Catherine Hardwicke: Twilight Was Romance Not Fantasy

Catherine Hardwicke talked to Seventeen Magazine about the differences between Twilight and Red riding Hood:

“CG: What draws you to these dark, fantasy movies, like Twilight and Red Riding Hood?

CH: When I read the Twilight book, I didn’t see it as fantasy. I saw it as a love story. I really wanted to create that feeling of being madly in love with someone. With Red Riding Hood, there was whole different feel. Although there is that sense of falling in love, it’s different than Bella and Edward’s relationship. Valerie gets suspicions of the person she loves, which is a very real theme. Sometimes you’re looking at someone you love your whole love and think, “Could they have a secret?” Maybe you don’t think your boyfriend is a murder, but you’re wondering if he’s cheating behind your back!

CG: You were originally interested in casting Shiloh Fernandez as the role of Edward in Twilight. What made you go back to him for Red Riding Hood?

CH: I liked him when he did the auditions for Twilight, but Rob and Kristen had more chemistry, which is something you just can’t fake. I’ve always believed my leading lady should have a say in who plays opposite her. I wanted Amanda [Seyfried] to be very involved with the person she was supposed to be in love with on screen. We had a bunch of guys come in to read with Amanda, but her and Shiloh just hit it off best!”

Edi Gathegi in New Tyler Shields Video

Photographer and videographer Tyler Shields is known for his avant guarde shooting style that features the up-in-coming of Hollywood. In the past he has featured Kellan Lutz cutting his clothes overkill style , Ashley Greene tied to the train tracks as a damsel in distress, Alex Meraz in angry shirt ripping, just to name a few Twilight connections.

The above video featuring Edi Gathegi is pretty tame since most of his work pushes the PG-13/R barriers. With Tyler Shields, you’re never quite sure what the message is. What do you think?

Breaking Dawn Wedding Dress Designer Revealed?

According to Reelz Channel, they feel that they have unearthed the mystery of who has designed Bella’s wedding dress.

“We have it on good word that Caroline Herrera designed the dress of the year, which will be revealed in the next week or so.”

See more at Reelz.

Somehow we don’t think that they will be revealing the dress so much as the name of the person who designed it. The dress itself will probably be a movie reveal.

Several years ago, Stephenie Meyer gave dress details to Lexicon reader Love 2 Dream who used to have a Bella’s Wedding Dress site. When that site was taken down, Love2Dream graciously gave the information to us so fans could still have it.

Stephenie’s description on the old Lexicon forums was, “I wish I still had the picture I based the description of Bella’s dress on, but it was lost in my fateful computer crash. Those of you who are going with the old fashioned look are on the right track. Two key words to aid in the search: art nouveau. It’s a simpler style than the frillier Edwardian stuff. Elegant white satin, cut on the bias, with long sleeves (the strapless thing is a very recent development. It wasn’t even popular when I was getting married, only 13 years ago, much less during the modest turn of the century). I search google images for the dress every now and then. I’ll let you know if I find something close one of these days.”

Love2dream based on Stephenie’s description, found the above images and asked if she was on the right track. Stephenie replied that the look was close, but not the exact photo that she had seen.

If you want some really good images of just how sexy a bias cut wedding gown can be click here. The bias cut is basically Golden Age of Hollywood glamor. Think Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth, Vivien Leigh.

Fandom Flashback: The Stephenie Meyer Book Signing

I was introduced to Twilight by a friend of mine from church in January of 2006. Like so many of you who fell in love with the story, I went on line to look for other people who liked the story that I could talk to. There wasn’t much to find at the time. What I did find was that Stephenie Meyer had her own website full of pictures of her trip to Forks with her sister, a few outtakes from the book, and some information on what had happened at a few of her book signings. The way she described it, before the actual signing she met with about 10 – 15 fans and just sat and chatted about Edward and the story in what she called an “I Love Edward Cullen” party. I was jealous. I wanted to go to one of those! Unfortunately, these were all held in October – December of 2005 just after the book released and were mostly out west in Utah and Arizona where Stephenie was from. Still, once I leaned there would be sequels to the series I was determined to someday be at a book signing and gush with Stephenie about how much I had fallen for the character of Edward Cullen.

Edi Gathegi Gets Great Review in Superior Donuts

Edi Gathegi is in a play written by Tony and Pulitzer winner Tracey Letts of August Osage County fame. The LA Times just gave it a thumbs up.

‘The best thing about Arney’s production is the rapport between the two leads. As Franco, Gathegi is always in exuberant motion, busting out ecstatic dance moves at any sign of approval, quipping and exhorting with a breathlessness that is just as dizzying. He’s a charmer, and he works overtime to get a reaction from Arthur, who, as played by Cole, is withdrawn yet not impervious to this young man’s charisma. This old progressive’s dried-up heart can still be touched.”

Robert Pattinson: No, You’re Not Seeing Double

Apparently there has been some doubt expressed online that the body we see breaking the headboard in the trailer belongs to Robert Pattinson. There were claims that a body double was in use.

Gossip Cop got on the case and has this to report:

“Gossip Cop looked into the story and was told by a production source that it was 100 percent Pattinson in the sex scene with Kristen Stewart.

Additionally, a rep for Summit tells us, “A body double was NOT used.”

So, in short, everything is the real deal. Feel free to continue your ogling 🙂

Stephenie Meyer Makes Forbes Powerful Women Authors List

Forbes Magazine which has previously included Stephenie Meyer in other power rankings, has just included her in the number four position on their Powerful Women Authors list.

“The women selected for this list are powerful because of their ability to influence us through their words and ideas. Collectively, these women hold readers captivated with stories of fantastical worlds, suspense and drama, insights into the complexities of minority experiences and cultures, and fresh takes on societal issues and expectations…not to mention, book sales of up to 800M copies sold and a wealth of prestigious awards and recognition including Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes.

In other words, these 10 women can tell (and sell) a good story.

Although there are many more women throughout history who have proven to be powerful authors, this list is limited to those who are living, with a focus on personal narrative and fiction writers.”
