NewCon: A New Kind of Convention

A convention that’s a lot more like an extended arts festival is happening in Nashville, TN starting  November 6, 2009. One of the big driving forces behind this convention is the 100 Monkeys. This is a whole new model, we’ve never seen anything like this before. Usually conventions are initiated by fans, charities, or event companies. As far as we are aware, this is the first time the performers themselves are the driving force. Additionally, they state that a large portion of the profits are going to charity.

According to their website:

As you’ll soon see, our events are more like festivals than conventions. With that said, this is an event created to inspire creativity and awareness of the arts in all forms. Come with an open mind and bring your imagination!

Everyone is part of our community and we want all of you to feel welcomed. Our goal is for everyone to have a good time and not worry about whether or not you can bring your camera or if you’re allowed to say hi to a cast member. Of course you can!

We gear our daily events around things that are fun for the guests and the cast, which include art and poetry contests as well as musical acts. Winners from these contests get a private meet & greet with attending cast and band members. In addition, the winning poet will also have their work read LIVE at Saturday’s ball by an attending cast member.

Jackson Rathbone’s band, 100 Monkeys, will soon be tweeting about their ‘design your own t-shirt’ contest. The winning shirt will actually get printed as a limited edition item and sold on their website. All of the money from the sale of the winning t-shirt will be donated to the Spencer Bell Legacy project. Which brings up a good point. A portion of ALL of proceeds from the NewCon Festival will be donated to the Spencer Bell Legacy Project.

Check out the NewCon website for more details and how to get tickets.

Access Hollywood: Kristen Stewart Behind the Scenes

Peter Facinelli Talks to Moviefone

Peter Facinelli gave a brief interview to Moviefone about New Moon. He covers his perspective on Carlisle and where he sees the movie going.

“‘New Moon’ is going to have a lot more action than ‘Twilight,’ which I’m excited about, and then take the action in ‘New Moon’ and double it in ‘Eclipse.’ I get to be a part of that action, which is fun because Carlyle is this calm figure. I think the vampire brawls are going to be exciting.”

Check out the rest of Peter’s interview on Moviefone.

Peter has also been doing some amazing work for charity. On his off days in between filming Nurse Jackie and Eclipse he has been raising money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand among other causes.

Kristen Stewart in 17 and Allure

Kristen Stewart has features in both Allure and 17 Magazines. For 17, Kristen is going to be on the cover of their November issue. When asked about what she saw as the “payoff” of being involved in the Twilight movies Kristen said:

“I’m glad to be a part of something that’s actually bigger than me for once. The success of it is the coolest thing ever because I can’t tell you how much it hurts to do something that you feel like you can really learn from — and you feel is an important section of your life that you put everything into — and then nothing, it just never comes out. So the fact that we can share that, that’s why we do this. It’s the coolest thing.”

Allure has outtakes from Kristen’s feature in their upcoming November issue that hits news stands on October 20th.

They have a couple of brief quotes from Kristen.  Speaking about the paparazzi Kristen said, “I want to call their parents and say, ‘Do you know what your child does for a living?’ They need to learn some manners.”

As for how she gets portrayed in the media, “I spend so much of my time guarding against sounding insincere about something that I would die for,” says the actress. “Maybe I’m overcompensating…. I care so much. And it gets reported as the opposite.”

See it all on Allure.

Twilight Lexicon: Michael Welch Interview

There’s a story behind this one. A couple of months back we asked Mike for an interview, but then he got busy (landed two indie movies, kudos to Mike), we got busy, and we figured it was one of those things that just didn’t work out, no big deal.

So last Saturday we are at Creation Entertainment’s Official Twilight Tour in Chicago and we are on line to get some autographs from Mike. We chat with Mike as he’s signing some items for our movie event giveaways and then we walk away from the table saying thanks.

So, the next thing we know Mike gets up from behind the table, flags us down, and says, “Hey wait, don’t I owe you guys an interview?” We told him not to worry about it, and were flattered that he remembered, but he said, “No, no I owe you guys. How about we do it later tonight?”

So long story short we quickly dug up our interview questions, and thanks to Creation allowing us to use their green room we were able to interview Mike. Now you have to understand that we interviewed him about 5 minutes after he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand doing this, and he had to be exhausted.

We hope you enjoy the interview as much as we enjoyed doing it. The whole story, in our opinion, shows how dedicated Mike is to fans.

Ilyana Kadushin Launches New Site

Ilyana Kadushin who narrates the audiobook versions of the Twilight Saga has launched a new website. You can find her site here.

We were able to meet Ilyana at the Summer School in Forks convention back in June. She’s a multi-talented lady who not only does audiobooks, but she’s records her own music.

Ilyana writes a bit about her Summer School in Forks experience and a side trip to La Push:

“…one of my favorite scenes and parts of narrating Twilight; were the scenes at La Push beach and when we first hear about the Quileute legends.  When I got to actually go to La Push and stand on the beach with all drift wood, surrounded by stunning scenery with a Native American elder who told us stories as we stood around a roaring bonfire…i got chills and in a good way! So much of the first part of Twilight contained these really awkward and stressful scenes for Bella with her father, at her new school and of course with Edward. So it felt like a relief for Bella to go La Push and talk to Jacob about the area, it’s natives and the stories and legends. I like the scene (Chapter 6 “Scary Stories”) between Jacob and Bella, when they first meet and as he is trying to both scare and excite her with his stories. I liked this part so much that I read it aloud on NPR radio during an interview about Twilight. These Quileute legends and stories then appeared in the other books as well, told by Billy Black and other members of tribe and I looked forward to telling these parts of the books very much.”

Taylor Lautner to Present at Scream

Taylor Lautner, according to Just Jared is going to represent The Twilight Saga: New Moon at the Scream awards. Taylor will be unveiling a clip, but no word on what the clip will be, or if it is significantly different than the material that we have already seen.

Twilight is nominated in multiple categories. The show tapes this weekend and will air on Spike TV later in the month. Make sure you vote for Twilight, because the Scream motto is “vote and vote often”!

Who are you hoping brings home a Scream award?

Bella Cullen Project New Horizons

The Bella Cullen Project was one of the very first Twilight themed bands out there. Don’t worry they haven’t had an epic Beatles break up or anything; they’re still friends, but the girls are now moving on to new projects.

Chandler Nash is going solo.  According to her reps, “She just recorded 3 new songs with her new manager/producer Rob Clark (bass player for Stereo Fuse when they were with WindUp Records).   Tori is actually co-writing some new songs for Chandler to record, but prefers not to perform, so Chandler will be performing solo with a new back up band Rob has put together for her.  Although the new music is not Twilight inspired, Rob has produced a new pop rock version of Chandler’s song “Forevermore” which IS Twilight inspired.”

We’d like to wish Chandler, Tori, and Ally the very best of luck in whatever they do. It took guts to be one of the first Twi-bands out there and we say hats off to them!
