Kellan Lutz: Men’s Health July/August Cover Story

Kellan Lutz has landed on the cover of Men’s Health Magazine for July/August:

“Kellan Lutz’s abs epiphany came during an eighth-grade graduation party at a water park. “Before then, I never knew abs were attractive,” he says. “Where I grew up in Arizona, you would never see anyone without a shirt on at school. But when I took off my shirt, all the girls were, like, ‘Oh, look at your abs!’ And I was, like, ‘Yeah!’ ”

Psychologists call this “positive reinforcement.” And Lutz instinctively knew what to do: Stay active.

It’s understandable to be ticked off by Lutz’s looks, which are great despite the deathly pallor of his vampire character in the Twilight flicks. Men resent other men who are that good-looking and that fit. It seems too easy.

But it wasn’t. The 25-year-old’s advantage was an early love of athletics, but he’s had to put in constant effort to maintain his physique. He played football in high school (plus trombone in the marching band–a hell of a timemanagement trick), hit the gym regularly for years, and considered becoming a Navy SEAL. One of the reasons he attended Chapman University was its location–near the beach.”

On The Red Carpet: Kellan Lutz, Eclipse Would Even Attract Haters

Hopefully the haters will be converted, or at least may they not troll!

IESB: Press Conference, The Cullen Family Interview

IESB covered the Eclipse press conference and has transcribed the Cullen family interview. This is the best Cullen family coverage to date!:

“At a press conference to promote the upcoming release of the film, co-stars Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene and Jackson Rathbone talked about what gets them into character and why Eclipse is the most accessible of the Twilight films so far.

Q: For someone who hasn’t been a fan of the series, why would you recommend that someone should see this movie?

Nikki: I think it deals with universal topics, and not only this really intense, “I would do anything, and literally die for you,” kind of love that we’ve all felt, at one point or another. With this film in particular, you get to learn a little bit more about some of the characters, like Rosalie and Jasper. When you’re dealing with a screenplay, you really have to focus on what’s important, which is the love triangle. The rest of us feel like we’re screaming and clawing to show something.

Peter: I think that there’s a misconception with Twilight that it’s just for pre-teen and teenage girls, and that guys won’t want to go see it. When New Moon came out, it had more action and guys responded to that, although they didn’t really want to admit it. It’s like driving around, singing and listening to Barry Manilow in your car, belting it out loud, and then someone pulls up next to you and you pretend like you’re not. Now, with Eclipse, the action has gotten even greater. For me, as a male, it’s my favorite book because I love the all the action, yet you still have this love triangle that’s heated up even more. It hits on a lot of different things. It has themes of vengeance, which is universal. You have themes of alliances being formed between two different families, or mortal enemies that are teaming up for a common good, which is a great universal message. This has a family that you can relate to, in the sense that they’re bonded and joined up for a common good, with the action and the love story. It’s got a lot of things going on for a lot of different people. I’ve had fans that are six years old, up to 80. I’m hoping that they enjoy it. It’s my favorite book, and I enjoyed it.”

Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, and Ashley Greene To Do Moviefone’s Unscripted

AshelyNikkiKellanmoviefone

In the past we’ve seen Moviefone unscripted with Stephenie Meyer, Kristen Stewart, and Robert Pattinson for Twilight and with the Volturi for New Moon. Now it’s Kellan, Nikki, and Ashley’s turn. According to Moviefone:

“Hold out a little longer Twihards, the latest installment of ‘Twilight’ is almost here! ‘Eclipse’ swoops into theaters June 30, and its stars Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen), Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale) and Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) will be taking your questions for a new session of Unscripted.

In the newest flick, the Cullens team up with the werewolf pack to stop a newborn vampire army.

On Saturday, June 12, the Cullen kids will be stopping by our Moviefone Unscripted studio to ask each other questions submitted by you.

You can ask them anything from their favorite behind-the-scenes moment to what it was like teaming up with the werewolves. Just make sure to submit your questions by Fri., June 11 at 12PM ET”

So go to Moviefone and leave your questions there.

Edited: They are also asking Taylor Lautner, Robert Pattinson, and Kristen Stewart fan questions at the press junket, but that is not part of Unscripted.

NY Post: Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz Have Signed On For Breaking Dawn

kellashThe source here is the New York Post’s Page Six, which typically covers things like who drunkenly stumbled out of the NYC club scene the night before to various celebs strolling with their kids in the Village and Central Park. So, consider the source. I think we can be tentatively optimistic that Kellan and Ashley have signed on. EW and THR who have been covering the story since day one and have stronger reputations (in our opinion) probably have similar sources, we’ll be watching for their validation.

“Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz have closed deals to reup their roles in the next Twilight movie, “Breaking Dawn.”

Greene and Lutz signed contracts last nights, acccording to sources close to the deal.

Movie studio Summit Entertainment, which has made billions off the franchise, had been in negotiations with the two supporting characters since last week, but the two actors reportedly wanted pay increases for the next movie since the studio did not allow them to renegotiate on the second and third films.

Summit caved in after the two actors held out for more cash. “The studio realized how valuable Ashley and Kellan are to the franchise and did what they needed to do to keep them,” said a source close to the situation.”
See the total dollar amount here.

EDITED: The Hollywood Reporter Corroborates the NY POST story:

“Lutz and Greene are getting in the neighborhood of $1.25 million for each of the final movies, we’re told. A far cry from either the $4 million or $2 million (depending on who you believe) paydays they were initially seeking. But certainly more than they made for the first three movies.

We’re told the deals closed last night after a week of tense negotiations. Will the studio now officially greenlight a fifth “Twilight”? No word yet, and sources say the trigger won’t be pulled until everything is 100% finalized. But now that the principal cast (Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner) are wrapping up deals, supporting players are signed and director Bill Condon is on board for two movies, we expect an announcement very soon.”

Video: Kellan Lutz at Macy’s Calvin Klein event

From the looks of the video, Kellan was a real crowd pleaser at Macy’s on Saturday where he took photos with fans to promote his Calvin Klein underwear line. Kellan was literally jumping for joy and sweeping fans off their feet.

New York Times: Kellan Lutz: Stretching a Six-Pack

The New York Times has a retrospective on the Calvin Klein underwear campaigns over the years. They interview Kellan about what his current campaing means to him.

““It is simple: whoever represents Calvin becomes a star,” said Sam Shahid, the art director who worked with Mr. Weber and Mr. Klein on many of the early campaigns. “What’s amazing is the longevity this has had.”

The work that goes into a single campaign image is considerable — Mr. Lutz worked with a trainer for weeks to bulk up his chicken legs, gave up candy and thought back to all he had learned from his earlier modeling days to capture a look, he said, that suggested he could just as well have been walking down a street, holding a smile and having a conversation with someone without thinking, “Gosh, I’m in my underwear.”

“You have to look like you enjoy what you’re selling,” Mr. Lutz said. “It doesn’t look that hard, but a lot of people don’t think about what goes into it.”

The effect, as intended, was almost immediate.

“I won’t lie about it,” he said. “I started getting text messages and calls from producers, and when I went into meetings for scripts, people were always commenting on the billboard and asking for pictures for their daughters.””

Kellen is making an appearance in the Macy’s flagship 34th Street store this weekend. You can read the entire article on the New York Times.
