Twilight reaches MIT

One of the most interesting and surprising things to hit our Google alerts lately is an article from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology of all places!  They examine how  the Twilight phenomenon has sparked debate over reinventing traditional myths about vampires.

The concept of the vampire has been around for centuries, and the Twilight series seems to incorporate very little of it. Fine, so Edward Cullen drinks blood, is sort of ancient, and has a mild allergy to sunlight, but then again, so does Ozzy Osbourne. Few would mistake Ozzy for a vampire, and much fewer would mistake him for the lead in a romance novel.

Eclipse filming on the hush hush.

Canada.com is reporting about how tight lipped the production crew for Eclipse is being.   As usual, fans from all over the world are flocking to VanCity in the hopes of catching a glimpse of Robert Pattinson and other stars of the franchise.  What isn’t so usual is that fans are having more and more difficulty finding out where the filming is going on, something we caught on to very quickly as most of the reports out of Vancouver have been about finding the filming sites AFTER the filming has happened.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Eclipse producers had asked newspaper websites and radio stations outlets in Vancouver not to disclose the filming locations, citing possible security and safety concerns for both the cast and crew, as well as the fans.

Robert Pattinson Cover Shot

LA Times The Dish Rag has a cover shot of Robert Pattinson looking very much like James Dean.  In the article he talks about Twilight (DUH!), acting versus celebrity, and his upcoming projects.

He admits that finding a copy of “Twilight” in London was difficult initially.
“I tried a couple of bookshops and they weren’t available. Hardly anyone I knew had read them apart from one girl, a friend of my sister.”

The Mounties Are On The Job

Remember last year when the Canadian Mounted Police (AKA Mounties) ensured the safty of the production crew while they shot the beach and bike scenes at Tofino?

Well the Mounties are at it again, only this time the location is a lot less exotic. It’s Bella’s house.

Imagine one of Canada’s famous Mounties. You know, the ones who appear in movies with giant stetsons and bright red serge tunics.

Now imagine vampires.

Canada’s famous police force and the world’s even more famous vampires had a meeting of sorts on Friday in Surrey, British Columbia, during a film shoot for Eclipse, the third installment in the uber popular Twilight series.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer guarded 28th street in Surrey on Friday, keeping twittering Twilight fans more than half a kilometre away from the set of Bella Swan’s house.”

Twilight Examiner gives details of the Fantasy TwiLife con from Orlando

The folks over at the Examiner had the chance to catch an interview with Edi Gathegi, Justin Chon, and Gil Birmingham this last weekend when the guys were in Orlando for the Fantasy TwiLife convention.  You can read the entire interview here.

Q: And what kind of motivates you guys to do the conventions as opposed to some of your other colleagues who don’t choose to?
Justin: Um, I think it’s fun, and you get to go somewhere that maybe you haven’t been before. I mean, I haven’t been to Orlando in so long, and I’ve gotten to go to Europe twice. That’s pretty awesome … and meet people who actually want to talk to you.
Edi: You’re like loved as soon as you walk in the door.
Justin: That’s a good feeling.
Gil: Oh, I just love the fans. The fans are the best part of it. Just to have interaction and hear their stories and how involved they are with the series. There’s some fabulous stories I’ve heard and I’m completely touched by it. And from that way, it makes things all really worthwhile.

They also have a great write up about Gil Birmingham’s music as well as a few videos of him performing some of his original music and jamming with the guys from Nova Echo.
