E!: The Finalish Word on Eclipse

E! takes a look at the money Eclipse is earning in a summer where most intended blockbusters have positively fizzled.

A lot has been made that Eclipse isn’t living up to expectations. Unfortunately the numbers disagree. Initially, statistically New Moon made more; however New Moon experienced significant box office drop offs that Eclipse hasn’t. For example the first week that Eclipse made less than 1 million dollars on a given day was this past week. New Moon on the other hand, 30 days into its release, had multiple days with less than a million dollar take.

According to E!:

“With a $290.2 million domestic take, as of Wednesday, Eclipse is the third-biggest grosser of the summer, and the fourth biggest of the year. Worldwide, it’s at about $650 million, which makes it the year’s biggest 2-D movie so far, and third biggest overall, behind the 3-D-assisted Alice in Wonderland and Toy Story 3.

In short, Eclipse was, as expected, big.

“When you consider that the film cost under $70 million, it will probably, along with Toy Story 3, end up as one of the most profitable films of the year,” Exhibitor Relations’ box office analyst Jeff Bock said in an email.”

The only place where Eclipse is not coming in as big as New Moon is in the foreign box office. That seems to be accounted for by fluctuating exchange rates. If you’ve traveled overseas lately you know what that is like.

“Summit exec Richie Fay said Friday he expects Eclipse to keep the edge domestically. Worldwide, he was less sure, saying foreign-exchange rates may cut into Eclipse‘s bottom line, although the film’s overseas attendance has been virtually even with that of New Moon‘s.

“We’re not really looking at franchise fatigue,” Fay said. “I think our audience has remained relatively loyal. It might have [even] expanded a little bit.”

Eclipse reached the 290 million mark domestically this week.  New Moon ended its box office run with 296 million.  We’re going to predict that by next weekend Eclipse will reach the same box office draw as as did New Moon.  Additionally, we are going to go out on a limb and state that we think Eclipse will reach the elusive 300 million mark, something that few films reach. If it does so, it will mark the first time since Titanic that a primarily women’s draw feature will have reached this mark.

The Boston Globe: Local Girl Anna Kendrick’s Rise to Fame

The Boston Globe sat down with native New Englander, Anna Kendrick, to talk about her new work in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, the Twilight Saga, and her recognition in the acting world. (Photo Credit: Pat Greenhouse/Globe Staff)

MG: You’re a part of this huge, crazy “Twilight’’ thing, and then all of a sudden you’re an Oscar campaign. How have you maintained any normalcy?

AK: I’ll tell you, the really humbling moment is the moment that you get home from the Golden Globes or the BAFTAs or the Oscars, and you sit on your bed, which is the same crappy IKEA bed you’ve had since you were 18, and you put on an old episode of “Family Guy,’’ and you have a frozen meal . . . and you’re trying not to get macaroni and cheese on your thousand-dollar gown.

MG: In every interview I’ve read with you, you get asked something about your costars Robert Pattinson and George Clooney — like, what does one smell like versus the other. Or if you were on an island, who would you bring? You always play along. It must get annoying.

AK: I’ve always tried to be nice and not to dismiss that question, but I’ve gotten to the point where I’m wondering why I don’t. . . . It’s one of the things that really makes me hate doing interviews. If somebody said that about me all the time or asked, “Who’s sexier, Anna or Kristen Stewart?,’’ it would make me feel terrible. And I would imagine it would make her feel terrible, too.

Glamour UK Features Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz

You have to love the argument on the wrestling match.

Glamour UK Features Xavier Samuel, Ashley Greene, and Peter Facinelli

Glamour UK Features: Robert Pattinson, Booboo Stewart, and Alex Meraz

The online version of Glamour UK has an interview with Rob that is mostly Remember Me focused because it just hit DVD format in the UK.

“Q: How do you deal with fame?

A: I just try to keep working. Even ten years ago, Leonardo DiCaprio always talked about being able to take a break away from everything, but I don’t think you can do that anymore. I think you need to capitalize and steer your career at the same time, because I think that, especially with a thing like Twilight, where it is literally such a huge universe…

Q: Is it a burden to you, but it opens doors?

