Stephenie Meyer: In USA Today, Why Bree
Q: Bree only appears in a couple pages of Eclipse. What was it about the character that made you want to explore her story further?
A: In the beginning, I wasn’t fascinated specifically by Bree — it was the newborns in general. While I was writing Eclipse, there was a lot going on behind the scenes, of course, things Bella didn’t know about. Because I was focused on Bella, I couldn’t delve too deeply into the newborns’ story, however, there was always in my mind a general idea of what they were up to. I had to think about that while I was pacing the plot: Bella is at this point, the newborns are doing this. To keep it all straight, eventually I made a calendar of the months of May and June — which is all Eclipse deals with — and wrote down on each square what was going on with Bella that day and what was happening in Seattle. So the story of the newborns was always a big part of the story of Eclipse. And it made me kind of sad that there was no way to express any of that in the book.
Bree is the only newborn mentioned by name in Eclipse, the only newborn who has contact with the Cullens (aside from being killed by them), and the only newborn who encounters the Volturi in the clearing. She lives the longest, so she is the narrator who can tell the full story. She was a natural choice to chronicle the story of the newborns. Once I started writing from her perspective, she really came alive. So much so that, as the inevitable end got closer, it was really depressing going ahead. It was harder for me to kill Bree than any other fiction character I’ve ever killed, even though I was killing her for the second time. (Before Bree, the saddest was Walter in The Host.)

USA Today: Peter Facinelli and His Two Very Different Doctors
USA Today talks to Peter Facinelli about Coop from Nurse Jackie and Carlise from the Twilight Saga: how hard it is to play both during overlapping filming, who the real Peter would go to for medical care, and the changing of the scarf ritual in Eclipse.
“Dracula had his cape. But he has nothing on Peter Facinelli’s Carlisle Cullen and his scarves.
Given that members of the doctor’s makeshift family of vampires in the Twilight films are so batty for fashion that they tend to color-coordinate their ensembles with one another, it would make sense that their father figure would pay attention to his accessory choices. Even if there is always a threat of blood stains to consider.
But why exactly does the good doctor, who is more than three centuries old, have a yen for neckwear?
Says Facinelli, “I went to Catherine Hardwicke (the director of the first movie) and told her that Carlisle is a perfect gentleman and it would be interesting for him to wear scarves since they might have been in fashion at that time. Plus, after being bit on the neck, it might be a subconscious need to not have it exposed.”
So for Twilight and its sequel, New Moon, Carlisle almost always wore some sort of dangling swatch. However, the director of this summer’s Eclipse, David Slade, was not a big fan.
“He thought it was getting to be like Mickey Mouse ears,” says Facinelli of his signature apparel. But instead of just putting them in storage, the actor thought it might be better if he first made some sort of statement on-screen. “It’s a scene where I go to the werewolves for help. I take the scarf off. I wanted to show him standing before them naked and vulnerable.”
Luckily, Carlisle can always make a style statement with his Tweety Bird yellow hair”

Soundtrack Examiner Interviews Howard Shore
The Soundtrack Examiner interviewed the Academy Award winning composer of the Eclipse score, Howard Shore.
“In the last decade, Howard Shore is among the very few Hollywood film music composers to become a household name. Although he has been in the business since the 1970s and racking up over 80 film and television credits, Shore’s name rose to international stardom in 2001 when he carved the musical landscape for Peter Jackson’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Shore won three Academy Awards, three Golden Globes, and four Grammys just for those three films.
Since then, he has enveloped himself in the world of high drama, scoring such emotional (and suspenseful) rollercoasters as THE DEPARTED, GANGS OF NEW YORK, EASTERN PROMISES, A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, and EDGE OF DARKNESS, among many others.
Recently, he has added his name to another viciously famous franchise, THE TWILIGHT SAGA, providing the score to what will undoubtedly be a summer blockbuster, ECLIPSE. Shore has had his share of skeptics questioning his rationale for taking on such a project, but with one listen to the score, any doubt melts into the “twilight.”
The ECLIPSE score, at its core is a tumult of extreme emotions, where at any given time, it is simultaneously sincere, alluring, and terrifying. Shore makes extensive use of solo piano for character themes, displaying a naked vulnerability uncapturable by any other instrument. And his penchant for heaving violins and cellos are the earth Stephenie Meyer’s characters trod upon. ECLIPSE can pounce on you like a ravenous jaguar, cloud your judgment like a dense fog, or tantalize your senses with kaleidoscopic color-tones.
Howard Shore is a master of creating realms where nightmares and fantasy bleed together, and where beauty and the beast often inhabit the same body. While his time is strongly in demand, we did manage to obtain a bit of time to chat with the man who casts a twilight shadow on ECLIPSE!”

