Eclipse DVD Release Party Info—Recap

We’ve been getting a lot of questions on Eclipse DVD parties. Unfortunately there isn’t much to report other than what we already have. Here’s the recap:

For places specifically hosting a party (not just being open at midnight) check out The Official Eclipse Movie site and plug in your zip code in the search feature. As many of you have noticed, there are far fewer locations than we had for New Moon. Just by way of comparison to New Moon, last year there were multiple locations in Manhattan where release parties were taking place including a Best Buy where Peter Facinelli was present. This year, in the entire City of New York, there are only 3 parties in all of the 5 boroughs: 2 in Staten Island and 1 in Queens. There is nothing in Manhattan, the Bronx, or Brooklyn. The past two years the Lexicon has done events in Manhattan, but since there aren’t any available and the other NYC area events aren’t convenient to where we live, we aren’t doing anything this year.

Places that just so happen to be open at midnight. There are a variety of stores like super Targets and Walmarts that are 24 hour stores that happen to be open at midnight anyway. There won’t be a party, but you can get your disc. If you are looking to match your set, Target has the style packaging that Borders was previously using and no longer is. Check with your local store to see if they’ll be putting the DVD out promptly at midnight.

Small local retailers. There may be some small local retailers doing midnight release parties that didn’t make the Eclipse website. Check in with your local indie book, music, and DVD stores to see if they have anything going.

Actor appearances. Currently we have no info on what locations actors may appear. For New Moon, Summit gave out details on actor appearances the night of the release. There was also a lot of Twitter chatter with the actors before that, hinting at where they might be. So far, no Twitter chatter yet. David Slade will be appearing at the Dark Delicacies store 3512 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, CA 91505December 4th at 6:00 p.m. This is a numbered event and DVD must be purchased at Dark Delicacies. See their website or call the store for more info.

Info for UK fans

Twilight fans across the UK can buy the DVD from 00.01 on Monday 6th December

Twilight fans are in for an early Christmas present as over 200 Asda stores prepare to open at 00.01 on Monday morning, 6th December, for the launch of Eclipse on DVD. For the die-hard fans out there, there are two exclusive-to-Asda, special edition DVDs – Double Disk Fan Edition with limited Edition 3D sleeve and The Real World of Twilight: Destination Forks.

The Double Disk Fan Edition includes commentaries from Bella and Edward aka Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson as well as deleted and extended scenes. A must-have companion for the books and movies, Destination Forks showcases the incredible beauty, mystery, moods, and places of the real Forks. The DVDs are available to pre-order for just £12.93 and £5.93 online at Asda.

Fans can pre-order the third instalment of the Twilight Saga online at http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/eclipse.info for just £9.93 where there is an official countdown clock for devoted followers to monitor when the DVD and merchandise officially go on sale.

The release of New Moon on DVD saw thousands of fans queuing at Asda stores across the country from midnight and this year Asda is expecting it to be even bigger. Fans can check the list of selected Asda stores that will open at midnight at http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/eclipse.info.

In addition to Eclipse (pre-order £9.93), Destination Forks (pre-order £5.93) and Double Disk Fan Edition with limited Edition 3D sleeve (pre-order £12.93) Asda has exclusive designs on “Team Edward” and “Team Jacob” T-shirts (£7) and bags (£5) and there are also books and music on the Eclipse Tower available in-store from 00.01 on Monday 6th December.

Twilight Saga Eclipse DVD: A Fan’s Perspective

Lexicon reader Marilyn, who lives in Australia where the DVD is already out, has a review up. She wrote to tell us,  “Hi Lexicon…here’s my review of the Eclipse DVD(I got it early here in Australia). Everyone seems to like the SM/Wyck commentary summary so feel free to take what you want but please credit. Lots of sites have mistakenly been crediting someone else for me 8 hours work!”

So below is part of Marilyn’s review. See the whole thing here. (Warning there is an entire summary of the DVD commentary if you click from both Rob and Kristen and Stephenie and Wyck. We left out the full blow-by-blow commentary summary in case you want to be surprised when you get yours.)

Menu Screen

So this was much cooler than the other ones. A background of mountains with flashes of the movie while the character photos moving left to right(I just realised there are no capital letters in the Twilight font, took me a while!)

Music Videos

Does anyone else think these are a waste of space? Nothing we haven’t seen before. Although I do really like Metric’s song “(Eclipse) All Yours”

Deleted Scenes

Many of you have already seen these online. Theres only 2 of these with the directors commentary either on/off. D-Slade is his typical adorable self. He really likes to wave his hands around a lot with what he’s saying. He has an Eclipse wolf screensaver on his computer in the background.

–It’s not life or death

Angela and Bella chat about Edward and his “jealousy” problems with Jacob. I loved this scene in the book and was disappointed when I didn’t see it on screen. However I do understand why they cut it, so it’s great to see it on the DVD. Christian Serrato’s glasses are really cute and she wears these cool star earrings. DS compliments Kristen’s performance. Her wig looks really good in this one!

–I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do next

This is a moment between Charlie/Bella straight after graduation. Charlie tells Bella how proud he is of her and Bella feels guilty when he mentions her having future children she thinks she can’t have. I think we saw paparazzi photos of this scene. I think that was the fandom’s first sneak peek at Eclipse? I agree with DS that the shot of Charlie clapping in the audience was very powerful and enough for me to see how proud he was of Bella.

