“Director Chris Weitz shot his new drama, A Better Life, released June 24, on location primarily in and around East Los Angeles. The film tells the story of a gardener and illegal immigrant (Demian Bichir) who is striving to keep his teenage son (Jose Julian) away from gangs. The movie follows the two as the father purchases a pickup truck to get ahead in business only to see it stolen.

“It’s an adventure about the father and son learning to speak to each other and getting to know each other as they go in search of this truck,” says Weitz.

During the course of the 38-day shoot, Weitz, the director of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and About A Boy (with his brother Paul Weitz), also discovered some of the area’s best places to eat, from authentic Mexican joints to one of the city’s most inventive Nuevo Latin restaurants. Photo: Kristen Stewart Donates Shoes To End Human Trafficking

This press release from Shoe Revolt:

While we sleep peacefully at night, down corner alleys, behind old buildings, and along abandoned railroads, horrible and unimaginable crimes are being committed against our youth.

Shoe Revolt has committed resources to educate the masses, stop traffickers, and heal victims of these human trafficking crimes, and now we are thrilled to announce a new strategy; a teen revolt. For teenagers who live in a stable environment, the issues of sex trafficking are distant; most youth have difficulty simply grasping the concept.

Many teenagers are unaware of what sex trafficking really entails and don’t understand that it is occurring on domestic soil.

These teens are not aware of the tricks and strategies that traffickers use to exploit and imprison youth like them against their will. Because this issue is so secretive and unimaginable, teenagers simply ignore it.

Shoe Revolt feels that teens can no longer be complacent; human trafficking affects the very freedom that the United States of America promises to them all. It is time to educate and get teens involved to start a teen revolt against human trafficking.

Why shoes and celebrities? For teens, this combination is an outlet. It’s a passion. Combining something that the youth of America loves is a simple, yet powerful way to begin a dialogue about this imperative issue.

A celebrity such as Kristen Stewart donating shoes helps us connect with all teenagers despite language, ethnic, and cultural differences. Shoe Revolt is incredibly thankful for Kristin Stewart’s donation of a pair of black Keds.

Her donations will be used to raise money for shelters and to create awareness about this issue in the teen community. We can eradicate the attack on our youth in the United States by spreading the word and getting teens educated. Trafficking affects thousands of teenagers each and every day and will never be stopped without education. Shoe Revolt will give teenagers the opportunity to understand sex trafficking, which will help keep them safe. Shoe Revolt is determined to create a teen revolt by reaching out and spreading the word about sex trafficking, one celebrity donated shoe at a time.

The auction itself hasn’t yet gone live, but we will update when it does.

The Host Movie Given Official Release Date

Los Angeles, CA, June 27, 2011 – Open Road Films has acquired U.S. distribution rights to “The Host,” the big screen adaptation of Twilight series author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel. As previously announced, “The Host” will be directed by Andrew Niccol (“Gattaca”), who also wrote the screenplay, and will star Saoirse Ronan (“Hanna,” “The Lovely Bones,” “Atonement”). Open Road Films has set a March 29, 2013 release date (Easter weekend) for “The Host.”

“The Host” producers are Nick Wechsler, Chockstone Pictures’ Paula Mae Schwartz and Steve Schwartz, and Stephenie Meyer. Marc Butan, Jim Siebel, and Bill Johnson of Inferno Entertainment, which is handling international sales, are executive producers. Claudia Bluemhuber of Silver Reel, which is providing mezzanine financing, is also an executive producer. Roger Schwartz and Lizzy Bradford are co-producers.

Principal photography is scheduled to being in February 2012 in Louisiana and New Mexico, in anticipation of the wide release on March 29, 2013.

“The Host” is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

The Host, published in 2008, was Stephenie Meyer’s highly anticipated follow-up to the wildly popular and acclaimed Twilight series. The book was #1 on The New York Times Bestseller List for 26 weeks. The “Twilight” film franchise, based on Stephenie Meyer’s beloved and best-selling novels, has grossed over $1.4 billion in worldwide box office ticket sales to date.

Regarding Open Road Films, Stephenie Meyer’s stated, “I’m thrilled to be adding another fantastic partner to an already amazing group. Everyone involved has so much passion for the project. It really is a dream team.”

“We are privileged to partner with Stephenie Meyer and the rest of the filmmaking team for the release of ‘The Host,” added Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films. “Nick Wechsler is a terrific producer and a long time friend and we are honored to be working with Nick and Stephenie – and the wonderful minds of Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz – to bring this epic story of hope to the big screen.”

Producers Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz commented, “We are excited about the passion that Tom Ortenberg and Open Road Films has shown for ‘The Host,’ and we think this is a great opportunity to be partnered with AMC and Regal at the beginning of their new joint venture.”

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by Ortenberg, General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Operations and Business Affairs, Elliott Kleinberg, and Senior Vice President of Acquistions Ben Cotner. Rena Ronson of UTA’s Independent Film Group and David Fox of Myman Greenspan Fineman Fox Light LLP, along with Philip Strina of Inferno, negotiated on behalf of the filmmakers.

Guri Weinberg Updates Blog and Explains Inside Running Joke

If any of you have been as confused as we were with the GFYS references between various members of the Breaking Dawn cast, wonder no more. Guri Weinberg explains it all on his blog. The section where he gets Stephenie Meyer in on the action is particularly funny:

“When you’re shooting on location for 5 months, you come up with some pretty juvenile inside jokes, catchphrases and pranks. For example, what started as three extremely tired actors getting exceptionally silly while grocery shopping at Whole Foods turned into an elaborate game between myself, Lee Pace and Christian Camargo wherein one of us would, at any time or place, kick one of the others in the shin as hard as we could and then run away.

But that’s another blog.

My Twitter Followers know that there is currently a GFYS game playing out in real time – started by Charlie Bewley, who was quickly joined by Daniel Cudmore, Patrick Brennan and Toni Trucks in the GFYS Guri Weinberg campaign. Bewley and Brennan dropped out, Cudmore took the lead andTrucks keeps the pressure on. Thus, the name of this blog. Hey Cudmore and Trucks…if you’re reading this…this blog will have your names and GFYS combined on a Google search soon! It’s GFYS 2.0

But WHAT is GFYS?”