Jamie Campbell Bower cast as King Arthur
Screen Terrier is reporting that Jamie Campbell Bower will start filming a ten part TV series based on the story of Camelot. Bower will play King Arthur opposite Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere. The series is being produced by the same filmmakers who brought The Tudors to Showtime. We have no news if this is another Showtime series, but that’s what we’re guessing.
Xavier Samuel in GQ
As predicted, entertainment and media outlets have picked up on the fact that Xavier Samuel is the hot new face of the Twilight saga. He’s found his way into GQ with a new photo and interview.
You play Riley, a hungry newborn vampire out on a rampage. Full disclosure: I read the book, and Riley’s only on one page.
Yes, I was flipping through the book, thinking: Where’s Riley? He’s whittled down to one line. But in the film, we venture into the world of Riley and watch him assembling this newborn army. It’s more action-packed. And it gives me something more to do, thankfully.

Chicago Sun Times interview young cast members
The Chicago Sun Times interviewed Jodelle Ferland, Boo Boo Stewart, and Tyson Houseman recently about being added to the cast for Eclipse. (Even though Tyson was seen in New Moon, he didn’t really get to be a part of the action until Eclipse.) The Sun Times got target audience members to actually supply the questions.
Q. Have you read the whole Twilight series?
JODELLE: I’ve read all four of the books, and I absolutely love them. I really, really like Stephenie’s writing.
TYSON: I read them all after I got the part.
BOOBOO: I thought I might get an audition for the film, so I started reading the books. … I wanted to go in extremely prepared, you know?

Eclipse Soundtrack Review
We were lucky enough to get an advanced listen to the Eclipse Soundtrack and let me first start by saying that is in my humble opinion the best of the three. I know that is a big statement to make but this music is incredible. There is a very clear vibe to the soundtrack and it fits with that of Eclipse. Shelley (something blue) and I (Jen/be my escape) both reviewed the soundtrack and have created a favorite’s list. Essentially we each chose the songs we liked the most to talk about in detail.
Jen’s Choices
Heavy in Your Arms– Florence + The Machine– This is my absolute favorite song! The music, the lyrics, everything about it is just perfection. From the heavy drum and piano beats to the haunting voice of Florence Welch this song is intense and IMHO a fantastic Bella song. The lyrics just speak to Bella and what she is going through in Eclipse. I have absolutely no idea if it is a Bella song but to me it is. Listen to the second verse when you get it and let me know what you think! If you want to get a feel for the sound of the song check out Cosmic Love, so good.
My Love– Sia– Strings and piano, two of my favorite things, comprise the back drop for this beautiful song. I know Twilighters have been a fan of Sia for long time and they will not be disappointed. This song has a similar feel to Breathe Me but with a completely different meaning. Sia’s soulful voice brings the emotion of Eclipse to life.
Ours– The Bravery– This is the epitome of a graduation song or for some reason it reminds me of the song that would play over the credits of a movie, either way it is fantastic. I loved the tempo of the song
Shelley’s Choices
Fanfarlo’s Atlas is a fun and light song that reminds me a little bit of Shooting the Moon by Ok Go on the New Moon soundtrack. This song seems like the best fit for a more light hearted scene in the movie.
Eastern Conference Champions’ A Million Miles An Hour has darker tones as well, but with a more bluesy tone to the voice. I could definitely see this as a dangerous newborn tune.
The Black Keys Chop and Change is funky and a little creepy, kind of a funk mix. It just struck me upon my second listening that this must be a Rosalie after-the-change song. I really hope so! It certainly has that bad girl vibe. I love this song. (I loved this one too!)
Overall the Soundtrack is amazing and I can’t wait to see where all the music fits. Don’t forget for today only you can listen to the Eclipse Soundtrack check it out and tell us what you think. Which is your Favorite song??
