Shift the Power to the People: Twilight Artists Raise Awareness of Reservation in Need

Gil Birmingham, Chaske Spencer, Julia Jones, Boo Stewart, and Justin Chon all appear in this PSA that is trying to raise awareness of the devastating plight of those on the Lakota Sioux, South Dakota Reservation. Theirs is an interesting approach as you’ll see in the video. They don’t need your money; what they need is for you to pick up the phone and call your congressperson or write to them.

According to the Shift the Power to the People website:

South Dakota’s Lakota Sioux- Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe 2010 Crisis

  • February 1st, 2010 Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe has declared state of emergency after severe ice storm devastates reservation
  • Storm topples more than 3000 power poles

Interview Magazine:Joan Jett Talks About Kristen Stewart in The Runaways

Interview Magazine hits news stands in New York and Los Angeles today, and then the rest of the country shortly. In this issue Joan Jett covers The Runaways movie from her perspective.

MCDONNELL: How was it working with Kristen Stewart, who plays you in the film? What did you tell her? How did she study you?

JETT: Well, I found Kristen to be through and through totally professional and just great to be around. I found us to be really, scarily similar, just in our physicality, the way we move through space. The first time we met was a little over a year ago, New Year’s Eve. She came to see us do a concert. We hung out for the whole day, and I just dumped on her about everything I could think about The Runaways-I mean, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I told her all that stuff and how much it meant to me. Then she went off to do New Moon, and I didn’t see her again until about two weeks before The Runaways thing started. But she is so authentic. The thing that came through to me was that it was important to her to capture it. She really wanted to nail it. So I gave her all The Runaways music that I could find; I gave her tapes of me talking. . . . When we were together prior to the start of filming, she was staring at me the whole time. And I was fine with it because I knew she was watching my posture, my mannerisms, everything I did, the way I hold my hands, just everything. And she really soaked it in. When we were hanging out together on set, it was like I had a mirror image. Even just sitting around, we’d do the same thing at the same time. It was just great-and it wasn’t creepy. It was wonderfully special.”

The Cullen House: Price Reduced to Sell

A couple of months ago the house that they used as the Cullen House in New Moon went on the market. Well, it just had its price reduced. According to CNN:

“Even fictional vampires are getting hit by the housing market. The Vancouver house that was the home of the Cullen clan in Twilight: New Moon had its sale price cut to $2,998,000.”

Since it first went up for sale, the house as part of its marketing, has not tried to downplay the house’s role in the film, and the fact the tour groups (though they don’t routinely get in) do in fact drive by. It leaves us wondering if, along with the economy, this is why it’s not selling.

You can see a full gallery of the house here. TY to Melissa for the heads up.

Collider: Kristen Stewart On Success, Growth, and Twilight

Collider asked Kristen about the Yellow Handkerchief, her growth as an actress, and the Twilight Saga.

“Question: When you go on road trips, do you find them to be profound journeys of self-discovery?

Kristen Stewart: The only road trip that I’ve ever taken was back from Portland when I was up there doing Twilight. I bought a little truck and drove home. It wasn’t like the most transformative experience but it was fun. It gave me a sense of freedom and going away from something that was a rather intense experience.

Q: As the world is your oyster now, what attracts you to a role?

KS: I mean, as much as you can say I’d like to do this because it’s different from what I’ve done before, I can’t really plan things out like that because despite whether or not a character sort of fits my description and the script is good, what actually drives me to do something like this, which is a really bizarre thing if you think about it: to play a part in a film and for more reason than just “Oh, I get to be in a movie.” It’s like no, I want to live out this life. It’s like, why? So it has to speak to me in some way and that’s always hard to describe, so I don’t know what I want to do. This is the first time I haven’t had one of my next jobs lined up so I have a totally clean horizon. That’s actually pretty exciting.”

New Moon Script Finder Sues Summit

caseyray-150x150Roughly a year ago Casey Ray, a St. Louis area hairdresser, found Anna Kendrick’s watermarked New Moon script in a dumpster outside a hotel where Anna had been staying while she shot Up in the Air With George Clooney and crew.  Additionally she found another unwatermarked script entitled “Memoirs” at the same location. Memoirs was the original title for Remember Me.

When Ray found the scripts, she considered leaking them to a national tabloid but decided against it, said her lawyer, Al Watkins.

“My client didn’t really want to get paid,” he said, but she was interested in hanging onto the scripts as collector’s items.

Watkins helped her return them to Los Angeles-based Summit Entertainment LLC, the studio making the movies. He said the studio invited Ray to premieres for the two films, and will certify the scripts as authentic after the movies are released.

“Summit doesn’t comment on any of the deals it does,” Summit spokesman Paul Pflug said. But he added, “We thank Ms. Ray for doing the right thing.”

MSNBC has a good outline of what happened here.

Then several months later, Casey Ray complained to TMZ that it was going to cost her over $1,200 in travel expenses to attend the New Moon premiere and after party. As part of her deal she was able to attend both events, walk down the read carpet, and get a script signed by the entire cast, but travel expenses were never included.

