Stephenie Meyer’s Agency To Set Up UK Branch

Bookseller.com On the heels of the announcement that Stephenie Meyer won the UK’s Galaxy Award for Best Children’s Book of 2008, comes the news that The Writers House is setting up a UK branch. The Writers House represents Stephenie and other talented writers in varying genres. Their clients include the likes of Ken Follet and Christopher Paolini.

According to Bookseller.com, “The office will be headed up by the agency’s British rights director Angharad Kowal who will support the agency’s work in the United Kingdom and British Commonwealth, Australia, New Zealand.”

Book Babe Wrap Up Part 2

OK, picking up where I left off. The author panel was fantastic. These guys were informative and funny. The principal of Marcos De Niza High School acted as the moderator, and he spread the questions throughout the panel.

After the discussion it was time for the raffle and auction. You could buy raffle tickets that would get you anything from a signed New Moon to an ARC(Advanced Readers Copy) of an author’s latest novel. They probably pulled about 10 raffle winners or so.

Next it was time for the auction. Now truth be told I pretty much knew I was going to go down to Kara, but I figured I could keep it going awhile. What I didn’t anticipate was that each item auctioned would go for as much money as it did. I mean I guessed that the signed manuscripts and ARCS would be in the area of $300-$500 because that’s what I’ve seen them go for on ebay…boy was I wrong. Here’s the rundown of what each item went for courtesy of Shannon Hale’s blog(that also has a really cool write up):

Twilight ARC – $1500
The Host skateboard deck – $1200
Marked early ms of The Host and Eclispe went for about $4,500 each
Forever Dawn epilogue – $5100
Lunch with Stephenie (not at Taco Time) – $6500 (two winners each paying $6500)

So, midway through this auction my phone goes crazy. Seriously, it’s like I’m being hit with a cattle prod. It’s Kara texting me going, “Ouch are we in trouble.” Yes ouch, my malfuntioning phone was tasering my read end! However, we were dedicated to giving a good show and I was prepared to bid up to about $3,200 or so on a dress I was really sure I would fit into with almost no alterations necessary.

So the bidding starts and Kara and I go back and forth for a second and then the guy behind us leaps the price by thousands. You can see what happened in the video. I offered to flip Kara some extra money ( you can’t really hear that in the video) thinking we could share the dress since we live nearby, but this guy was seriously going to bankroll over us. In the end the winner was Allison of Twifans who was with the guy holding the bidding card. Both Kara and I were really happy knowing that a fan got the dress and not someone who was just going to flip it on Ebay!

Vancouver Sun Confirms High School Filming

The Vancouver Sun has an article confirming that David Thompson Secondary School is where New Moon will be shot. Aside from the high school, they state that, “In the past few weeks, fans have been running off their feet to catch glimpse of the stars around the city. Filming crews have been spotted at Minnekhada Regional Park in Coquitlam, in Pitt Meadows and on location at Tofino near Long Beach.”

What they don’t add in is that despite the running, no one has really seen anything because of the these locations being tightly locked down, which according to our poll from last week the majority of fans seem to think this is positive since it lets the cast and crew concentrate more.

The article also mentions the names of two local eateries where the cast has been going(second time this has been mentioned in about a week). Somehow we have the feeling that body guards or no body guards, they are probably not going to be there as frequently now that the location has been splashed all over the local media.

Jackson Rathbone Interview

The Examiner sat down with Jackson Rathbone and talked to him about his early roots, rise in Hollywood, and how he deals with all the attention.  When they asked him about Jasper’s bloodlust in Twilight vs. New Moon, this is what he had to say:

It’s all in the old saying, ‘Location, location, location . . .’ Once you realize the immense animalistic impulses a vampire has, you realize . . . every little thing is more intense. The smell from a vampire-burning bonfire, the adrenaline from the kill, and the exhaustion from the chase . . . basically, in terms of scent, the difference is between a dance studio filled with smells [of] burning and violence, as opposed to the Cullen Family living room, which is filled with the smell of birthday cake. There is no inconsistency, don’t worry.

Jackson Rathbone in Criminal Minds

Fanpop has several photos of Jackson in his upcoming role on criminal Minds in an episode called “Conflicted”.

According to the official Criminal Minds site, “Jackson Rathbone (Twilight) Guest Stars as Adam, A Potential Target of a serial killer.”

Rumor Control

OK in the latest that’s making our inbox and alerts spin:

    • The New Moon soundtrack artists have been selected and there’s a super secret letter from Chris Weitz that says so. It was most likely an April Fools joke that people took seriously. Probably an April fools joke, but not real. FALSE
    • That Jaden Nation guy is just trying to rip Kaleb Nation off. He copied his name,he’s trying to sound like him, and everything. Well, given that his name is actually Jaden Nation, and he is Kaleb’s real life brother we think any similarity has to do with genetics. Anyway, we had Jaden’s reguar YouTube gig pointed out to us, asked if he would do a saterical, news wrap-up opinion piece for us each week, and the rest is history. False
    • OMG! Rob is sleeping with Nikki! Umm…honestly, we have no idea. However the idea that Nikki Reed in broad daylight, no disguise, aware that a full cadre of paparazzi was following her would go to Rob’s hotel for several hours of sexual bliss and was hoping that this info wouldn’t get out? You do the math. Then of course maybe Rob has an entire legion of women up there and Nikki had to share him with Paris, Camilla, Kristen, Megan, Natalie, Kiera….(Did we miss anyone? It’s hard to keep track of who Rob has mesmerized into his bed despite his raging BO problem.)  We are totally agreeing with Buddy TV’s assessment. UNKNOWN, BUT WE DOUBT IT
    • They are still actively casting New Moon. Nope, as far as we are aware they are done. Also we have nothing to do with the casting. Last week, all of a sudden, we started getting a bunch of resume’s emailed to us. Not sure if that info is appearing on a blog or forum someplace, but don’t send us your resume; we can’t help you. FALSE

      Breaking Dawn Wins Galaxy Award

Breaking Dawn won a Galaxy Award in the category of children’s book beating out popular authors J. K Rowling and Eoin Colfer among others.

According to the Galaxy site, “(At Borders UK) each author will have their own shelf, on which will be displayed not only their own latest book, but also the books that they are recommending.”

Any ideas what Stephenie will recommend?

Robert Pattinson Little Ashes Exclusive Clips

MTV has exclusive clips from Little Ashes.

Larry Carrol follows up and gives his assessment here. If you live in New York City, you can even snag tickets. (Ty to Amanda)

      The Humans Arrive

Adding to the worst kept secret in Vancouver (the fact that New Moon would be filming at an area high school), the humans are now in town. That’s right Justin Chon, Anna Kendrick, Christian Serratos, and Michael Welch were all snapped as they landed at the Vancouver airport.

Looks like Mike has finally restored his hair to it’s natural blonde state after it was dyed dark for both a theatrical production and a film.

Speaking of Michael Welch, he is starting a drive about mammogram awareness. Touched By Twilight has the full scoop:

I’d received an email from Michael’s publicist yesterday about this website that has set a goal to donate one mammogram a day during the month of April to a woman who cannot afford it herself. But they need our help – all you have to do is visit their site and their sponsors donate the money for a mammogram. Michael’s publicist said that Michael supports this drive and wanted TBT to put his name behind it and start spreading the word. You can find more information on this on our website here.
