Stephenie Meyer Talks About Bree Tanner on Her Website

jodelleBreeBurnAside from today’s press release ( see the entry below) announcing that there would be a novella covering the story of Bree (now Bree Tanner, she has a last name…who knew!) the newborn from Eclipse, Stephenie has provided a TON of extra details not covered in the press release on her website. Highlights below, but get over to StephenieMeyer.com to read the whole thing.

  • The novella started as a writing exercise back when Eclipse was being edited
  • Originally it was intended for the Official Guide, but it ended up as 200 pages and that just wasn’t going to work size-wise
  • There will be further word on the Official Guide by the end of the year
  • Melissa Rosenberg, David Slade, and Jodelle Ferland got to peek at Bree’s story so aspects of it could be included in the Eclipse movie.
  • Jodelle had to burn her copy after reading it for security (see picture).
  • The novel will be available in both a free form online at the website BreeTanner.com and as a hard cover book with$1.00 of the proceeds from each book going to the American Red Cross to assist aiding the earthquake victims of Chile and Haiti.

And speaking as fan who operate this fansite, Alphie and Pel think they can safely speak for the fandom when we say

WOO HOO!

THANK YOU STEPHENIE!

INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON STEPHENIE MEYER

THE SHORT SECOND LIFE OF BREE TANNER:

AN ECLIPSE NOVELLA

NOVELLA ORIGINALLY CONCEIVED AS SHORT STORY
FOR THE TWILIGHT SAGA: THE OFFICIAL GUIDE
ONE DOLLAR FROM EACH BOOK SOLD IN THE US
WILL BE DONATED TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS
FOR INTERNATIONAL RELIEF EFFORTS

NEW YORK, NY (March 30, 2010) – Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, has announced today that it will release the first new title from Stephenie Meyer in nearly two years. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a novella told from the point of view of Bree, a character originally featured in Eclipse. The novella (at 192 pages) will be released at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in hardcover for $13.99 with a first printing of 1.5 million copies. One dollar for each book sold in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which supports disaster relief efforts such as those in Haiti and Chile.*

“I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella,” said Stephenie Meyer. “When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of Eclipse, which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my website. Then, when work started on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, I thought the Guide would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the Guide.”

As a special thank you to fans, Meyer is giving them exclusive access to the novel on a dedicated website, www.breetanner.com, from June 7 to July 5, 2010 where fans from around the world will be able to read the book online in English. “I’d always considered The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner as something for the fans,” said Meyer. “They have been so supportive of all things Twilight.”

Visitors to the dedicated site will also find a link to the American Red Cross website (www.redcross.org), where they can make a donation and learn more about their relief efforts worldwide. “I have been moved by the generous outpouring of support for the recent crises in Haiti and Chile,” said Meyer. “I am glad that sales of this book will support the American Red Cross with their amazing efforts abroad.”

“Fans have been waiting with bated breath for a new book from Stephenie,” said Megan Tingley, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. “We are doubly thrilled to be giving them the opportunity to read this exciting new work as well as contribute to an important cause at the same time.”

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is the riveting story of Bree Tanner, a newborn vampire first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the world she inhabits. The novella chronicles the newborn vampire army’s journey as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.
The character Bree not only features prominently in the book Eclipse, but in the upcoming movie from Summit Entertainment. “Stephenie was gracious enough to let me read a draft of the novella while we were prepping the movie The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” said Director David Slade. “I thoroughly enjoyed the story and it gave us great insight and inspired location choices and the tailoring of scenes. I think fans are going to love the fascinating details involved in the loves, fears and actions of an emerging vampire.”

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner will also be available as an ebook beginning at 6:00 a.m. EST on June 5, 2010. Additionally, more information about the previously announced The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, including publication date, will be released by the end of the year.

In less than five years, Stephenie Meyer has become a worldwide publishing phenomenon. The Twilight Saga’s translation rights have been sold in nearly 50 countries and 100 million copies have been sold worldwide.
*Donations to the American Red Cross from the US sales of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner will continue until all first printing copies have been sold or at the end of a two-year period from the initial publication date, whichever is the first to occur.

MTV Movie Award Nominations Are Out! Twilight in Most Categories.

MTV2010MovieAwardsVoting for the annual MTV movie awards has begun. This year in addition to the standard categories, MTV has added three new categories: Global Superstar, Best Ass-Kicking Star and Best Scared-as-Sh– Performance.

Here’s how the nominations panned out. We think we did pretty well on our predictions! BUT we think we can do better by using the write in feature that comes at the bottom of each category!

Best Movie: New Moon

Best Female Performance: Kristen Stewart (competing against herself in New Moon and The Runaways, and Dakota is nominated for The Runaways.)