A: It opens doors and it closes others, like anything does. You can say, ‘Oh if I was still unknown, then no one would judge me’, but at the same time, nobody would give a s*** either (laughter). It’s a weird little balance. And most of the time, you are just completely guessing what you should do, so I guess I’m just doing scripts that I think are good.

Q: Did the Twilight fans make shooting Remember Me in New York quite difficult?

A: The fan situation, completely, honestly, they were lovely. They would completely respond to people saying – “Please go and wait over there or something”, even when there were tons and tons of them, but it was like the paparazzi who were unbelievable. They were like jackals.”

Punk Your Chucks Twilight Style

Tokyolovein did a feature on Mag, the artist at PunkYourChucks.com. Pel has a pair of Mag’s sneakers on a Lexicon theme. Kimmy from His Golden Eyes and Amanda Bell from Twilight Examiner also have pairs on Twilight themes. Mag has also done work for the Twilight producers, Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone and more. Check out the videos below. Mag shows off his work on both sneakers and pumps.

Check out Mag’s site here. Pel’s been wearing hers at most of the Creation Entertainment Official Twilight Conventions. She’s on her feet 12 hours a day at those events and the sneakers are still in great shape, no paint chipping! In Pel’s opinion, they aren’t cheap, but you certainly get your money’s worth.

Peter Facinelli Talks Twilight, Loosies and More

PeterscarfPeter Facinelli was in the Virgina area at a mall appearance for Alex’s Lemonade Stand. The Fredericksburg.com caught up with Peter:

Peter Facinelli had never heard of the “Twilight” books when his agent asked him to audition for a vampire movie.

“I said no. I was thinking it was some B or C slasher, horror kind of picture,” said Facinelli, whose agent quickly sent him a copy of Stephenie Meyer’s popular first novel.

“I couldn’t put it down,” said Facinelli, who read it in one night. “It was kind of a throwback to the origins of what vampire folklore was, the sensuousness and the love story that it used to be.

“It wasn’t a schlocky horror movie.”

LTT Interviews Stephenie Meyer Set 4 by letterstotwilight

Twilight Series Theories: More Fanjunket Friday Information

The crew at Twilight Series Theories has another segment of the Stephenie Meyer fansite interview. Partial transcript appears on their site (a snippet is below) . Full audio and full transcript on their site.

“Q:Well we did fall in love with Bree, and we were trying to figure out why she was destroyed.  We can’t figure out a rule that she broke.  She didn’t reveal herself to a human, she wasn’t in a fight… So we want to save her… So, why? Why is she not around?

SM: She’s not around because, there are the specific rules, there are general rules… Don’t attract attention.  And, the specific rules, and armies are against the rules.  So once you’ve screwed up enough, so that people are noticing, and people are noticing big time with this, you all are gone!  If they just said, “This member of this wild coven was bad, and this one was bad… We’ll kill them!  But you guys did okay.”  That’s not how you rule with terror.  You know!  Iron fist, man!  You all suffer!

(Everyone Talks!)

SM: She would have been fine if she hadn’t been a part of that group. Yah… Bad decisions.  Her and Riley both.

Q: I was just wondering if Jane had an ulterior motive with that?  There was something between her and Jane.  Did Jane see her (Bree) in the trees?

SM: No. Jane didn’t know.  Jane came into it thinking… She didn’t know what the newborns had been told. She had that one exchange with them. She doesn’t know. And, what has this girl (Bree) already told them? You know, she was ready to… She wanted to make sure the statements on the table at the end were the ones that they should be.  Even though she’s not in control, she is pretty high up.  She has a sense that at some point it’s going to hit the fan with the Volturi, that the Cullen’s are of special interest.  But at the same time it would embarrass her, the people in charge (her bosses), if she slipped up. She was all flying on her own with this one.  But she was impatient, she was like, when are they going to do this? We’re (Volturi) getting embarrassed because this all out there.  So she finally goes to Victoria and says you have to do something or I’m going to have to kill you all.  She doesn’t want to do that.  She wants the Cullen’s to get killed. And, she’s all along making her own decisions which could get her in a lot of trouble.  You know?  So, she’s very tense for Jane. She doesn’t usually have to fly solo for stuff like that.”
