David Slade Sends Open Letter to Fans

David Sladeset

On the official Facebook page for the Twilight Saga movies, David Slade issued an open letter to fans. The Facebook page just reached the 6 million fan milestone.

Dear fans of The Twilight Saga,

I want to congratulate you for reaching over 6 million fans on The Twilight Saga Facebook page.

It’s hard to fathom that it was just over one year ago that I started constructing this third and epic adventure which takes place in the town of Forks.

I want to share a story about one of our days of shooting with you.

It was a Friday night and the rain was relentless. We were at La Push to shoot the tribe’s histories, a great speech by Billy Black. We had Taylor and Kristen and the whole wolf pack around a campfire as the heavens let loose on us.

Gil Birmingham was in fine form as the rain hammered down on us all, we adjusted our lights so that the rain vanished into the black of night.

We constructed a tent over the scene to keep everyone dry as we worked, every 15 minutes or so we would have to tip it to stop the collecting rain from splitting the fabric.

For some reason still unknown, around 3am, the wolf pack stood exactly in the way of several gallons of rainwater as it was being cleared. Being the wolf pack, they just laughed it off as they stood there soaked to the bone.

We worked through the mud and the rain all night, until we had the scene perfected.

As we left, dawn was now cracking and in the dim light I passed a small army of fans who had braved the weather for the entire night, still standing there, holding drenched flowers and waiting to get a glimpse of our actors.

So, to those of you who stood behind our security, who waited in line at theatres overnight, to those of you who just love these stories, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is a love letter to you.

Each day I felt the weight of your favourite scenes, your favourite lines, your dreams and your imagination.

It has been an unforgettable journey, and now as I finalise the last prints to ready the film for your local theaters, I cannot wait for you to see it.

Sincerest Regards,

DAVID SLADE

Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth Support make a Clean Differnce Program

peterfacinellifamilyAccording to the group’s press release:

‘The Procter & Gamble Company’s (NYSE: PG) Bounty® brand is teaming up with husband-and-wife duo Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth, along with dozens of local Los Angeles-area volunteers from HandsOn Network and Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation today to “Make a Clean Difference” at Los Angeles’ Kingsley Elementary School. Answering the call from President Obama for Americans to volunteer in the community, Bounty’s “Make a Clean Difference” program is uniting more than 1,000 volunteers to transform the learning environments of 30 public schools in 10 cities across the country.

“Twilight”-saga star Peter Facinelli and “90210’s” Jennie Garth are leading the team of community volunteers in tackling everything from lending extra hands to spruce up classrooms with a fresh coat of paint to planting flowers and gardening outdoor areas.

“Jennie and I are thrilled to be here in Los Angeles to join Bounty and all of the volunteers who have given their time today to truly make a difference in the lives of these young students,” said Peter Facinelli. “As parents of three daughters, we understand the importance of inspiring children in the classroom, and we are happy to be part of a program committed to improving their learning potential.”

Intended to encourage continued creativity in the classroom, Rush Philanthropic’s teaching artist volunteers also created a special mural that will remain on display at the school. Additional Los Angeles schools receiving a helping-hand from community volunteers include Aragon Elementary and Loreto Elementary on June 12.

The program, announced by Gabrielle Union at the Points of Light Institute and ServiceNation reception celebrating National Volunteer Week in Washington, D.C. on April 20, encourages local community volunteers to join Bounty in its commitment to help maintain the learning environments of schools across the country by getting them “Bounty clean.”

“We are thrilled to see the impact the volunteers have made here at Kingsley Elementary in Los Angeles today and pleased to provide a clean learning environment for students to unlock their creativity and curiosity,” said Dave Lee, Procter & Gamble North American Bounty Brand Manager. “We believe that messes should never get in the way of hands-on activity and learning and are pleased to have this opportunity to provide Kingsley with a fresh start for the next school year as this one winds down.”

Maintaining clean learning environments and providing volunteer services are the crux of Bounty’s “Make a Clean Difference” program. Research shows a link between the cleanliness of school facilities and students’ academic achievements, yet, 25 percent of all schools report at least one on-site building in less than adequate condition.(1),(2) Additionally, less than 33 percent of schools provide students with opportunities to bring learning to life through community service.(3)

In addition to Los Angeles, Bounty’s “Make a Clean Difference” program is impacting 30 public schools in the following cities from April through June: Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Cincinnati, OH; Dallas, TX; Miami, FL; Minneapolis, MN; New York, NY; and Seattle, WA. Kristen Stewart Apologizes For Poor Word Choice

kristen elleukPeople Magazine is reporting that Kristen Stewart has apologized for a poor choice of words in a recent interview in Elle UK where Kristen compared being hounded by the paparazzi to being raped. According to People, Kristen stated:

“I really made an enormous mistake – clearly and obviously,” Stewart, currently in Korea to promote the new installment of the Twilight series Eclipse, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “And I’m really sorry about my choice of words. I’ve made stupid remarks before, and I’ve always reasoned: ‘Whatever. They can think what they want,’ ” she says.

But in this instance, the Los Angeles-born actress feels compelled to address the situation. ” ‘Violated’ definitely would have been a better way of expressing the thought,” she notes.

In fact, the issue of violence against women is one that has been close to Stewart since playing a victim of rape in the 2004 film Speak. She has done public service announcements for the advocacy group RAINN and for SOC.

The irony of the situation in which Stewart now finds herself is not lost on the actress. “People thinking that I’m insensitive about this subject rips my guts out. I made a big mistake.”
