Frances Fisher and William Hurt Confirmed as The Host Cast Members

Stephenie Meyer just updated her website today with this bit of The Host Casting news.

The Host begins filming this coming Monday the thirteenth, and I am so excited. It’s somewhat of a dream to have the creator and director of my favorite sci-fi film (Gattaca) helming this movie. I love the script he’s written, I love his beautiful vision, and I love working with him.

I also can’t say strongly enough how thrilled I am with our cast. The talent involved is unbelievable. We’ve been so blessed/lucky/kissed-by-fate all throughout the casting process. Wanda/Melanie is a very complicated role, and for a long time one of our biggest worries in the producer camp was finding an actress who could bring those two distinct personalities to life. And then Saoirse came along and we all quit worrying. If you’ve never had the pleasure of watching her act, I highly recommend her recent release, Hanna. Actually, watch her in anything she’s done and you’ll see what I mean. After Saoirse joined us, amazing actor after amazing actor signed on until none of us could believe our good fortune. Just the other day I got to meet William Hurt (!!) in full Jeb beard and hair, and it kind of choked me up. He looks amazing—they all look amazing!—and I can’t wait to see them in action next week.

Another incredible addition to our cast—one which I believe I’m the first to announce—Maggie will be played by the wonderful Frances Fisher. Welcome, Frances, I couldn’t be happier that you’ve chosen to join us!

Frances Fisher is probably best remembered as playing Kate Winslet’s mother in Titanic.

The Breaking Dawn DVD Review

Thankfully this isn’t like New Moon where we had to buy three versions just to get all the extras! The DVD’s are basically the same content no matter who you order it from it’s the packaging perks that are different. Though the Walmart version also has Bruno Mars and Chritina Perri videos on it ( hit youtube and you can see those as they have been out for months)

So, help out your fellow Twilight fans who haven’t run to the store or online yet.

Which DVD/blu-ray did you buy?

Which retailer did you get it from?

One thing we realized this morning was that the Blu-ray special edition (the one with the packaging that matches the special editions from the other films)was only available from Target online. You could get the basic blu-ray in the store.

Also what is your favorite part in the extras?

Walmart versions
—Perk= fabric poster on the wedding dressing version

Target versions
—-Perk=prop flower used at wedding in collectors tin collectors edition

Version available any place

Breaking Dawn Clip From Target Viewing

Hopefully there will be a high def version released by Summit/Lionsgate sometime soon. In the meantime this is as good as it gets.

You want to fast forward to around the 3 minute mark or so.

Pat Robertson “Twilight Opens the Door to the Demomic”

Normally we try not to editorialize too much around here, but we have very little patience for this. Get a grip, it’s fantasy as are Harry Potter, The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Circle (shameless plug for The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle Podcast some of out staff do for Hypable), Snow White, Game of Thrones, Hansel and Gretel…the list goes on. Being demon involved from watching/reading Twilight is about as likely as becoming the next big supermodel from wearing a bikini. Simply put the direct cause and effect isn’t there, there’s a lot more in play.

What’s your feeling on these warnings that Twilight (or any sci-fi/fantasy) leads to the occult?

Breaking Dawn Part 2 Trailer to Run Exclusively in Front of Hunger Games

This is a bit of a new one. Usually movie studio have gone with putting their trailers not only in front of films of similar demographic interests, but since around 2000 or so they have also put them online. Gone were the days when you paid from a crappy movie just to see the trailer of something you did want to see. If we are reading this article correctly, it looks like Lionsgate (which recently acquired Summit) is going to exclusively debut the trailer for Breaking Dawn part 2 in front of The Hunger Games.

From our experience this shouldn’t be too much of an issue since Twilight fans (at least from what we can tell in our user comments on the blog and forum) actually want to see The Hunger Games. They are either major fans already or have heard enough about it from current fans and seeing the trailer that they are curious enough to go. It’s not like what summit tried back with New Moon which was to put the trailer in front of Bandslam (remember that) which just about no one wanted to see no matter what the incentive.

Here’s what the LA Times had to report:

The trailer for the fifth and final “Twilight” movie, “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” will debut exclusively on “The Hunger Games” in March — the first significant example of synergy between Lions Gate Entertainment and its new subsidiary Summit Entertainment.

When the studio acquired Summit in January, Lions Gate executives touted the opportunities that would come from bringing together two of Hollywood’s hottest young adult franchises. Because fans tend to get excited about seeing the first trailer for a highly anticipated sequel, Lions Gate is betting it can bring the huge base of “Twilight” fans to the opening weekend of “The Hunger Games,” which debuts March 23.

“‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2’ trailer will debut exclusively on every ‘Hunger Games’ print on its opening night for what will be Lions Gate’s largest release ever,” Santa Monica-based Lions Gate’s chief executive Jon Feltheimer said on a conference call with analysts Friday following the release of its financial results.

