This week for Laura’s Movies.com column, she is going to be talking about the DVDs in the Twilight Saga: which have the best extras, which commentaries were the best, and what is missing that we really want (first thing that comes to mind is a decent gag reel). The Borders New Moon edition has a special place in her heart because of the podcast material. In any case, please chime in with your opinion, and you may find yourself quoted in the Movies.com article!
Demian Bichir Has New Moon to Thank For His Oscar Nomination
Well, sort of. Demian Bichir is currently one of the OSCAR nominees for his role in Chris Wietz’s first post Twilight film called A Better Life. He tells Collider that it came about because of a New Moon meeting.
Hadn’t you met with Chris Weitz a few years prior to making this film?
BICHIR: It was not so many years back, but I got a call from my agents saying that I had an audition for New Moon. It was not in my plans to become a vampire, but I wanted to meet Chris Weitz. So, I went to talk to him and I remember that we started talking about this gardener. He started telling me everything about this story about an undocumented worker, and I just couldn’t get it straight. I thought it was a gardener vampire, or something like that. I was a little bit confused. And then, he told me, “We don’t have a script yet, but I’d like you to read it, as soon as we have it ready.” A year later, I got ahold of the script and I fell in love with it instantly.

Tsunami Legislation Passes to Help Quileuete Nation
Almost a year ago, you may remember us bringng to your attention the Tsunami legislation that the Quileute Nation was trying to get passed. Well today the publicist for the Quileute Nation brings us great news. The efforts were then echoed by the Native American/First Nations actors in the cast. Well all those phone calls and letters paid off! She writes:
“Today the House of Representatives voted to pass HR1162 the Quileute Tsunami Protection legislation. The Quileute people have been trying to get this legislation to the floor of the House for nearly 50 years. I have attached Senior Congressman Norm Dicks statement that he read on the house floor today and as you will see he references the “Twilight Saga” in the first full paragraph after his introduction.:) An extremely historical moment for the Quileute. “First of all, on behalf of the Quileute Tribe, I would like to personally “Thank” Twilight Lexicon and all the other fan sites who have helped the Quileute people share the important message of the tsunami dangers the tribe faces with the legion of “Twilight” fans. A special “thank you” to all the fans for your support as well. I would especially like to share, our heartfelt appreciation to Tinsel Korey, Gil Birmingham, Kiowa Gordon, Julia Jones, Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier and Alex Meraz for all the social media support they provided the tribe during all the subcommittee hearings on the bill the past year. Please keep the tribe in your thoughts as they prepare for a very critical vote in the Senate.”
The statement read on the House floor is here.

The Winner at Madame Tussauds Is…
The contest being held at Madam Tussauds is over! And here are the results:
When Twilight star Taylor Lautner joined the Madame Tussauds A-list last month, fans were asked to choose between him and his co-star Robert Pattinson as they voted to crown one of them ‘King of Heartthrobs’, with the right to their own VIP room in the attraction. The voting closed on Friday 3rd February and after a weekend of counting (and re-counting) the attraction has today confirmed that the results were a draw. No tie breaker will be required however as the dashing duo will now share the limelight, standing shoulder to shoulder in a glitzy VIP area.
PR Manager at the attraction, Liz Edwards, commented “with both actors having such ardent fan bases we knew it would be a close call and we couldn’t be happier with the final result. Since Taylor joined Robert, the duo have rapidly become our most photographed figures in the attraction with more people snapping up their images than even Her Majesty the Queen’s. Fans are relishing the opportunity to get up close to two of the hottest young talents in the world right now, and we’re delighted to give them a double dose of heartthrob!”
What do you think? Leave us a comment and tell us who would you have voted for?
