USA Today: Stephenie Meyer’s ‘Twilight’ Series Sweeps Top Four Spots

USA Today is recognizing the amazing sales accomplishments of the Twilight Saga novels. According to USA Today (in what  is sure to raise a few eyebrows and draw some pitchforks):

“For the second year in a row, Meyer swept the top four spots. No other author — not even J. K. Rowling— has done that in the list’s 16-year history.

Meyer’s coattails pulled 16 other vampire titles onto the list of the year’s 100 most popular books.”

They further expand upon the idea that the Twilight Saga novels are responsible for the current vampire resurgence in another article as well.

“We have Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight vampires to thank, in part, for the fact that at least 17% of all book sales tracked in 2009 were related to vampires (and assorted other undead creatures, including zombies) or the paranormal (including paranormal romances). That was up from 14% in 2008, which in turn was way up from 2% in 2007.”

Fan Gets Phone Call with Chris Weitz

The fan who won the Twilight Twitter Sweepstakes for a call with Chris Weitz has blogged about the call.

1.) How nerve-racking was it to know you had to relocate several location for New Moon?

A.) It was really nerve-racking because I thought people would notice and be upset, it was a puzzle to get it just right. The outside of the school is all CGI, we built the stairway for the school and took stills. In the Cullen’s house I also tried to show different rooms in the house to add to the feeling of the house. When Taylor was traveling during Twilight a fan gave him a hand-carved Native American ornament. We used that ornament in Jacob’s room in New Moon.

2.) I know Edward’s car is now a dark silver, but was there any reason for the change?

A.) Availability. Volvo wanted to introduce a new car into the series, instead of the older model. So they provided a newer model, brown Volvo. Immediately we knew it had to be repainted, and chose a dark, non-shiny, black colour. It added more to the first Edward scene in the movie, the feeling is upbeat but the colour of the vehicle adds to the danger lurking.

Good Luck Kristen Stewart

Kristen StewartKristen Stewart is having an exciting week.

First she is nominated for a BAFTA rising star award, which is quite a big deal since Kristen is not a native of the UK. In the past winners usually have a strong UK connection, like last year’s winner of Dr. Who fame, Noel Clark or 2006 winner James McAvoy. But best wishes to Kristen.

It was also announced today that The Runaways, which will have it’s debut at Sundance and is currently generating a huge buzz on the indie film circuit, will go into wide release on March 19.

This is also the weekend that the New Moon DVD is highly likely (based upon last year’s DVD release date and information on Amazon and Blockbuster) to be out; however, nothing official on that from Summit.

Anna Kendrick: The Midas Touch

The national has a feature on Anna Kendrick and her work in the Twilight Saga movies, Up In The Air, and her early Broadway career. When asked about the Twilight fans and their crazy reputation, Anna said:

“There are a lot more people around that don’t have anything to do with the film,” she says. “The Twilight fans that showed up – they might be very loud at premieres, but on set they are very respectful and the second cameras start rolling they are really quiet and co-operative. It’s interesting. You have to do that theatre thing where you forget that people are there. You don’t get that sense that they are there to be critical, they’re there to be supportive.”

Kristin Chenoweth’s New Moon Audition

Earlier this month Kristin did a trailer spoof, now she back with an audition spoof. It’s all promo stunts for the Critics Choice Awards airing this Friday night on VH1.

College Humor Spoofs Twilight

Keep in mind it is the college humor site so there’s some of what you might call R-rated, locker room humor leading up to a pretty funny ending. TY to Anne Marie for the heads up.

Michael Sheen Interviews Ashley Greene

Michael Sheen who co-stars with Ashley in the upcoming movie Apparition interviews Ashley in the aptly named Interview Magazine.

“In the Twilight movies, Ashley Greene plays the saga’s resident good-girl vampire, Alice Cullen—all pixie haircut and motherly touch, not a hint of bloodlust in her earnest high-school demeanor. Greene’s career—and her life—has changed dramatically since she was cast in the blockbuster series. For one thing, teenage girls shake uncontrollably and burst into tears when they see her on the street. For another, it was just a couple of years ago that the 22-year-old Greene was struggling to land guest spots with no dialogue, and almost had to leave Los Angeles and return to her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, where she’d originally planned to study psychology and law. But now, she’s booking movies faster than she can make them—including her first big lead, in the upcoming supernatural thriller, The Apparition. Michael Sheen, Greene’s co-star in Twilight and New Moon, recently caught up with the actress.”

Twilight: Put on Your Spidey Senses

When word hit the street that Toby McGuire wouldn’t be reprising his role as our building swinging hero, speculation started as to who his replacement would be.  Rumor also has it that the next movie is the hugely popular franchise will focus on Peter Parker’s teen years. The UK’s Mirror mentioned Robert Pattinson, although that seems a longshot to us. Rob’s great but isn’t quite the average-looking, boy next-door,pseudo- geek the role call s for.  MTV’s Hollywood Crush is suggesting that Michael Welch is closer to the character.

What do you think? Is there hope for Twilight to meet Spiderman?