Best Male Performance: Taylor Lautner (with competition from Rob in Remember Me,  well…this is going to be interesting.)

Breakthrough Female Performance: Woo Hoo! Go Anna Kendrick for Up In the Air!

Breakthrough Male Performance: Taylor Lautner is not there? Is it because they put him in last year against Robert Pattinson? Time to use that write in feature!

Best Villain: Neither Michael Sheen nor Dakota Fanning made it. Time to use that write in feature, again!

Best Kiss: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (However competition from Dakota and Kristen in The Runaways, Rob and Emilie in Remember Me, and Taylor and Taylor in Valentine’s Day)

Best Fight: WOAH! Daniel Cudmore and Robert Pattinson didn’t make it. Time to use that write in feature one more time!

Best Ass Kicking Star: Daniel Cudmore could use a little love here, use that write in in this new category!

Best Global Superstar: Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson (Holy Way To Split The Vote, Batman!)

Best Song: In a shocker move, the category is eliminated!

So get over to MTV and get voting!

James Woods Scouting Locations For Movie With Kristen Stewart

According to Buffalo station WGRZ, to actor/director James Woods is scouting locations in the Buffalo, NY area to film a movie called American Girl starring Kristen Stewart.

“I was searching for the heartland of America, and I couldn’t think of a better place than Buffalo,” said Woods in an interview with 2 On Your Side’s Stu Boyar. Woods plans to step away from the silver screen and take on the roles of director and producer. The film, entitled An American Girl, is set to star Kristen Stewart, the actress most commonly known for her leading role in the Twilight films. Stewart will play a woman who enlists in the Marines in hopes of finding herself, only to be wounded in the line of duty…”This movie honors all people who stand in harms way for others,” said Woods. “It is a message not told often enough in this industry, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Hit Fix: Will Eclipse Make Less Money Than New Moon?

eclipsecropSo far the Twilight Saga movies are on the rise. New Moon beat Twilight’s box office total in under 14 days, but what will happen with Eclipse? Frequently, franchise movies aren’t on a constant build. For example the Harry Potter movies have had their ups and downs. Harry Potter and the Socerer’s Stone, the initial movie in the series, remains the best selling Potter movie followed by Half-Blood Prince and Order of the Phoenix. The Prisoner of Azkaban, third in the series, is the least successful at the box office.

Hit Fix examines the possibilities:

“One of the films expected to battle for the summer box office crown or at least place in the top five is the third “Twilight” feature, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.”  The second installment, “New Moon,” broke the single day all-time opening record with $72 million, is currently the third biggest 3-day opening of all time with $142 million and ended up with $296 million domestic and $707 million worldwide.  And that was all in November when many of the franchise’s younger fans had school on Friday (although let’s assume many of them cut out early).  “Eclipse’s” June 30 release should find those young tween girls out of school and flocking to the theater. Adding more intrigue to the box office gross is that “Eclipse” will also be released in IMAX theaters which feature higher ticket prices.  So, a larger opening weekend is guaranteed right?  No doubt, but what happens after that?”

See more at Hit Fix.

So what do you think?  In our experience, Eclipse tends be the favorite book of many fans of the  series.  It certainly ranks as the favorite book of many of the actors. Will that fuel the box office?

Jackson Rathbone Talks Dread to Movieweb

jacksonrathbonedread2Jackson Rathbone covers his role in Dread and his recent stint as a music video director and palns for teh future.

“We talked a bit about the music video you directed. Is that maybe a stepping stone into feature directing for you then?

Jackson Rathbone: Oh, definitely. I’m actually adapting a couple of short stories right now, not for full-length but for short films, so hopefully I can start kind of slowly, get my feet wet, starting to inch my way to that big feature directing, producing and writing. I want to start off adapting and directing those short films and then, hopefully, write and original full-length film and direct it. That’s kind of my plans for next year or the year after. It’s definitely going to happen within the next few years.
Are these short stories anything we might be familiar with?

Jackson Rathbone: Well, right now, I’m kind of in the middle of the option agreements and all that. I can’t really talk about it too much, I don’t want to jinx it. I want to make sure it goes through and get the option, because I’ve already kind of written it (Laughs). Now I’m just waiting to make sure that’s legal.

Finally, what would you like to say to any fans of the horror genre or maybe your Twilight fans about why they should pick up Dread on DVD?

Jackson Rathbone: Well, I think if you want to have a good time with a nice psychological thriller, get a little scared, I think it’s a good movie for your girlfriend too (Laughs). Make her hold you close, that’s always right with a horror film. It’s a great film. If people are interested in checking it out, I’d love it.”
