LA Times: Why Eclipse at the LA Fim Festival Is A Good Idea

The LA Times breaks down exactly what is to be gained by having Eclipse debut at the Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF).

“The annual event, which announced its lineup on Tuesday, will feature the world-premiere screening of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” the long-awaited third installment in the popular vampire franchise. It’s not exactly typical film festival fare, but organizers are hoping it will serve a larger purpose.

“If we program a movie like ‘Twilight’ that draws audiences that might not otherwise attend film festivals, hopefully we’ll expose them to other cinematic experiences that we think are inspiring,” said festival director Rebecca Yeldham.”
The article goes on to talk about how you can get tickets to the festival, which can be quite pricey. On the other hand, given how much money we’ve seen people drop on all kinds of Twilight merchandise, maybe $500-$1,000 isn’t too much to spend for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Now if you can’t afford this but were planning on going to LA to camp out and line the red carpet, but are worried on how this is going to work at this new venue, don’t panic. All the fansite operators asked Summit a series of questions ranging from is camping out allowed, how many tickets are there, to what kind of access will there be to the red carpet. So as soon as we know, you’ll know.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn To Release Nov. 18, 2011

breaking_dawncoverHit Fix got the scoop on this one being rehashed around the twitter universe and entertainment blogs.

A Summit Entertainment spokesperson has confirmed to HitFix that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” will open nationwide on Nov. 18, 2011. It’s still officially unknown if “Dawn” will be broken up into one or, as rumored, two films.  Stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are all expected to return.”

Though media outlets that are less savvy than Hit Fix are talking about this being an odd delay, but in actuality it makes a lot of sense. Here’s why:

1.  Kristen Stewart, Christian Serratos, Robert Pattinson have all in various interviews alluded to the fact that they are free until late fall 2010. There’s some debate whether that means October or November 2010, but let’s just say later fall. Given how tightly New Moon and Eclipse were shot making it tougher for other projects, this longer hiatus gives stars of Twilight the opportunity to do other projects on TV and movies without a totally crazed schedule. Taylor Lautner, Kellan Lutz, and Ashley Greene have booked two movies, Peter Facinelli has one plus Nurse Jackie and the list goes on!

2. Though it’s unclear yet if it will be one or two movies (we are betting two and we’ll explain why in a second) there’s no possible way for the movie(s) to come out any sooner than Thanksgiving 2011. The movies take slightly over three months to shoot. So if we are talking one movie, that would be November-February figuring in some holiday breaks and weather delays. Now you need time to edit, to do CGI, to get a soundtrack and score. No way for that to happen effectively in time for either Memorial Day or July 3 so the best opportunity is to big the big name product at Thanksgiving or Christmas and in this case it’s Thanksgiving.

3. Question: Given this timing what else is in play that we are going to miss this summer? Answer: Comic Con. It seems highly likely that with a November release that the Twilight Saga will be back at Comic Con in summer 2011.  It won’t be there this year because the movie will already have been out for three weeks. So look out Comic Con Twilighters are coming back in 2011!

4. Assuming we are talking two movies (and we are speculating here) the second one would likely be a July 4, 2012 release. Two movies shot back to back would make it a six-month shoot. So that would mean November – April 2011 shooting. It gives ample time still for editing on film one and then on film two.

5. Lastly, why do we think it will be two? A couple of reasons. One, both Stephenie Meyer and Melissa Rosenberg have said they think there is enough material. Two, at a certain level Hollywood is about money and from a studio angle what studio wouldn’t want another multimillion dollar, sure fire hit? Lastly, there’s expanded point of view possibilities. Book three in Breaking Dawn is packed with information and other characters. We are imagining sequences of seeing these vampire allies being recruited, training of the Cullen supporters, Aro summoning his forces and plotting, watching how Jacob spills the beans to Charlie.  So, and again this is conjecture on our part, we see movie one ending with the birth of Renesmee and then movie two picking up from there. Nikki Finke agrees too.

So, given the information, what do you all think?