“Casey Ray tells TMZ she’s grateful Summit Entertainment coughed up two tickets to the film’s L.A. premiere and after party on November 16 — but the cost of traveling expenses is biting her in the behind.

Ray says the round-trip tickets for her and her niece cost $1,200 — plus another bundle to pay for a hotel and whatever other expenses the duo happens to rack up.

We spoke to a rep for Summit who says Ray’s complaint comes as a complete surprise. The rep said Ray had no problems with the reward package — which also includes a walk down the red carpet and a signed copy of the script by the movie’s lead actors — when she agreed on it back in May … and Summit hasn’t heard a peep from Ray since.”

Read the rest on TMZ

EDITED:(Just found more to the story, read below) Al Watkins, Casey Ray’s attorney, denies the TMZ story and sheds more light on his client’s frame of mind:

“”Casey and I told them that we would have loved it if Summit had paid for her flight and hotel, but that was never part of the deal,” Watkins tells Daily RFT. “They just took that one part of our conversation and ran with it.”

Watkins adds that part of the deal with Summit has Ray receiving a copy of the script signed by the actors in the film, which could net thousands of dollars at auction.

“It was a very fair deal,” he says.

But what was Ray — a hairdresser with Salon K in the Delmar Loop — doing in the hotel’s garbage to begin with?

“She was waiting for her boyfriend and just killing time,” explains Watkins. “She’s a Dumpster diver. Look, I’m not going to judge her hobby. She opened the bin and the script was lying there right on top. It’s not like she was inside the Dumpster rummaging through the garbage — though I’m not saying she wouldn’t do such a thing.”

Read the rest on the Riverfront Times. There is also a photogallery of Casey Ray having her photo taken with Melissa Rosenberg, Alex Meraz, and Charlie Bewley at what appears to be the red carpet and the after party.

Now apparently instead of attending the Remember Me premiere personally, Casey Ray tried to auction off her premiere tickets and after party attendance on EBAY.  According to correspondence made public via court papers Summit discovered the auction and advised Casey Ray that the items as per their agreement were non-transferable, however Ray’s attorney thinks they are. It then looked like they tried to reach a compromise settlement, which evidently failed, and now there’s a lawsuit.

St. Louis Today has the details. as does the St. Louis Business Journal.

Unless they settle this out of court it’s unlikely that this will be resolved before the Remember Me Premiere which takes place this Monday in New York.  It’s all going to come down to contract law and the written agreements. What do you think about the only certain thing here which is, in our opinion, what a mess!

No Klingons Allowed: A Look at a Twilight Convention

twilight-fan-poster-240Myriam, the MSN Superfan, is guest writing for Moviefone. She has a piece up about attending a the Official Twilight Convention in Seattle.

“Twi Tour hit Seattle last month, and I eagerly went to experience my first real fan convention. I arrived on Friday afternoon, just as The Hillywood Show finished presenting their ‘New Moon’ parody. I checked out the vendors room, then enjoyed watching the exclusive taped interviews with the ‘New Moon’ cast, projected on two large screens on either side of the stage. The actors answered questions sent in by fans; the interviews are lighthearted and fun, and there is much laughter from an appreciative audience. Taylor Lautner’s acting idol? Christian Slater. Jamie Campbell Bower’s biggest fear? Spiders.

Now it was time to sit back and watch the Yes/No Trivia Competition: three rounds of ‘Twilight’ trivia questions, with the last person remaining awarded a $250 gift certificate, a professional makeover, and a lucky spot at the Volturi Court during Saturday night’s party. Believe it or not, a man won — quite a feat, considering that 95 percent of the convention’s attendees were female. He gave the makeover to his wife (still not sure if she was happy or mad about that…)…”

Now we can’t say that we’ve ever seen a Klingon at an official Twilight Convention stop, but apparently one showed up at TwiCon last year. So we suppose if a Klingon, a Wookie, or a Browncoat wanted to show up in costume they could. If would make for a very surreal conversation, “So, are the folks on Rigel 7 mostly Team Edward or Team Jacob?” Anyway check out the rest of Myriam’s account over at Moviefone.

USA Today Profiles Anna Kendrick

Anna isn’t letting accolades like these go to her head: “New York Times critic Manohla Dargis notes that Kendrick has no trouble holding her own with A-lister Clooney. “The ferocious Ms. Kendrick, her ponytail swinging like an ax, grabs every scene she’s in, which works for her go-getter (go-get-him) character.” Los Angeles Times critic Kenneth Turan delights in the actress’s take on Natalie. “Kendrick is the film’s secret weapon, and her tightly wound character is a comic triumph.” Anna Kendrick bakes to destress and just wants her favorite hoodie!

“Cupcakes may be the of-the-moment dessert, but actress Anna Kendrick has loftier culinary pursuits.

“I get fascinated by specialty bakeware. I have a really nice springform pan and a bunch of really nice tartlet molds and madeleine trays,” says the star of Up in the Air. “That’s more interesting to me than just cupcakes.”
