Kellan Lutz God of the Sea

KellanMTV is confirming what Kellan Lutz first mentioned at the Official Twilight Tour in Los Angeles, that he has been cast as the Greek God Poseidon in War of the Gods. When Kellan spoke to the audience at The Official Twilight Tour, he stated that Poseidon was his favorite in mythology.

“Twilight” actor Kellan Lutz is the newest recruit in “War of the Gods,” the upcoming Greek mythology epic from director Tarsem Singh (“The Fall”).

Lutz has earned the role of Poseidon, the Greek god that rules over the seas, according to Variety. He joins an impressive cast list that includes Henry Cavill (“The Tudors”) as the heroic Theseus, Mickey Rourke (“Iron Man 2”) as the ruthless King Hyperion and Freida Pinto (“Slumdog Millionaire”) as Phaedra, an oracle priestess.

“War of the Gods” is a swords-and-sandals epic centered on mortal soldiers caught in a war between the eternal Greek gods and the evil Titans, with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance. Production is scheduled to begin in April based on a screenplay written by Jason Keller.”

Muse In or Out on Eclipse Soundtrack?

Back in the fall Muse stated that they were excited to work on the Eclipse soundtrack. Then, about a month ago in a Contact Music article it sounded like they didn’t make the final cut. This frankly seemed odd to us just on the timing because the actors are still doing ADR work and frequently you don’t deal in soundtrack until after the ADR work is practically done. So now Twilighters Anonymous is reporting that Muse is back in.  Here’s the story according to Twilighters Anonymous.

“TA has a reporter who has been covering events down at the SXSW (South By Southwest) Festival in Austin, Texas all week. Well today that reporter happened to find themselves in conversation with informed sources from Chop Shop/Atlantic Records. The source has confirmed that Muse will indeed be on the Eclipse soundtrack.”

Aziz Ansari: Why He was Watching Twilight Mystery Solved

azizLast week we told you about Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari live tweeting while he watched Twilight. No one really knew what spakred the sudden interest. Now the LA Times showtracker seems to have stumbled on the answer. If this is true, you have to hand it to him for doing research on what is likely to be featured on a one-day gig.

“Insiders tell Showtracker exclusively that the comedian and “Parks and Recreation” star is in final negotiations to host the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, slated to air live June 6 from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City.

Last week, Ansari spent a couple of days live-tweeting his first-ever viewings of “Twilight” and its sequel “New Moon”:

Never thought I’d see a dude pull up in a Subaru Forrester with such authority. … #TwilightAziz

(As of last Thursday, the comedian was still unsure about whether he was Team Edward or Team Jacob.)”

Twilight Graphic Novel Rocking the Sales

Twilight Graphic NovelA fast look at Amazon.com and the Twilight Graphic novel is in (at the time of this post) the number 1 position in all three graphic novel tracking categories and is in the top 30 books being sold on Amazon overall. At our podcast in New York on Friday we did a little informal poll to see what the interest was. The audience was pretty even among those who were getting it no matter what, maybe getting it after looking at it, and not getting it because graphic novels aren’t their thing.

Many people after the podcast came up to look at our sample, and we saw it in quite a lot of people’s hands as they lined up for their DVD at midnight. Most were struck by the artwork’s depth. Manga in style, but not so far into the genre that the characters looked too cartoonish: no overly heavy eyebrows, neon primary colors, or eyes the size of dinner plates here.

It’s a sales first for a graphic novel on many levels according to The Advertiser

“The 350,000 first printing is believed to be the biggest for any graphic novel in the U.S. market.

Because of the original Twilight novel’s length, the graphic novel will be published in two volumes. No date has been announced for the second. Nor is there any word on whether the last three books in the series will be adapted to the format.

The hardcover book, illustrated and adapted by South Korean artist Young Kim, was created with author Meyer’s oversight.