So will you be seeing The Hunger Games, and are you going to see it just for the Breaking Dawn 2 trailer, or would you have seen it anyway?

Twilight Saga DVD Retropective: What Are the Highs and Lows

In her column for Movies.com, Laura explores the history of the Twilight Saga DVD’s. Which are the fan favorites, stand-out moments, and what is missing.

The one item that fans seem to universally want is actor commentary by the three leads: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. The original Twilight DVD featured commentary by director Catherine Hardwicke, Pattinson, and Stewart. All of them were relative rookies in the commentary process at that time. There was a refreshing honesty in the playful banter and downright quirkiness that went on. It wasn’t canned, and it embraced the cheesier moments of the film. Pattinson’s self-deprecating comments such as, “Looking scary with a baseball outfit on and a little bouffant, you know, it just does not work. Especially with sculpted eyebrows … I’m really scary in reality…” endeared fans to him all the more. People felt as if they were watching the film with their friends commenting.

Taylor Lautner in Company Magazine Preview

The full interview is out in the issue that release on Sunday. Digital Spy has this preview:

“It can be difficult. But now I’m used to the screaming and the occasional grabbing,” Lautner said. “The first time it ever happened I was like, ‘WOAH! What’s going on? Why are they screaming? Why are they touching me?’

“But now I get the fans’ passion. We understand it so it’s not that crazy to us anymore. I just have to be more strategic about where I go, so I don’t go to the hippest restaurants at the busiest times, and I try not to tweet before I go.”

Discussing time spent in London, the 19-year-old said: “I’ve been there three or four times, but it’s always flying straight in and out on promotion for a film. This time I’m here a bit longer, so I’m going to hit up Rob [Pattinson] about where I should go. I’ve heard there are some great restaurants, so I’m really looking forward to trying them.”

Admitting to being a fan of British girls, he added: “The British accent is definitely not a negative!”

Chaske Spencer and Tinsel Korey Reflect Back on Their Twilight Movies

Chaske and Tinsel were in the Philly area to promote the Breaking Dawn DVD. Here are some interview highlights.

Weirdest fan request: To howl. And no, they don’t, often suggesting a younger cast member will, though.

The franchise’s appeal:“We have fans all the way from 6 to 66 and what I think it is, is it brings you back to that first time of falling in love. Those emotions are extremely heightened, and I think that holds a really dear memory for a lot of people and I think that’s why it’s resonated with such a wide audience,” the actress said.

His co-star, however, quipped, “I think it also has a lot to do with Taylor’s abs and Rob’s hair.”

The final film: Neither has seen it. “I think they’re still in post-production at the moment. I don’t think they even have a soundtrack,” Korey said.

Staying in shape: As Sam, Spencer has to appear shirtless in many scenes, alongside Taylor Lautner, no less.

“It meant a lot of hard work, it actually kind of sucked. It meant hitting the gym hard, watching what I ate, a pretty good strict diet,” and mustering the discipline to do it and maintain it.

“It’s very hard to do. Some people are born with it, some people use other substances to enhance, but when you have to do it naturally, it sucks.” And when shooting was over, he treated himself to Johnny Rocket milk shakes — “all of them, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, Oreo.”

When they knew “Twilight” was a sensation: It came for Korey in a bookstore when she turned around and saw the face of Bronson Pelletierwho plays Jared, a member of the wolf pack.”I looked and it was all this wolf pack merchandise, and it was so surreal because I know them and I know we’re in a movie but seeing that merchandise for it, this is just a completely different level than I thought.”

Spencer, on the other hand, recalls, “During ‘New Moon,’ they were shuttling us to the gym, and I think we were on our way back from the gym and there were these girls camped out in our hotel lobby, they wanted to meet us. And they stayed there for a week straight. The hotel staff had to kick them out.”

Booboo Stewart’s Friends Think Being in Twilight Moives is Cool

Booboo Stewart talked to a reporter about his friends opinion of his Twilight connections.

I asked him about whether his guy friends gave him a hard time for being in a franchise oriented towards women, and I was actually pretty surprised by what he said.

“They think it’s really cool that I’m in it,” he offered. “It is a really cool thing to be a part of. And yeah, it is obviously more a girls’ movie. But in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, there’s definitely scenes for the guys.”

Booboo’s interests go well beyond the big screen, however; he’s also incredibly into music (he’s a guitarist and cites Boston as his favorite band) and has toured with Miley Cyrus. In addition, he’s also a big fan of superheroes and comic books; he’s even created his own character named Millenium Man.

“I made (him) up a really long time ago…It’s just a hobby, it’s all for fun. We’ll see what happens with it. It’s almost all done.”

And if he could be any superhero? “Superman.”

Booboo was an extremely easy-going guy and was great to talk to. I couldn’t help but walk away thinking years down the road, I’d be telling my (future) kids about the chance I got to interview Booboo Stewart.
