.  Also, once there are three or more books in a series they move from being in the chapter books division to the series division. The Twilight Saga novels are currently in the number 1 position in the series category. The Host is currently ranked 30th in the Hardcover Fiction category.

On the USA TODAY chart, the New Moon Companion is in the number 6 position. Keep in mind that on their chart, they lump all books into one category. So, that’s number 6 of everything that’s out there!  The book is not eligible for the Publishers Weekly or Wall Street Journal lists since those lists don’t have a category that represents books such as The Twilight Saga: New Moon Illustrated Movie Companion.

Mark Cotta Vaz is the author of the companion. He was also the author of last year’s successful Twilight Companion. Last year we were able to interview Mark about his creative process in writing companion books:

“You have done a lot of movie and TV based companion guides to series such as Lost, Star Wars, and Spiderman that have met with acclaim from notoriously picky fans. That’s a pretty impressive track record since many companion books don’t resonate with fans. What do you think are the most important three things to have a movie guide be successful with fans?

First, a little empathy goes a long way, and anyone writing about a beloved television or film series has to emotionally and spiritually connect with the subject. If you hate blockbuster movies, if you dislike the Star Wars or James Bond movies or whatever, you’re not going to be true to the fans of those films.

Second, it’s a sin to be boring. Behind-the-scenes books involve a lot of exposition, but the key is producing a lively narrative that is not only informative, but captures the inherent excitement of the material.

Third, it’s fun to use the main material as a springboard to bring in corollary subjects that expand upon and enrich the reading experience. Ultimately, the end result will take readers on a journey to the heart of what makes the particular subject popular and powerful, providing a fresh perspective and appreciation of the material.”

Twilight Wins at Spike’s Scream Awards

The annual Scream Awards were taped at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles over the weekend. They are scheduled to air on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 27 from 10:00 P.M. ET/PT. (Warning all links this article lead to results spoilers.)

Taylor Lautner was on hand to pick up some of Twilight’s awards, and to present a clip.

Initially there was a lot of talk about never seen before movie footage being revealed; however, going by the Tweets of Robsten Lovers who were there on the red carpet and in the actual awards show nothing new as far as actual movie footage was revealed. On the other hand, there were new behind the scenes type clips with carious cast members speaking.

100 Monkeys on the Eclipse Soundtrack?

MTV caught up with Jackson Rathbone on the set of the indie film, The Girlfriend, and asked him about playing on the Eclipse soundtrack:

“It’s been talked about, but it’s one of those things,” Rathbone said when asked if he had been approached to have songs on the previous soundtracks. “We’re going to be kind of giving some of our songs off of our upcoming album for them to see if they want to put on ‘Eclipse.’ ”

It would be a pretty big deal for Jackson and the band if they made it onto the soundtrack.  100 Monkeys members are heavily involved in the Girfriend soundtrack, not to mention individual film projects like Jackson’s The Last Airbender.

New Moon By The Numbers

MTV talked to Fandango about the ticket buying phenomena that is The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Aside from just pure raw data about the number of seats sold, Fandango has been using a questionnaire for purchasers and shares their analysis with MTV. Here are just a few factoids:

“Obviously, ‘Twilight’ had a huge following of book readers before the first movie was released, but these results might indicate that the first movie broadened the ‘Twilight’ following and expanded its audience — and that many moviegoers started reading the books after seeing the movie.”

“68 percent of the ticket-buyers weren’t aware of the “Twilight” franchise until the first film was released in November 2008. So, in essence, only 32 percent of the fans who have bought “New Moon” tickets have been “Twilight” fans for longer than 12 months.”

“Sports-betting Web site Bookmaker.com has asked its odds-makers to determine how much “New Moon” will make in its opening weekend; 40 percent believe the film will take in somewhere between $66 million and $80 million. That total would put it on track to equal or exceed the receipts of the first film.”

There’s a whole list of other stats over on MTV.  The whole piece is, in our opinion, one of the better articles MTV has written on Twilight. It’s definitely worth a read.

Now we have to say we really agree with the article based on our very unscientific observations of who comments on our blog and forums and who we’ve seen at Twilight conventions run by three different companies this year where our staff was on the panels. We can’t count the number of people who only got into Twilight at like Christmas 2008. So often we’d meet people and have to explain that Stephenie had outtakes on her website, or they’d ask what is Midnight Sun.

The other thing about those new fans that is really cool is they all have that slightly obsessed, giddy, “I just have to share this with someone” thing that those of us who got into Twilight earlier all went through. For us it was kind of like being a high school senior and looking at a freshman who reminded us of ourselves a few years ago. It’s so cool just to see that raw enthusiasm out of people ranging from 10 to 80.  Plus these guys read 4 books in row and didn’t have to wait…not even, going to lie, Pel is slightly jealous about that.

The only downside we’ve seen is that when we now see mass gatherings of fans, the homemade tee shirts have all but disappeared. The commercial ones have taken over. We kind of miss that old school originality from back in the day when slogans like, “Edward Cullen: Cooler Than You Since 1917” were seen for the first time on a homemade shirt.

Anyway enough nostalgia before we get all weepy and start cyber hugging and singing Sarah McLachlan. We do have a poll because we are curious about some of the things in the MTV article.

Twilight Stars on Empire Magazine’s List

Empire Magazine has their 100 Sexy Stars of 2009 list out, and unsurprisingly Twilight cast members are on it. In our personal opinion the list is a little odd with the young actors of today mixed in with actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood like Marilyn Monroe and Paul Newman. It hardly seems fair to compare people to Grace Kelly and Carey Grant who are frozen in time at their youthful best, while the ever glamorous Liz Taylor is alive and pushing 80. Anyway, here’s how the Twilight cast landed on the Women’s and Men’s lists:

#32 Ashley Greene
“Most alluring as… Prescient vampire chick, Alice Cullen.”

#7 Kristen Stewart
Most alluring as… Em Lewin in Adventureland – sparky, human, and plenty sexy, in a surly, take-no-s#$@ kinda way.

#2 Robert Pattinson
Most alluring as… Gotta be Edward Cullen, with all that restrained passion and the penchant for melting glances.

#35 Taylor Lautner
Most alluring as… Jake-abs. Specifically, whenever he’s topless in Twilight. So for the most part, whenever he’s in New Moon then.

#36 Kellan Lutz
Most alluring as… He may be man of few words, but he’s in Twilight, what more do you need? Off the silver screen he does seem to have attracted a large female fanbase who squeal uncontrollably with delight so he’s doing something right.

Amy Kuney Mixes Miley and Rob

Singer and Songwriter Amy Kuney has entered the parody ring with her own take on the Rob Pattinson obsession. Her own rendition of Miley Cyrus’ Obsession is what’s playing in the background.

According to her YouTube Channel Amy says:

“I know I’m not the only person to be unhealthily obsessed with Robert Pattinson who plays Edward, lead vampire, in the bloody drama Twilight: New Moon, so I decided to take my unhealthy, unbalanced obsession to a whole new creepy level by doing a parody of Twilight and covering “Obsessed” by Miley Cyrus. Haha, “Robsessed”… I’m definitely on Team Edward.

I’m stoked to see New Moon coming out Nov. 20th! I’ll see you there, popcorn in hand 🙂