“When it comes to really seeing Stephenie Meyer’s personal vision of the Twilight property, this is as close an opportunity there is to accomplishing that,” said Yen’s Kurt Hassler. “Stephenie was very specific and has very clear images of what the characters look like in her head.”

People Magazine: Nikki Reed on Eclipse Preparation

nikki-reedPeople Magazine asked Nikki Reed about Eclipse preparation.

“Movie vampire Nikki Reed says she wanted to “die” shooting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse because it was so emotionally and physically draining.

“We’re always standing out in like 30-degree weather, with pouring rain, trying to keep our vampire makeup intact,”she told PEOPLE at designer Yotam Solomon’s fashion show in Los Angeles. “It’s hectic, it’s crazy, it’s very jam-packed full of emotion.”

“We were doing a lot of stunts, too much in too little time,” Reed, 21, said, calling life on set “tough.” “The hardest part is trying to fly around on cables in the woods at 6 o’clock, fighting the sunset and stuff. And looking like we’re not cold and super powerful, when we just want to die.”

The Runaways: Box Office Hit? Let’s Look at Some Facts.

DakotaKrisRun1It’s funny how fast things get judged. There are various reports out there comparing The Runaways’ opening weekend to Remember Me’s opening weekend. Unfortunately they seem to be over looking several key factors.

1.  The Runaways is only open in limited release. There are many cities that won’t get it until April.

2. On Friday, Twilight fans went to DVD release parties then played the DVD, slept in and then did it again. On Sunday they did everything else that they should have done the previous two days. They’ll see the flim next weekend.

3. The film is rated R which is going to cut into a chunk of the Twilight audience, not all of it, but a chunk of it.

In any case the film seems to be meeting with wide critical appeal from fans and critics. Let’s see what happens when it goes into wide release.

Kristen and Dakota also gave an interview to LAish. Check part of it out below.

LAist: One of the first things you did to get into character was cut your hair off.

Kristen: I needed to feel sweat dripping down my face. I would have felt like a fraud if I had a wig on. I’ve worn wigs in the past and they can look great. A lot of actresses won’t work without them. Dakota’s wig looked amazing, she worked really well with it. With the wardrobe and the hair it slowly becomes like a reality that you can believe. It can feel like this huge job, like, “How am I ever going to approach this?” And then you get on set and it all comes together. I can’t really bring myself to do anything until I’m on set. We didn’t see her do “Cherry Bomb” until we shot it. We were all floored. It was so cool.

LAist: Did you guys watch old videos of the band performing to prepare for your roles? I know I went home and watched them on YouTube after seeing the movie.

Dakota: You compared them, ooh.

Kristen: Yeah… you can do that…

LAist: No, you guys did such a good job.

Dakota: Yeah, there’s a lot of footage of them performing. When I first read the script I wasn’t familiar with who they were and who Cherie was. I had heard of Joan Jett and was familiar with her music, but not really “The Runaways.” So, I looked up their old videos and pictures of them and when I saw her perform “Cherry Bomb” I knew that I really wanted to do that.”

Melissa Rosenberg: Fred Meyer DVD Release Interview

melissarosenbergsigningMelissa Rosenberg gave a brief interview to KOMO News during the release party at the Fred Meyer store in the Seattle area.

How do you condense an 800-page book into a two hour movie?

MR: “Very carefully. You start with, and you end with, what is the emotional journey for these characters. That is the most important thing to capture, that is the only thing to capture. Everything else is up for grabs, but you must take these characters on the same emotional journey that they took in the book, and hence take the audience on the same emotional journey that they took in the book and that’s the goal, you hope that you achieve that. some people would say I did, some people would say I don’t.”

Do you get any feedback from the fans when you, for example.. cut certain scenes?

MR: “I have a fan site, and the fans will weigh in and say wow! you’ve cut too many things out.. or say I’ve done a fantastic job. They are very kind on my site, there are other sites I know that I don’t read, because I can’t handle that kind of intensity. You can’t make all the fans happy, you try to make as many as possible happy.”
