Weekly Fandom Chat on YouTube

We had a great time tonight chatting with our fandom friends about Midnight Sun! We were considering doing a weekly show where we talk with various fans – old and new – on various Twilight related topics.  If this is something you think we should do, leave us a comment with a specific discussion theme or question you’d like addressed.

What year is it again???

Fansite Chat about Midnight Sun

We’re getting the band back together! Several of the fansite ops from days of yore have been chatting behind the scenes about the Midnight Sun news and we thought it would be fun to bring it out into the open! Monday May 11 at 8:00 EST 5:00 PT time, we will host a live stream event on the Lexicon’s YouTube channel for you to tune into, watch, and even ask questions. We will have a direct link for you later today. https://www.youtube.com/user/TwilightLexicon/  (Yes, we realized we’ve updated this link like three times…isn’t figuring out the technology fun when you haven’t done it everyday for 8 years? Anyway…we’ve got it down now. Hope you all can join us.)

Alphie and Pel (Lori and Laura) from the Lexicon will both be there as will Kallie from Twilight Series Theories, OhMyCarlisle (Amy) from Page to Premiere, Kara O from Twilight Moms, and Tashopolis (Natasha) from Page to Premiere.

We will be talking about our thoughts and reactions to the Midnight Sun news as well as sharing favorite fandom stories. If you have questions you’d like to have us answer, leave them below or join us for the livestream where you can participate.

Win a Stephenie Meyer Autographed Copy of The Bree Tanner Novel

BreeTannerThere are very, very, very few legit copies of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner that have been signed by Stephenie Meyer. If you are looking to complete your signed set, here is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.

Our friend and red carpet broadcasting buddy, Kallie from Twilight Series Theories, has another blog that covers the latest books. If you remember, Kallie was one of the fansite operators who was able to interview Stephenie Meyer back in June.  Kallie got Stephenie to sign a copy of Bree Tanner that day, and now she is giving it away on her Bookshelf Banter Blog.

Head over to Bookshelf Banter for your chance to win!

Twilight Series Theories: Fanjunket Friday: Volvos, Proposals, Teens, and Religion

Twilight Series Theories has another transcript and audio file up with their discussion with Stephenie Meyer. They entitled this week’s episode Volvos, Proposals, Teens, and Religion, but our favorite section is where Stephenie talks about stories left currently untold.

“LT:  If you were forced to write a sequel or some novella, which—what character or characters would you do?

SM: If I were to go ahead with sequels, and I think that I’ve already stated this in some book thing, I would tell it from two narrators again, although I think I’d switch back and forth and it would be Nessie and Leah.  And you know it’s funny because a lot of people are like—I’ve read a lot of theories about why I felt compelled to have Bella have a baby and there’s only one reason and it’s not because—there isn’t a lot of really negative stuff—it’s not because you know Bella needed to have a baby or anything, it’s because I knew—it was really clear because I’d already done “Forever Dawn”—once Bella becomes a vampire she loses her relatability.  It’s subtle, but you no longer could do anything she could do and it really, as a narrator, she—I wanted to continue, I wanted to show where she went with it—but as a narrator she loses a lot of her appeal because she’s a vampire now and it’s really interesting to see how she does things but emotionally I felt like the tie was not as strong.  I wanted my narrator for the next story.  When I was writing this I was never gonna stop and I may go back to it, but like I said there’s the burnout factor that you don’t take into account and working on the movies, it’s a lot of vampires.  But Nessie was created because she was the logical voice, you have someone who’s half-human, half-vampire who doesn’t fit in anywhere and is an outsider in some ways, but then loved and cherished by her family.  But all the intricacies—she had so many problems, so many challenges so she was so attractive to me as a narrator…”

Fanjunket With Stephenie Meyer: The Volturi and Music

In this weeks Fanjunket release, Twilight Series Theories has a full write up of mostly new material on the Volturi, what Stephenie finds dangerous, and music. You can listen to the audio or read the write up. Even if you hit some repeat material covered on other sites, there is more new material and you can see how the overall ideas in the conversation flowed from one thing to the next. It igves a great (in our opinion) big picture view.

Here’s a snippet:

SM: I mean it’s funny because I always use zombies as an example like how monsters you’re supposed to be able to look at…And see that’s…I find it so much more frightening when you can’t tell.  You know because it’s like I never really got scared over monster movies and I found I didn’t watch a lot of horror, the ones that scared me were like psycho because he looks like a nice guy and that’s when you don’t know.  And that’s the scary thing because you walk out of your house and there isn’t a dinosaur about to eat you but there is a guy right over there and what if he’s a psychopath?  And I’ve always been fascinated with appearances because evil doesn’t appear evil, it doesn’t.  It’s clean and shiny and pretty.  The Volturi are kind of, they’re villains that got to have 3,000 years to refine themselves into [this] perfect powerful presence, and they’re fun.  It’s fun to show vampires at the very pinnacle of that power, although they’re not really at the…They are very dark but you know you have a whole different kind.  You kind of figure with vampires the whole, like the more wild and blood-thirsty, but this is just such a controlling and patient kind of evil.

Elysa: That’s what creeps me out!

SM: The patience is…Well and one thing, Aro in particular, the really really darkest thing for me about him is that he can honestly love someone and still kill them if it gets in his way; like his sister who he honestly loved, who was like the most important person in his world, but she got in the way of his ambition and he could kill her and grieve her but grieve over what he had done but still do it because that was okay to him in his world. And when you can do that, when you can cross that line—shivers.”

Twilight Series Theories

Twilght Series Theories:“We talked in this segment about how the series was going to only be three books! It would have ended with Eclipse, and Stephenie even has an alternate ending! There was also some talk about ‘Book-Characters’ vs. ‘Movie-Characters’, and all the spoilers that come with movie previews! We hope you enjoy this weeks audio, and if you prefer you can read the transcript below… THANKS TO STEFANIE!”

Stephenie Meyer:Fan Junket Interview: Eclipse Flashbacks

Twilight Series Theories has the transcript of this next part of the luncheon discussion four fansites had with Stephenie Meyer.

“TST(Kallie): Ok, I have a question… It is movie related… In Eclipse we get a lot of background for Rosalie, Jasper and the Quileutes. Which I love, love, love!  it’s my favorite part of reading the book, and getting to know the characters.  So which of the backgrounds are you most excited, or have you been most excited to played out on film?

SM: I found Jasper’s really exciting.

TST(Kallie): That’s what I’m most excited about!

SM: I think that having read them… Well, when I was writing them I really liked the Quileute background.

TST(Kallie): I love the Quileutes, and so for me, I was so excited to see the third wife and all that.  But because reading Bree (The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner) I am so excited to see Jackson’s background being played out.

SM: They’re short in the movie, becasue they have to be.  That’s always the heartbreak of them. The biology scene… it kills you because you want to see Rob and Kristen do that.

LT: It’ll just be five hours long!

SM: Yah! So it was hard to have them shortened down.  I think that Nikki Reed will surprise you in her section, she does so great!”

The Stephenie Meyer Fansite Interview: The Midnight Sun Answer

You can hear or read this part of the fansite discussion that took place last weekend in Los Angeles. Twilight Series Theories, Twilight Source, Twifans, and Letters to Twilight were all there for a four hour discussion.

Much of that discussion can’t be made public until after Eclipse comes out so as not to spoil the movie; however, the sites were given permission to broadcast/write-up the first thing Stephenie talked to the group about which was the status of Midnight Sun.

You can listen here and hear Stephenie herself in her own words:
