Twilight Saving Forks From Economic Downturns

According to the Puget Sound Business Journal:

““Twilight” tourism is widely credited for shielding Forks merchants from the recession, and state sales-tax data support that view.

Taxable retail sales statewide fell 15 percent to $100.8 billion between 2007 and 2009, according to data gathered by the state Department of Revenue. We have the recession to thank for that.

But in the city of Forks, taxable retail sales during the same period increased 15 percent to $46.2 million. In fact, Forks’ taxable retail sales in 2009 are the city’s highest in the Department of Revenue’s online database, which goes back to 1994. We probably have “Twilight” to thank for that.”

Much of this money is going to much needed renovation. The oldest portion of Forks High School that was built back in the 1920’s and which has been a complete nightmare to heat efficiently is now being torn down and a new building (where kids won’t have to wear coats in the winter) will be erected.

Jen Yamato Explains Twilight 101 To a Nonbeliever

This is THE most hilarious thing like this I have ever read, and the non-Twihard is actually not really obnoxious. It’s absolutely worth the read!

“Dave: Okay! So let’s talk about GREEN HORNET! I’m ready!

Jen: Uhhhh, Dave?

Dave: Okay! So let’s talk about EAT PRAY LOVE!

Jen: Well, that’s not exactly the romantic epic I was thinking about.

Dave: Okay, I am now ready to talk about ENTER THE VOID!

Jen: That’s not it, either — although if Bill Condon gets creative he could take a very interesting cue from Enter the Void for the birthing scene in his 2011 sequel The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. So… let’s talk TWILIGHT!

Dave: Why do I have to wait through Eclipse to get to the part where she has a monsterbaby?

Jen: Because all good things come to those who wait. Sometimes, those things are bloody, gory child birthings of half-human, half-monster babies. You know, they made Eclipse to be more action-packed than the previous two Twilight films, with plenty of vampire-on-vampire-on-werewolf violence. In other words, it’s kinda-sorta-almost your kind of movie!”

Collider Interviews David Slade

Collider is back with another great interview. Here are the highlights:

David Slade

  • I ask about the unique shots and the close-ups.  Did he design the look before he got on set or did he do more of it while there.  Talks about how the film needed to have a cinematic vocabulary
  • 2:50 – Twitter questions – I ask him about the meadow scene.  When he was filming the scene, was he aware it meant so much to so many fans.  Talks about how Stephenie Meyer’s was there a lot on set a lot.
  • 5:00 – Home video question.  What deleted scenes will be on the DVD/Blu-ray.  Talks about the one of the scenes that was cut.  He says the scene was 2 or 3 minutes alone and he think it may be as many as 5 minutes of deleted scenes coming
  • 6:30 – Commentaries on the DVD?  He says he won’t be doing one and explains why.
  • Talks about how he literally just finished the film the night before this interview
  • 7:48 – What is he doing next.  Says he is definitely not doing The Shadow

UK Teen Wins Trip of a Lifetime To Interview the Trio

Fourteen-year-old Shannon Waters from Swindon is the envy of millions of Twilight fans everywhere after spending the day interviewing teen heart throbs Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in LA ahead of the UK release of the third film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on 9th July.

LOVEFiLM, Europe’s largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the internet and sending DVDs by post, and E1 Entertainment gave UK fans just hours to explain why they deserved to go to LA to meet the A-list celebs. Fourteen year-old Shannon was picked from thousands of entrants across the UK after winning over the judges by explaining how the Twilight characters have given her the confidence to be herself.

Just 48 hours after entering the competition, LOVEFiLM flew Shannon and a chaperone to a four star LA hotel where she could regain her composure before meeting the trio.

Shannon interviewed each of her idols and was able to ask Kristen how it feels to be a role model for young girls, quiz Robert about his favourite scenes before asking Taylor about his connections with his character Jacob.

Shannon commented: “When I found out I’d won the competition I was so excited, it didn’t feel real at all. Kristen, Robert and Taylor were all so nice and I got to ask them lots of questions about their characters – Robert is still my favourite. LA was amazing and it all feels like a dream.”

Shannon and her Aunt spent a few days taking in the sights of LA then flew back to the UK to tell her friends and family about her once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Helen Cowley, Editor at LOVEFiLM commented: “It’s clear to say that the Twilight films and books have had a profound effect on fans. Shannon’s entry was really incredibly heartfelt, having told us how Kristen’s portrayal as Bella has helped her become more confident in herself.”

“It was fantastic to be able to literally make someone’s dreams come true and Shannon had an amazing time. Kristen, Robert and Taylor were a lot of fun and really enjoyed chatting to her about the film.”

Shannon got to interview Kristen, Taylor, and Rob. The Rob video is particularly adorable.

Movieline: Melissa Rosenberg and Working With Bill Condon

Movieline talked to Melissa Rosenberg about her history with the franchise and her thoughts on Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon:

“How much have you been privy to the directors that Summit wants to hire?
I get a few inside tracks, but I’m mostly out of that process. There’s a couple where I was like, “Oh no. God. Don’t choose them.”

What did you think when you heard they were looking at Gus Van Sant and Sofia Coppola for Breaking Dawn?
Summit’s a really creative place. They reach out — I mean, they found me. Not that I’m not creative or anything, but they found me in television. They don’t have to get that guy who wrote Iron Man. They had Catherine, they had Anne Fletcher on Step Up… they’ll break new directors or writers according to their own creative tastes. But honestly, when they were talking about Sofia Coppola and Gus Van Sant, I was like, “Really? For [movies] 4 and 5, we’re going to get people of that level?” And then they got Bill Condon, and I was like, “Man, this isn’t going to be just blowing off the last two in the series. They want these to be good. Oh my gosh, I’d better step up!” [Laughs]”
