Mike Welch On Stage In LA

Mike Welch is going to be in the cast at the annual Young Playwrights Festival in Los Angeles. Mike last did a stint on stage back in the fall with closing night being the night before the Twilight movie premiere, which was why he showed up as a brunette at the premiere.

According to a recent festival press release: “Since 1993 this competitive festival has supported and encouraged up-and-coming young playwrights from around the country. The festival is develops and produces plays and musicals by playwrights under the age of 19. The winning playwrights plays are developed, rehearsed, and performed on stage by professional actors. The festival’s artistic directors are Daniel Henning and Noah Wylie.”

Past actors in the festival have included Chris Pine, Sarah Michelle Geller, and Debra Messing to name a few.

Mike Welch Owes Taylor Lautner & Kristen Stewart

According to Mike Welch, he owes it entirely to Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner that he has added screen time in New Moon.

“Kristen [Stewart] and Taylor [Lautner] had to lobby to get this one scene in the film that wasn’t originally in — and I am forever indebted to them for that,” revealed Mike Welch, citing a beloved moment from Stephenie Meyer’s “New Moon” novel. “There’s a scene that’s in the book, the three-way date between Jacob and Bella and Mike, where Mike ends up getting sick, and it’s just very awkward.”

About.Com: Mike Welch, Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz

About.com was on the red carpet at the MTV movie awards and got a bunch of New Moon stars to comment.

Mike Welch

Talk about the fans – how are you handling this? All you have to say is Twilight and they start screaming.

Michael Welch: “They are incredible. I live in LA, I grew up here, it’s not that crazy for me because it’s LA, you know? When I go outside of LA, no matter where it is, really anywhere I go, people will be stopping me or taking pictures or whatever it is. And it’s great. It’s amazing. I’m just lucky. I know it’s not me it’s that I’m lucky to be a part of this thing. No, I mean I do what I do. But it’s just great. I couldn’t be more grateful about it.”

Kellan Lutz

So how was Chris Weitz as a director?

Kellan Lutz: “Amazing. So chill. Being an actor in the second movie with all the weight off of your shoulders was really fun to look forward to. And then working with such a chill, mellow director – he was just so much fun to work with. So easygoing. And he had everything planned out so whenever we had a question as an actor, especially with our characters or the scene, he had answers right away.”

Peter Facinelli

How different is it going to be from Twilight?

Peter Facinelli: “You know, I think there’s a lot more action in there. It’s going to hopefully appear more epic, more studio-like, you know?”

More studio-like? How do you mean?

Peter Facinelli: “Well, the original… Twilight was more of an indie film so it kind of felt like, when you looked at it, it felt like a smaller budget. This one I think it will feel like there was more money on the screen. I think that more money will go towards the CGI stuff, which needs to be because there is a lot more CGI stuff in New Moon with the werewolves and stuff. And you know, whenever you have two directors that are different you can’t ask… Catherine [Hardwicke’s] an artist, you know? You know you can’t ask someone to paint the same picture. They’re going to paint their own picture and try to keep it in the realm of the story…”

Mike Welch to Star in Jason Epperson Debut

“We must be living right…we just landed one of the biggest new stars in Hollywood for the Lead in our film.  Michael Welch was one of the stars in last year’s biggest films “Twilight”…”

Michael Welch: Movie Premiere

Michael Welch was joined on the red carpet by Twilight buddies Justin Chon and Christian Serratos for the premiere of his film Lost Dream. TY to Jill and Vescara(photos)

“Set to grace the screen on May 7th at the Stanley Kramer Theater in Hollywood, Lost Dream is a timely story about the fading American Dream that stars Michael Welch and Shaun Sipos. Producer Mae Nekoba offered, “When casting our two leads we found two of the most impressive up-and-coming actors in the city.”

Michael Welch of Twilight and Joan of Arcadia, plays Perry, a privileged, young intellectual battling against his destiny not wanting to follow in his father’s political footsteps. Perry at this challenging crossroads in his life meets Giovanni, played by Shaun Sipos of The Grudge 2 and Comeback Season, an artist in search of his own voice. Giovanni represents a side that Perry desires providing a tumultuous friendship inducing a suicidal realm of self-discovery. Together, with the guidance of writer/director Ahmed, these two young actors crafted performances that carried the film through its dramatic highlights.

Writer/director Asif Ahmed conceived Lost Dream while attending college. The original script served as his senior thesis and still reflects the alienation and youthful yearning so many young people experience during this period; all set against the universal themes of political, social, and personal evolution.

Patricia Richardson (Home Improvement, Strong Medicine) also co-stars along with Jeremy Lond”
