Justin Lerner talks Girlfriend, Rathbone and Directing

Lexicon Reader Dayna had the opportunity to interview Justin Lerner(pictured left with Jackson Rathbone), the director of Girlfriend. Here Justin talks about the movie making process, working with Jackson and more. Remember that the movie is currently raising funds for a theatrical release.

I had the pleasure of meeting Writer/Director/ Producer, Justin Lerner at this past year’s Toronto International Film Festival when he took his film GIRLFRIEND starring Twilight’s Jackson Rathbone, Raising Hope’s Shannon Woodward and the extremely talented actor Evan Snieder, who has made his first starring role in a feature length movie, to the festival in September 2010.

When I returned from Tiff there were plenty of movies that came home with me, for a short time. GIRLFRIEND was not one that stuck around for just a short time though. We are now in March, 2011 and it’s been six months since I last sat in the theater to see it.

This Quote from Jane Schoettle, programmer of Toronto International Film Festival sums it up for me and tons of others, “ GIRLFRIEND is warm, sharp, funny, complex… I saw it four months ago and it’s still under my skin.”

Indie Film Review – Larry Richman had this to say about GIRLFRIEND“This movie about (and starring) a young man with Down’s Syndrome has some scenes which may make audiences uncomfortable but, to me, that’s one of the definitions of true art –it moves you, makes you happy, sad, angry — it affects you emotionally on a deeply personal level. Girlfriend can be hard to watch at times but is one of those films that deserves the label “important.”

With all these great reviews, it was an honor to have the opportunity to ask Justin some of the questions that have been swimming around in the heads of myself and my friends. [Read more…]

Robert Pattinson Vanity Fair Web Extra

Vanity Fair has an extra online tidbit about Robert Pattinson.

“Sing us a song, piano man—let’s start with “Happy Birthday.” New Orleans’s Preservation Hall—where Annie Leibovitz shot young Robert Pattinson, shown tickling the ol’ 88 with the world-famous Preservation Hall band—celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Situated in the French Quarter, the music venue is one of the country’s most hallowed: it was founded in 1961 for the purpose of preserving New Orleans–style jazz, and indigenous American music. On his first-ever visit to the Quarter, Pattinson jammed with the house band and thoroughly held his own—his celebrity perhaps subsumed by that of the musicians, whose legendary status awed everyone on set. ”

Revenue From Twilight Movies Eases Summit’s Financial Options

The Hollywood reporter got the exclusive on what is happening over at Summit in regards to refinancing. Talk of this first started earlier this year, but now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned the following:

“Vampires turn out to be a bloody good investment.

Soaring with the success of the Twilight movie franchise, Summit Entertainment is on the verge of closing $750 million in new financing that will allow the production and distribution company to pay off its high-interest debt load, provide a solid financial footing for the future and pay a $200 million dividend to investors and key members of the management team, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The refinancing, expected to close this week, was arranged by J.P. Morgan and UBS AG and consists of a $550 million loan with a term of five and a half years and a $200 million revolving line of credit guaranteed against future revenues from movies, including the two sequels to Twilight currently in production.

That money, plus profits that have accumulated from movie distribution and merchandise licensing, mostly from Twilight, will go to pay off debt from the original formation of the modern Summit in 2007, and monies owed on the current revolving line of credit.”

It’s a pretty impressive deal for a company that has more or less  revamped itself into a solid player in the last five years. See the fine tuned details on The Hollywood Reporter.

Next Movie Does Robert Pattinson Cartoon Style

Next Movie in honor of Rango decided to expand our cartoon horizons:

“Practically every mega-star in Hollywood has gotten animated.

Tom Hanks was a toy. George Clooney was a fox. Angelina Jolie was a tigress. Eddie Murphy was an ass donkey. And now, Johnny Depp is a lizard in the desert-set romp “Rango.”

But as the roles above indicate, hardly ever do these stars voice people — even rarer people that resemble themselves.

We wondered aloud what these stars would look like as animated characters. Our old buddy Old Red Jalopy heard us and drew up these eight portraits.”

One of the portraits is of Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen is seen left. Also don’t miss Rango where Gil Birmingham is voicing one of the characters!

Movieline Interviews Noel Fisher In Airport Car Ride

This has to be one of the more unusual locations for a quickie interview.

“Beneath the wanton, CG-aided destruction caused by invading alien hordes in this week’s sci-fi actioner Battle: Los Angeles there lies a deeply human core: the bond among soldiers under siege, banding together in the face of certain extinction. And as the naive Pfc. Shaun Lenihan, 26-year-old Canadian actor Noel Fisher is the face of Battle: LA’s humanity — a too-young Marine thrown into the harrowing chaos of war, separated from his unit, with only his rifle to cling to as terror sets in.

Movieline caught up with Fisher (who has a recurring role on Showtime’s Shameless) to discuss Battle: Los Angeles, his one-time brush with Charlie Sheen, and other highlights of his fast-developing career as he was literally making his way back home to Vancouver for his biggest job to date — playing the ancient Romanian vampire Vladimir in Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. How much can you discuss during a car ride to the airport?”

Peter Facinelli Official Twilight Tour Los Angeles Summary

We couldn’t tweet Peter’s Q & A from the official Twilight Tour because we had to leave to catch our plane back to the East Coast. However, Team Twilight did a great job of summarizing what Peter said:

“‘Did you know that Peter laid on top of Catherine during his audition and shouted at Robert to get the venum out? Peter thought it would look weird if anyone walked in on that scene. LOL!!

Peter said if he was younger he would have loved to play Edward.

Peter says the family scenes are like one big party. And loves those scenes in every twilight movie.

It was Peter’s idea to drop Edward during the Eclipse fight training. He thought Carlisle should one up Edward cause he’s older.”
