Scene Today Magazine Updates on Breaking Dawn Filming

Scene Magazine which you can get in PDF format here for free. spoke about how their recent coverage on the security surrounding the Celtic Media Center(where Breaking Dawn is filming) went viral in hours. Their magazine covers the burgeoning film industry in Louisiana. They also spoke about the atmosphere in Baton Rouge. From our perspective in covering this since 2008, it certainly seems like the cast has been the least harassed by invasive people (not talking reasonable fans, but paps or wacko fans who grope or invade personal space) in Baton Rouge. Here’s what Scene had to say (you can get full coverage on page 9 of the PDF.)

“As Twilight has fallen on Baton Rouge, some other news outlets have been less considerate than Scene of the actors’ and filmmakers’ space, reporting on specific filming on location and even revealing their places of residence. Yet, there have been no negative incidents to report. Actors and filmmakers have been largely allowed to simply work. And the respect has been reciprocal.
While attending the LSU vs. Ole Miss game with Scene Magazine and other film industry professionals, Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey was approached by an exhuberant fifteen year old fan. In true Tiger spirit, he graciously posed for the photo at left before entering the Chancellors Party to tailgate as a guest of the university.”

Anne Rice Clarifies Her Stance on the Twilight Saga

Back in early November, Anne Rice made some commentary surrounding the Twilight Saga. The reaction wasn’t quite as bad as when Stephen King commented. At the time it seemed like Anne basically wants her vampires darker.

Here’s the part we quoted from an interview in New Jersey’s Star Ledger:

“Q. It is complicated, which is why I have such mixed feelings about “Twilight.” It’s so sanitized.

A. It’s based on a really silly premise: that immortals would go to high school. It’s a failure of imagination, but at the same time, that silly premise has provided Stephenie Meyer with huge success. It’s almost like a stroke of genius to put vampires in high school. They just graduate over and over again.

Q. I hated high school.

A. Doesn’t everyone? The idea that if you are immortal you would go to high school instead of Katmandu or Paris or Venice, it’s the vampire dumbed down for kids. But it’s worked. It’s successful. It makes kids really happy.

Q. It seems those books are sanitized whereas in the rest of pop culture, you’ll see very young girls dressed in an overtly sexual manner. The vampires are wholesome compared with the rest of what’s out there.

A. I don’t think vampires are very wholesome. They’re fantasy characters, and we have to keep reminding ourselves of this. They don’t exist. I get e-mails from people who are outraged that I watch “True Blood.” They say, “How can you condone the evil of ‘True Blood.’” I say, “Are you kidding? Vampires aren’t real. Keep that in mind.”

Links to full interview here.

Well now it seems that Anne had a Skype chat with students from St. Gertrude High School in VA(which if you’re up on Anne’s love/hate relationship with the Catholic church kind of ironic) Anyway, here’s a video of that Skype chat with thoughts on movies, Jane Eyre, the immortals in high school, and Stephenie’s writing.

Help a Twi-Guy and Our Troops Overseas

The Eyes of Amber Blog is one of our favorites. She is running an awareness campaign for what our troops overseas could use right now. Part of her idea comes from a Twi-Guy who was a guest blogger on her site. My own brother-in-law recently returned from duty in Afghanistan and he spoke about how cold it gets so these handwarmers would be great!

Here is part of what Eyes of Amber wrote, check out her blog for full details:

“One of the things that is so nice about having blog and twitter followers and the people in this fandom is that we are able to work together to help others. Some of you may remember Shaun, the soldier featured in my “Real Men Read Twilight” series. He also wrote a guest post during our Eclipse discussion. Shaun is currently deployed to Afghanistan and he’s given us a great idea on how to help support the troops. From his facebook page…

OK so a lot of you have been asking me about what you could possibly send and is there anyway to help out the troops. Yes there is and what we could use is some hand warmers. You know the kind that you shake up and put in your pockets. It is starting to get very cold out here and we don’t have very good heat sources …for our troops in the towers and on the line. These would go a long way in raising the troops’ morale.

They can use this type of hand warmers, foot warmers and body warmers. Anything like this to help keep them warm.”

Alexandra Patsavas Interviewed by Dose about the Twilight Saga Soundtracks

Dose has a great interview up with Alexandra Patsavas, the guru who has put together each of the Twilight soundtracks.

“Only the most try-hard of Twihards remember the exact rules of vampire baseball. But you might recall hearing Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole” as the Cullen family stepped up to the plate in the first installment of the Twilight Saga. But then, maybe that’s not your favourite Twilight musical moment (scenes involving goofy baseball shirts so infrequently are). Maybe you’re more into swooning along to Iron & Wine’s “Flightless Bird” as Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) slow-dance at their school prom (Twilight). Or gasping over Bella’s near-death visions of Edward as Grizzly Bear’s “Slow Life” burbles up from the watery depths (New Moon). Whatever your favourite Twilight track is, though, Alexandra Patsavas had a part in it.”

The Twitters supposedly run by Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor, Nikki Reed are all fakes. Ways to tell: mislabeling of photos stating where & when the pics were taken, Tweeting while clearly performing , all created around the same date, claiming they are posting personal photos when in reality are actually recycled paparazzi shots, official sites of actors don’t list a Twitter, etc. Also if they were real, Mr. Uber Twilight Twitter himself, Peter Facinelli, would no doubt mention it. Additionally Summit Entertainment confirms when each actor comes on twitter.  They are also such A-list stars that their account would be verified by Twitter right away. So don’t get fooled by the fakes!

EW Interviews David Slade

Entertainment Weekly has their interview with David Slade posted.  Having watched the Blu-Ray myself, I wondered why there weren’t more deleted scenes.  In particular, I wanted to see the scene where Bella envisions her life with Jacob.  Slade addressed this issue and others  in the interview.

Why don’t we see all the deleted scenes described in the commentaries on the DVD?
Stewart describes the first thing she shot on the movie — a “fairly ridiculous” sequence in which she imagined herself in the fireside flashback as the Quileute elder chief’s third wife, who stabbed and sacrificed herself to distract the vengeful female vampire attacking the village. Meyer and Godfrey describe people laughing when they saw it. Understandable that they would choose not to include it. Ditto the scene Bella imagined after her kiss with Jacob on the mountain. She saw them having grown old together. “There were a lot of issues with prosthetic makeup,” Slade says with a groan, then a laugh. “It gives me a bit of a shiver, as a filmmaker. As an idea, it was wonderful. What happens with a film is it becomes organic and it grows, and it tells you what it wants, and it was screaming loudly, ‘I don’t want that!’ to me.” Another scene described in the commentaries never actually got shot. “Stephenie really wanted to see Edward as a young man again, and we had this vision scripted for a while where Bella and he are together in Victorian times, as a kind of reverie,” Slade says.
