Eclipse Staffing Change

EW reported a staffing change on the Eclipse behind the scenes team.

“Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the uber-successful Twilight series, confirmed this morning that it has replaced Eclipse editor Art Jones with Nancy Richardson, the editor of Catherine Hardwicke’s original Twilight film. The studio is not placing blame on Jones, who previously worked with Eclipse director David Slade on his horror film 30 Days of Night as well as Slade’s Ellen Page-starrer Hard Candy. They do believe, however, that Slade’s material – which they call “very good” – needed a stronger edit. The studio has more confidence in Richardson, who they say understands the emotion of the characters and is an ace at balancing action with the other elements of the film.”

We checked out Art Jones’ resume on the IMDB.  Counting Eclipse, he has worked as an editor on five films in total. Two are short films. Short films generally run no more than thirty minutes and, more often than not, they run under twenty. His full-length film work is limited to movies that David Slade has directed: Hard Candy, and Thirty Days of Night.

We also checked out Nancy Richardson’s resume on the IMDB. Nancy has worked on over 30 productions in movies and TV. She has served as an editor, foley editor (sound specialty), and consultant.  She’s worked with Catherine Hardwicke and Greg Nava on multiple projects as well as a variety of other people.

We sat on this story for 24 hours to see if industry insiders like Nikki Finke might weigh in, and so far no other industry insider is commenting. That’s a little unusual if there was some kind of behind the scenes turmoil.  Lots of Monday morning quarterbacking going on about this on various fansites ranging from grand conspiracy theory to amicable parting of ways, but industry insiders seem pretty quite.  So, take it for what it is, your guess is as good as ours. It’s going to be interesting to see if anything new develops here.

Twilight at the Oscars

fandomheartsIt’s been no secret that there is a strong Twilight presence at this year’s Oscars. Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart are both presenting and Anna Kendrick is nominated as Best Supporting Actress for Up In the Air.  It looks like that producers wanted an even bigger pop culture match up, but it didn’t quite work out. According to the LA Times:

“The producers said they feel a certain momentum surrounding the movie industry this year and are keen to make the show as widely appealing as possible. This means doing things like bringing in teen sensations Miley Cyrus, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to present. (The pair even wanted ” Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling and “Twilight” scribe Stephenie Meyer to present the adapted screenplay category, but Rowling was unavailable because of scheduling conflicts and Meyer, who is a Mormon, does not work on Sundays.)”

Too bad the Oscars are on Sunday and JK Rowling’s schedule didn’t work out.

Jacob Black Barbie Design Flaw

jacobbarbieoops2One of the things we love about John Henson who has created the Twilight Costume Collection (filled with actual and replica costumes from the movies) is John’s attention to detail. Seriously nothing, and we do mean NOTHING gets by John. He wants things down to the lining in the jacket to be correct.  If you doubt us just ask him about Bella’s St. Jude’s bracelet and you will get a whole lesson in beads, pictures, stringing etc.

John is also the mastermind who designed the costumes for the Hillywood Show’s New Moon parody. John even has a bit part in the video where he plays the tattoo artist. He was so well camouflaged we didn’t even realize that it was him at first!

Anyway, John came to us with a very interesting piece of information the other day. John wrote, “I’m not sure if you’ve seen it or if it’s been brought to your attention, but Mattel’s new “Jacob Black” doll has his Quileute tribal tattoo painted UPSIDE DOWN on his arm. I noticed it when the first prototype pictures were being posted on the internet, and I didn’t call Mattel because I figured that EVERYTHING would change on the actual consumer model. WRONG! I picked up two dolls for the collection yesterday and I was a bit miffed. I can see the oversight…the tattoo is very complex and when your dealing with a replica that’s 1/4” scale…blah blah. correcteyes2So…. I called Mattel this morning. I talked to a lovely gal named Linda who took all of my information. I told her how important this little detail is to the fans and she’s getting the query to the “engineers” immediately. So…feel free to post this information so everyone can run out and buy this initial run of Jacob dolls…it was a limited supply run and now with this error they might be little investments for the future!!!”

So far Mattel hasn’t called back. it will be interesting to see it they fix this in the next run, as John says the “flawed dolls” could be a collectible.