Extended Scenes

Again, many of you have probably seen this. We get DS commentary again.

2. Just Keep the window closed

OK I LOVED THIS SCENE IN THE BOOK, and I loved it in the movie. I wish they kept it in. Seriously, so cute. They didn’t want to dwell too much on the row. DS: “they didn’t need it”

3. From now on I’m Switzerland

A few extra lines in the scene about Bella wanting them to work together.DS said there’s too much rivalry. He wanted the story to be more emphasized over the rivalry. I agree, it wasn’t needed.

4. Someone’s creating an army

It seems to be its like Edward saying an extra 4 lines about Aro wanting Alice/Edward and Bella wanting to be changed straight away. It’s interesting they cut out a flashback of Edward/Alice in Italy by Aro’s side. But they wanted it to stay in the 1 room.

5.Bella, I envy you

A little bit extra of Rosalie as a human, cradling a baby. This would help with BD but would be confusing with the audience who may wonder if it was Rosalie’s child. Cute, beautiful scene.

6. What did I say about a low profile?

I’m sick of the newborns. A few extra lines with Xavier lecturing the newborns. Did I mention he’s great in this scene?

7. Jacob’s thoughts are pretty loud

Edward and Bella after Jacob kiss. Edward talks about how he understands Jacob stitched her up. DS: “Retrod over areas already well covered”. DS praises the performances. It slows down pacing. DS likes simplicity.

Melissa Rosenberg on Name Confusion and Launching a Career

melissa-rosenbergheadshotThe Wrap has a great interview with Melissa Rosenberg. She tells the story of trying to get people to read her material, trying to get an agent, and some name confusion that happened along the way at her first big meeting:

“I’m like, Wow, what did she tell them? This is fantastic! I send them the script, and then I go in to meet with one of them. Everyone in the agency wants to meet with me, and I’m going, This is amazing.

And one of them says, Yeah, we just made a deal with your mother. And I’m going, Okay, my mother’s been dead 10 years, so you guys are great!

As it turned out, they thought I was Joan Rivers’ daughter, because her name was Melissa Rosenberg also. I had this nepotism going for me without being related to anyone.

Liz Glotzer knew I wasn’t Joan’s daughter, but her assistant didn’t, and her assistant told the other person, who told all the agents and that’s why they wanted to read me. But some of them actually did read the script, including someone over at the Irv Schechter Company, and they called.

I said, I’ve gotta tell you right away, I’m not Joan Rivers’ daughter, but they read it anyway and that was how I got my first agent.”

Booboo Stewart at Hollywood Santa Parade

From the press release: “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be the “best one so far” for movie fans, according to cast member Boo Boo Stewart.

“[Filming] has been going really great,” the actor confessed in Hollywood.

“You guys are really going to like it, I definitely think so, it’s the best one so far, I have to say,” the 16-year-old revealed.

Boo Boo’s character Seth Clearwater becomes more important in the next instalment and the actor says he’s enjoyed being more involved.

“It’s cool being on set, I like it, I like acting,” he admitted.

The actor braved a chilly night in LA to ride a float in the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade.

He admitted the attention from fans of Twilight never lets up.

“It’s really fun, it’s like no other movie,” he laughed.”

Jackson Rathbone Aim High: Actor and Producer!

We have more information on Jackson Rathbone’s new Internet series called Aim High. It turns out that Jackson is also a producer on the project. See the press release below.

Warner Premiere and Dolphin Entertainment today announced casting for their forthcoming multi-platform teen action series Aim High. Jackson Rathbone, best known for his role as the scarred vampire “Jasper Hale” in the Twilight movie series, stars as teenage government operative “Nick Green.” He is joined by Aimee Teegarden, known to loyal Friday Night Lights fans as “Julie Taylor,” who stars as Nick’s charming love interest “Amanda Miles.”

“We’re thrilled to have Jackson and Aimee on board,” said Producer McG. “They’re incredibly talented, collaborative individuals with undeniable screen presence.”

Aim High also stars Rebecca Mader (Lost) as Nick’s sultry science teacher “Ms. Walker,” Johnny Pemberton (Megadrive) as the well connected best friend “Marcus,” Clancy Brown (Highlander) as Russian mercenary “Boris the Bear,” Jonathan McDaniel (That’s So Raven) as Amanda’s jealous boyfriend and swim team captain “Derek Long,” and Greg Germann (Ally McBeal) as the protective “Vice Principal Ockenhocker.”

Destination Forks: The Real World of Twilight On DVD

The same folks who brought you Twilight in Forks have a new DVD coming out. According to the description on the official website:

Twilight Kiss Number 1 on Portrait Magazine List

Portrait magazine came up with the top ten movie kisses of all time and Twilight was in number one ahead of Titanic and Gone With the Wind.

“#1. Bella Swan & Edward Cullen (Twilight)
With a staggering 77% of your votes, the Twilight kiss came out as being the Top Movie kiss. I have a feeling this one will continue to be on the top lists of romantic movie moments for a very long time. After all, what better love is there then the love from an eternal (stud) vampire? Millions of people couldn’t wait to see how Bella and Edward’s first kiss from the series of books would turn out on the big screen and it’s oblivious to see, most of you were very happy with it. MTV Movie Awards 2009 crowned the movie scene as the best kiss with millions of you guys voting. So, let’s see what all the fuss was about…”
