TWILIGHT INTERNATIONAL FAN EVENT

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: THE OFFICIAL ILLUSTRATED GUIDE

US/CANADIAN FAN SWEEPSTAKES ON THETWILIGHTSAGA.COM

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, a division of Hachette Book Group, will host a special International Fan Event, featuring Twilight fans from around the world.  Ten fans will be chosen to have a once-in-a-lifetime intimate meeting with international bestselling author Stephenie Meyer.  The event coincides with the upcoming release of The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide (April 12, 2011; $24.99).

Little, Brown is partnering with the Twilight Saga publishers in Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Taiwan and the United Kingdom to bring together each country’s respective Twilight fan.  The fan selected from each country will receive an advance copy of The Official Illustrated Guide and get to talk extensively with Meyer, who will answer their Twilight-related questions.

“The one thing I miss most about my first book tour was the chance I had then to spend quality time with my readers,” said Meyer.  “At an event with just ten or twenty people, I was able to get to know everyone a little bit.  I could also more effectively answer each person’s questions.  I’m so excited to have that opportunity again, and to get to spend time with fans from many different places and backgrounds.”

“We receive hundreds of travel requests for Stephenie from our foreign publishing partners every year,” said Megan Tingley, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.  “Since it is physically impossible for one author to be in so many places, we thought this would be a great way to bring some fans to her.”

The Official Rules for the sweepstakes to select the fan from the United States (as well as one from Canada), including entry details and eligibility requirements, can be found on TheTwilightSaga.com.

Due to the intimate nature of this event, details regarding the location and timing are being kept confidential.  Photos and additional details will be distributed upon the event’s conclusion.

The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide provides readers with exclusive new material and everything they need to further explore the unforgettable world Stephenie Meyer created in Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn and The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.  The Guide also includes character profiles, outtakes, a conversation with Meyer, genealogical charts, maps, extensive cross-references, and much more.  Originally announced as “The Official Guide,” The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide includes illustrations from several artists, including Young Kim, the illustrator behind the #1 New York Times bestselling Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1.

In five years, Stephenie Meyer has become a worldwide publishing phenomenon.  The Twilight Saga’s translation rights have been sold in nearly 50 countries and 116 million copies have been sold worldwide.

Twight Saga Books Take 3 Out of 5 Top Seller Positions in Scotland

BreeTannerAccording to the Daily Record, Twilight Saga books continued to be strong sellers in Scotland this year.

“The Oor Wullie Book: 2011 topped the chart ahead of Meyer’s The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.

The Guinness World Records 2011 was third while two other books from Meyer’s worldwide hit Twilight vampire series, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, were fourth and fifth.”

MTV: The Twilight Saga Year in Review

BreeTannerMTV recaps 2010 Twilight style:

“Last year we listed off the movies, TV shows and other pop-cult gems we were most excited for in 2010, and though the Wizarding World of Harry Potter got the top spot (come on, it’s a theme park), “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” was the movie we were most looking forward to. It’s been a big year for “The Twilight Saga,” and “Eclipse” definitely did not disappoint. As another year of “Twilight“‘s domination is about to begin, we figured now would be a good time to look back at the series’ biggest moments in 2010.”

Former Summit Board Member Called Out For Misrepresenting The Twilight Saga

Summit LogoNikki Finke from Deadline Hollywood has the scoop and the emails on this one. The long and short of it seems that there is a former Summit board member who is/was showing the movies to audiences at what were billed as charity screenings. At these screenings, actors associated with the franchise were solicited to appear. There were also set visits auctioned off without that were apparently without authorization.

According to Nikki Finke:

“Failure may be an orphan in Hollywood, but success has many fathers. I’ve learned that Summit Entertainment has sent a letter threatening legal action if this NYC-based businessman continues to “misrepresent that he’s involved in the ownership, management, decision-making, and operations” of Summit. Last time the studio warned him, he was claiming involvement with Summit’s New Moon and Breaking Dawn movies in the Twilight saga.”

See more details including the correspondence from the legal team and parties involved here.

It looks like the Summit legal team is pretty busy. Over the past year they have been/are currently involved in lawsuits stemming from people hacking into their photographer’s server and distributing unauthorized photos from Eclipse to stopping magazines from running photos for which they did not obtain the proper licensing.

White Twilight Saga Books Are Out

We told you about the Twilight Saga books getting a repackaging in the UK back in August. Instead of the iconic black and red they opted for white. You can actually have the items sent to the USA as Laura found out quite accidentally. She looked them up on her Amazon UK account when she first heard about them, and she saved them in her shopping cart so she could write the story. Well…you guessed it…she forgot to remove the items from her shopping cart, and now she has a set of the white UK books here in the USA.

The books came yesterday and there are a couple of noticeable items:

1. They are paperbacks and smaller in dimensions than the USA produced paperbacks.

2. They don’t have any wording on the covers, just the image associated with the book. No title, no author, nothing!

3. The pages are all edged in blood red rather than just the typical paper stock.

4. Only Twilight-Breaking Dawn is available, not Bree Tanner.

Check out Amazon UK and other UK retailers to get the books.

Twilight Sales Reached Saturation Point?

twilight-booksThe Daemon’s book blog has noted that Twilight sales have fallen off:

“For the first time in over three years, none of the books in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga are on USA Today’s top 50 Best-Selling Books list. At least one or more of the four books had been on the list since July 12, 2007 (170 consecutive weeks).

Breaking Dawn fell from the top 50 to number 54, Twilight is at 172, New Moon is number 238, and Eclipse is 198.

Meyer’s publicist tells USA Today that they expect to see a spike in book sales when the Breaking Dawn movie hit theaters in December[Lexicon note: article error on the author’s part, possibly they meant the Eclipse DVD]. Plus, Meyer is releasing The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide in April, and that is sure to put her back on the bestseller list.

Read more at Daemon’s books.

Three years is quite a solid run for any book to remain on a top 50 list. Most author’s would given their first-born just to make the list for a week.  A quick glance at the list reveals 8 YA/middle school titles on the list. Suzanne Collins has three titles on the list. So the good news is that those books which are not recognized on other lists are still strong sellers.

What do you think, have the books reached their inevitable saturation point, or will new books and movies bring and upswing?

Twilight Book Burning By Portland Vampires

Well, one of the great things about living in America is that you have to a large degree the freedom of expression (No yelling “fire” in a crowded theater, and all that.). Granted the above seems to be a theatrical-type street event, but in our opinion, it’s hard to see any book burned under any circumstance. It just brings to mind images of very unfortunate events in history. What’s your take?

Why Are Vampires Sucking In Female Fans

Arizona Central explores vampires from Bella Lugosi’s classic interpretation to current favorites like the vampires of True Blood and Twilight, and examines what has changed to spark the current interest. They talk about the common ties even though each mythology is different. (photo credit: Crystal Ochoa/The Arizona Republic)

“In business terms, the numbers are huge. The first three “Twilight” films, featuring Stephenie Meyer’s brooding teen vampires, have earned a cumulative $1.76 billion at the box office, according to the “Hollywood Reporter.” “True Blood” has emerged as HBO’s most successful show since “The Sopranos.” And in the publishing world, Meyer’s books have sold around 100 million copies.

“This particular subject seems inexhaustible at the moment,” says Jay A. Fernandez, who wrote about the business of vampires for the “Hollywood Reporter.” “If you really widen your gaze to the different types of pop culture, it’s endless.”