Random Thoughts On: Blogging, Microblogging, and Communication in the Electronic Age:

Lots of round and round good discussion today with several people on rumor, gossip, the role and future of online media, and where it may all go in the future.  So here are my thoughts in true Generation X style (AKA bullet-pointed because I was raise on MTV Sesame Street, which means I have a short attention span, I multi-task, and I skim until engaged by content).

~Newspapers in the US are closing at an alarming rate

~Magazine readership in hard print copy is down

~Online sites are reaching more and more people daily

~Whatever content you chose to put out there and in whatever form you chose to put it comes with the knowledge that people will love it, hate it, or could care less. Blogs are like children, as long as you aren’t breaking the law, no one should tell you how to run yours. At the same time, if people aren’t happy for whatever reason, they will vote with their feet and move to their own media to express their discontent. It’s basics rights and responsibilities.

~For years the New York Times has existed as well as The Weekly World News
Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons existed at the same time as Edgar R Murrow and  Walter Cronkite

~Today blogs exist from the Huffington Post, CNN, the Drudge Report to TMZ, The Awful Truth, and Lainey Gossip

~TV has everything from PBS to the Playboy Channel

~Movies have everything from Gone With the Wind to Debbie does Dallas

~Social media is so named because it reaches out and connects with people it has been used to reunite earthquake victims, fight the Iranian government, let the world know when I’m getting a latte, and sadly even tweet a famous author’s personal flight details

~For all the vast changes in technology over the last 100 years, basic human nature probably hasn’t changed that much, just the methods by which they receive their information has

~People still gossip, discuss, have opinions, get hurt by words and actions

So what am I saying? Even us lowly fansite bloggers have our range, let’s not throw all of us out with the proverbial bathwater because without us the fans wouldn’t be congregating the way that they do, connecting with people across the globe, meeting up with friends at conventions, and a million other positive things.  Without social media I wouldn’t have ever met four of the people I consider to be my best friends in the world. Thank God for forums, blogs, and for people who take the risk of putting themselves out there to see if anyone else is listening and to comment back.  It’s hard work, and the rewards for most of us aren’t ones you can put a price tag on.

Video: Kristen Stewart at the MET Gala

Last night Kristen Stewart was among many stars who attended the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art (AKA the MET) Costume Institute Gala to celebrate the opening of their new exhibit: American Woman:Fashioning a National Identity.

Depending on your angle the dress which was Chanel Haute Couture was either a big hit or a big miss with the fashion critics. Below are some pictures of the dress and a video of her actually walking in it which shows off the effect the bottom of the dress has.

So what do you think, is the dress a hit or a miss?

David Slade In the Future

Last night David Slade posted a series of comments on Twitter about what life would be like in the future. From our perspective it’ sort of a rant where Brave New World meets antagonized director microblogging. See for yourself:

“IN THE FUTURE artificial intelligence google apps will tell us whether we are indeed reading real news or just a blog.

IN THE FUTURE ai [Lexion note: we assume ai means artificial intelligence] apps will be grade online journalism for its accuracy, poignancy, grammar and quality of writing.

IN THE FUTURE online ai grading will lead to the demise of blogging and the new rise of quality journalism.

IN THE FUTURE actors will have tiny GPS trackers positioned all over their skin so they can act in performance capture anywhere they want.

IN THE FUTURE there will be no need for actors.

IN THE FUTURE there will be no need for directors.

IN THE FUTURE there will be no need for you or me. But we will still be here.

IN THE FUTURE painting will still be a dead medium, and people will still paint.

IN THE FUTURE our children will be born more intelligent than we could ever be.

IN THE FUTURE

IN THE FUTURE everyone will be happy all of the time.

IN THE FUTURE everyone will lie to each other each and every minute of the day, and everyone will know.

IN THE FUTURE there will be no context for anything, and nothing will be in context.

IN THE FUTURE there will be no shades of grey, just facts.

IN THE FUTURE no one will know anything, and everything will be subjective and all facts will be true, in every sense.

IN THE FUTURE, the future will be out of fashion.

IN THE FUTURE the future will be in fashion, but just for 15 minutes.

I give you THE FUTURE, and goodnight. DS
