Congratulations to Gil Birmingham for Rango’s OSCAR Win

Gil Birmingham was among the many talented artists who voiced characters in the animated film Rango that won Best Animated Feature at last night’s OSCAR ceremony. Gil’s character is the one in the poncho featured in the photo.

Below you can see Gil rehearsing with the cast.

The Twilight OSCAR Connection

Today the Academy Award nominations were read, and there are Twilight connected actors, directors, and films in the mix.

This morning, The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence doled out the 2012 Academy Award nominations, and while none of the Twilight Saga castmembers or filmmakers were directly nominated, there were a few nods of interest to Twilight fans.

For starters, in the Best Picture category, two Twilight castmate films were picked – The Help, which stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“Victoria” in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), and Midnight In Paris, which stars Michael Sheen (“Aro” – Volturi). Midnight In Paris also received several other nominations, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Director.

Check out more connections on Twilight Examiner.

Also shout out to Gil Birmingham who is in Rango, a great animated film that isn’t on the Examiner’s list.

Oscar Twilight Musical Spoof

The consensus on Twitter was that it wasn’t that great, or at least not the mind-blowing and must watch item that was described earlier in the week. What’s your take?

Overheard on the OSCAR Red Carpet

MTV graciously allowed us to embed their Red carpet footage. We caught some Twilight related moments on MTV and other live feeds:

  • Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine talked about liking soundtrack work. She was asked if she’d be interested in doing the Breaking Dawn soundtracks and she ducked the question saying that she hadn’t been asked yet. It’s a little early to talk soundtrack yet and she may want to, but not want to jinx it by saying yes.
  • Amy Adams talked about liking working with Kristen Stewart in On the Road which will be released later in 2011.
  • Ryan Seacrest, on his live feed, claimed to be Team Wolfpack
  • Ryan Seacrest also confirmed with James Franco that there will be a Twilight musical number as one of his inbetween awards skits that he and Anne Hathaway have planned. Who knows maybe Robert Pattinson will jump out of a giant cake or something 🙂
  • Reese Witherspoon said to ABC that she was Team Edward.

TY again to MTV for letting us access their live feed.

Red Carpet: MTV OSCAR FEED

Come back later today around 6:00 and we will have the MTV red carpet OSCAR feed embedded here. MTV and MTV’s Hollywood Crush have been asking for questions for the stars on Twitter.

We asked them to ask James Franco about his rumored Twilight spoof musical production up at Yale. We’re also curious if he and co-host Anne Hathaway will confirm that they are doing a Twilight spoof during the show.

No Twilight actors are presenters, but some are in Los Angeles this weekend. You never know who ends up walking the carpet, or as someone’s date.

Twilight Goes to the Oscars 2011

Unlike last year when Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart were presenters, there are no Twilight cast members among the presenters. Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood has a rough outline of the show from skits to who is singing and presenting. According to Nikki Finke here’s the only connection(and yes, it’s a stretch) as far as we can see:

“Florence (of Florence And The Machine) will perform with A.R. Rahman the 127 Hours song “If I Rise”

Check out Nikki Finke’s full report here.

Now, where there may be a Twilight reference is in the multiple comedy bits that Anne Hathaway and James Franco have planned in the show run. This seems to be confirmed by an OSCAR  producer in this video found by the Twilight Examiner Amanda Bell. and and James had this whole collection of spoof commercials and Internet videos they’ve done leading up to the ceremony (our favorite is below). Given James Franco’s Twilight obsession, that’s probably how it’s going to go down.

Where to Spot Twilight Stars in Awards Shows in 2011

It’s Awards Season, and the People’s Choice Awards just kicked things off last night.  Here is a list on where you can expect to see Twilight cast members in the near future.

Golden Globe Awards: Robert Pattinson has been tapped as a presenter, no idea for what, but he’s on the list of those attending. According to the official site , “The show once again will be broadcast nationwide live on NBC, in HD, Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 (PST)/8:00-11:00 (EST) from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. ” Expect more presenters to be announced as we get closer to the show.

BAFTA Awards (AKA the British Academy Film and Television Awards). Last year Kristen Stewart won their Rising Star Award. It’s traditional for the previous year’s winner to present the trophy to this year’s winner. It hasn’t been officially announced(BAFTAs tend not to announce their presenters, but the info kind of leaks out) , but look for Kristen to make an appearance.  They also tend to try for the brightest stars from the UK to present on the show. Look for Robert Pattinson (who presented an award last year) and Michael Sheen as strong candidates for presenters. Another BAFTA possibility is Welcome to the Riley’s director, Jake Scott, getting nominated in the Outstanding Debut of a British Writer, Director, or Producer category. The show takes place February 13th, look for award nominees to be announced on January 18th.

The Oscars last year Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner co-presented as part of producer Adam Shankman’s efforts to youthenize the show and make it more fun.  With a film like Water for Elephants (that is getting early buzz as 2012 contender) coming out next year that co-star OSCAR winners Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson might end up as a co-presenter. Another one to look out for is last year’s nominee Anna Kendrick to be tapped as a presenter. The show airs February 27th, and nominees will be announced on January 25th.

These are just the awards in the winter. Once Spring and Summer hit we enter the MTV award season: VMA’s, Movie Awards, etc. You know there will be a heavy cast presence there beyond the trio of Robert Kristen and Taylor.
