The Novel Twilight Reaches a UK Sales Record

According to the Book Seller Blog:

“Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, the first instalment in the US novelist’s hugely popular dark romance series of the same name, has become only the 13th novel to sell more than two million copies in the UK since the turn century.

Stephenie Meyer follows in the footsteps of J K Rowling, Dan Brown and Mark Haddon – the only other authors to have achieved the two-million-in-the-21st-century feat.

Last week, the book sold 16,672 copies in the UK, taking its total sales to date to 2,005,609. Just over £9.7m has been spent on the book since it was first published in the UK in 2006 – a year in which it sold just 1,684 copies, according to Nielsen BookScan data.”

For those of you who didn’t discover Twilight until more recently, Twilight struggled to find an audience in the UK if for no other reason the UK distributor saddled it with a now replaced terrible cover and then came up with an arguably even more dreadful cover for New Moon (seen above). At the time, it was our perception that they  seemed hell bent on marketing it as dark vampire lit. As the article states, the book took off once it gained fame in the US, was repackaged in the US format after Eclipse, and not marketed as a dark, gothic, tale.

Incidentally, if you have the book with one of those covers and it’s in good shape, it stand potential as a collectors item particularly if you can get a Stephenie Meyer signature in it.

Diablo Cody Has Robert Pattinson as a Sidekick, Sort Of

Diablo Cody (writer of Juno fame) has just started her own Internet talk show called Red Band Trailer(Note: It is definitely an adult themed show with non-PG-13 language and themes, and would not be considered work safe.)  that you can catch on YouTube.  Robert Pattinson in the pillow form of Edward Cullen plays a role.

According to the LA Times:

“Like every great chat show host, Diablo Cody has revealed the Ed Sullivan to her Johnny Carson, the Paul Shaffer to her David Letterman — and it’s none other than Robert Pattinson.

Kinda.

For the second installment of her mobile chat show, “Red Band Trailer,” the screenwriter features comedian Chelsea Handler. After downloading with the E! star about booze and boys, Cody retires to her trailer couch and reviews her day with a body pillow featuring Pattinson’s brooding face.”

It’s not quite Jimmy Fallon in a tree, but it has it’s own merits in a non-PG-13, girl’s spin kind of way.

Lee Pace for Garrett

Ted Casablanca on E! has apparently learned that Lee Pace is up for the role of Garrett in Breaking Dawn. If the rumor proves to be true, this will mark the second time Ted Casablanca has gotten casting info. The first time was Dakota Fanning as Jane which broke in Ted Casablanca’s and Nikki Finke’s columns at practically the same moment.

On a deal such as this, you won’t get official confirmation from anyone until the ink is nearly, solidly dry on the contract. Also given Garrett’s plotline with Kate, it would seem likely that they would want to have Kate cast and to make sure there is an acting chemistry before nailing down the part.

So we are in for a wait. The only way we anticipate direct news on this in the near future is if Lee Pace is not at all in the running and his management is being flooded with calls making business as usual difficult for them. Then they’ll issues a “he’s not interested” statement. So, at the moment, no news is potentially good news.

So, what have you seen Lee in, and what do you think?

EDITED: Looks like Gossip Cop got on the case and exactly what we said might happen with Lee Pace’s management did. “A production source tells Gossip Cop no one has been cast, and a rep for Pace informs us the actor has not been approached.”

Edi Gathegi to Join X-Men

Earlier this month rumors swirled that Taylor would be joining the X-men franchise and that stars like Hugh Jackman were behind the idea. Those rumors later proved to be just that, rumor. However all is not lost for Twilight involvement in X-men. Edi Gathegi has landed himself a prime role.

According to Deadline Hollywood who got the scoop:

“Edi Gathegi, who played a chillingly evil vampire in Twilight and Twilight Saga: New Moon, is joining X-Men: First Class in the role of Darwin. That character, the first bi-racial mutant (in the comic series), has the power of “reactive evolution,” which allows him to adapt to any situation or environment. Plunged underwater, he’ll grow gills, he’ll gain night vision in pitch black and his skin grows fire retardant when burned.”

At the moment, Edi is over in the UK filming.

Melissa Rosenberg: The Line Between Viseral and Just Plain Too Graphic

This is rapidly becoming the most widely discussed topic in what’s ironically probably going to amount to under 5 minutes of screen time.

Sage Video Directed by Nikki Reed on YouTube.

Those of you who followed Twilight back when New Moon was filming might remember Sage and her band playing a gig in Vancouver where Nikki helped out. Sage also appeared at TwiCon last summer and was a hit with fans.

Yesterday, we also confirmed with Nikki’s management that this website was Nikki’s and not a hoax so check it out.

Well today, Sage’s new video that was directed by Nikki Reed has hit YouTube. Check it out below. Note the video pushes the PG-13 boundaries, depending upon where you work/go to school it might not be considered work safe or school appropriate. If in doubt wait until you are at home before playing.
