Since today is Memorial Day in the USA, we’d just like to say thank you to those that serve. On this day we thought we’d share two stories about what Twilight actors, who very quietly, without lots of press and glitz, did for the military families. The only reason we know about either event is that fans told us.
Two summers ago Michael Welch visited the overseas and donated his time to the USO and participating in a camp for military children whose parents were serving overseas.
The USO is a special organization. It provides, among other things, entertainment for our troops and their families. Anyone who is in the military can tell you that money is tight; servicemen do not make tremendous salaries. So, to have a Hollywood star come and entertain is quite the treat, especially when you are a continent away from home!
In talking about his visit, Michael Welch said “Traveling with the USO and meeting military families has been a new experience for me, and one that I will never forget. Hearing firsthand what it’s like to have a loved one deployed is humbling and it makes me realize how much military families sacrifice, and how grateful I am for their service.”
Another one of our favorite stories of all time, is when Peter Facinelli signed Twilight DVD’s at Fort Lewis and missed his plane because he refused to leave until every military family who wanted to see him had that chance.
Kudos to both Mike and Peter!
If you are into hockey, you may be aware of this YouTube channel called Runforthecube. The short version is that this guy mispronounces players names in this bizarre Pee Wee Herman meets Franck from Father of the Bride voice. His videos have very simple graphics and only last 5 seconds. You can see an interview detailing the history here.
Now that he is done with the entire NHL roster, yes you read that right…the entire NHL roster, he recently started mispronouncing requests of anything at $5.00 a video. So apparently someone requested Twilight Saga names…wait for it…79 of them. So doing some fast math, that means someone plunked down $395 for all of this to happen.
It takes a lot to make us say, “file that one under strange and bizarre” this one wins the prize this month.
Here are just a couple of these weird videos. You’re either going to laugh like crazy with a “OMG! this is genius” reaction, or you’re going to pot down your speakers because your dog has started howling and your ears are bleeding. In our opinion the Stephenie Meyer one is the best. You can get the entire collection here.
We had the good fortune to meet Taylor Lautner before all the Twilight hype struck and he was very down to earth. At the time he seemed like a typical high school kid. A writer for the examiner did the same thing only two years earlier. Here’s how the rediscovered interview went down back in 2005, three years before Twilight was a blip on Taylor Lautner’s Radar. The interview took place at a carnival inspired premiere of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in director Robert Rodriguez’s home state Texas.
Jack Dennis (JD): So what do you think of being at a carnival for a premiere?
Taylor Lautner (TL): Oh, it’s really fun. Everyone is having a good time and it’s so nice here. We are excited to be here meeting everyone. This was a good idea. It’s fun signing autographs and it’s nice to see the others. It is a fun experience.
JD: Who is asking for autographs more, the boys or the girls?
TL: (laughs) Mainly, uh, the boys. But, you know, I sign for the girls too. (Grins and laughs again). But it is kind of weird. I’m not use to it. It’s hard to believe they really want my autograph or picture, but it’s fun.
JD: What would you say you learned most from him[director Robert Rodriguez]?TL: (laughs) Well besides the 3-D stuff, I learned to be humble. Look at him. He’s wearing a cowboy hat, bright blue cowboy shirt and jeans with holes in them. He likes this big star director, but he is down to earth and a lot of fun. We all loved him.
Somehow we don’t think Taylor is signing for mostly boys these days! Read the rest at the Examiner!
Peter Faccinelli was at Comic Con in Chile this weekend. He was among several high profile guests such as Margot Kidder from the Superman movies and Billy Dee Williams from the Star Wars movies. In fact, Peter seemed in awe of being with Margot and Billy Dee since he is a fan of their movies.
This one flips to English right after the intro.
This next one is all in Spanish, but the pictures pretty much tell the story if you don’t speak Spanish.

Hypable has a story about a Romeo and Juliet reboot that is being shopped around Cannes, and the PR team is using actively courting what they call the Twilight Generation.
“It’s a classic story that we want every teenager in the world to come see,” Ileen Maisel, one of the film’s producers, told 24 Frames, adding that even though the dialogue retained Shakespeare’s flavor, it was uttered in “understandable iambic pentameter.”
Or as one of the film’s publicists put it: “This is ‘Romeo and Juliet’ for the Twilight Generation.”
