Kristen Stewart: “I stand by every mistake I’ve ever made.”

Kristen in Marie Claire 2Marie Claire has a new interview with Kristen Stewart that addresses many of the issues fans have probably been wondering about.  Kristen had this to say about love:

“You don’t know who you will fall in love with. You just don’t. You don’t control it. Some people have certain things, like, ‘That’s what I’m going for,’ and I have a subjective version of that. I don’t pressure myself … If you fall in love with someone, you want to own them—but really, why would you want that? You want them to be what you love. I’m much too young to even have an answer for that question.” Stewart does acknowledge a desire to someday have children (and believes in adoption) and re-create the happy childhood she had. “I had it too good to not have that, too. If I were to put money on it, definitely, yeah. But you earn that, like, that’s so not here yet.” She laughs. “I mean, at this point, I can’t tell you if I want to hang out on Saturday.”

She had this to say about her awkwardness in public:

“I have an embarrassing incapability, seriously, of summoning fake energy.” And that’s what is required of her, she explains, whenever she does media to promote her latest projects. “I’m just not very good on TV, and it’s not my main goal in life to get good at it. People are like, ‘She just can’t handle’-for lack of a better word-‘the spotlight.’ No, actually, I can’t, and that is totally who I am. I love being an actor, but I’m the last person to want to have a birthday party. I don’t try to force it or turn it into something else or fabricate this personality … so I totally agree when people say I’m, like, the most awkward person.” Stewart has reconciled that with her desire to be true to her poetic self. “If you’re operating from a genuine place, then you can’t really regret anything.”

And the quote that defines the whole interview:

“I stand by every mistake I’ve ever made, so judge away.”

Hourglass by Myra McEntire

We here at the Lexicon would like to wish Myra McEntire a very happy book birthday on June 14th.  Myra has been an incredible supporter of the Lexicon for years and has helped at several of the movie events in Nashville.

I’ve had the chance to read Hourglass and trust me this book makes for an excellent summer read.  The writing is witty and snarky.  Emerson is one of the sassiest main characters I’ve ever met and she isn’t going to let anyone push her around.  Enter Michael, the boy who has the answers, well some of them, and a wicked smile.  The story is fast paced and filled with memorable characters. (just wait until you meet Kaleb)  Add in the timeslip factor and you have a truly unique story.

Myra is embarking on a brand new adventure as her book makes its way into the world. Please help Myra celebrate her big day by tweeting her (@MyraMcEntire) use the #Hourglass or leaving a comment below.  And what would a party be without presents?!?!?  We are giving away a SIGNED copy of Hourglass.  Leave a comment below to be entered for the chance to win.  The contest is open internationally and will close on June 19th at 11PM EST.

Synopsis

Since the age of fourteen, Emerson Cole has seen strange things – dead things – swooning Southern Belles, soldiers, and other eerie apparitions of the past. She’s tried everything to get rid of the visions: medication, counseling, asylums. Nothing’s worked.

So when Emerson’s well-meaning brother calls in yet another consultant from a mysterious organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to give it one last try.

Michael Weaver is no ordinary consultant. He’s barely older than she is; he listens like no one she’s ever met before; and he doesn’t make her feel the least bit crazy. As Emerson ventures deeper into the world of the Hourglass, she begins to learn the truth about her past, her future–and her very life.

New Moon from a Child’s Point of View

Last night I let my kid watch New Moon for the first time. Now, it should be noted that my kids are currently 6 and 8 years old. My 6 year old daughter is into all things having to do with princesses or animals of every kind. My 8 year old son loves Harry Potter, Star Wars, and video games. After five years of having their mom deal with Twilight stuff, they know who Bella, Edward, and Jacob are. They know Edward is a vampire and Jacob is a werewolf, but that’s about it. They’ve never had any interest in anything Twilight. So when it came on TV last night, I figured they would run away and go play something in their rooms. Nope. They sat and watched the film, and in typical child fashion, they asked hundreds of questions. After about 10 mins of giggling at the randomness, innocence, and childlike wonder of their questions, I started tweeting them out for all to see.

Well, it seems those tweets were quite popular last night! RealOrNotReal apparently read the tweets out loud to her family while driving cross country. Tucheer83 has requested to meet my kids at a convention so she can get their autographs! So I figured that since so many of us are trapped in our homes here in the states from a snow storm, I’d share the tweets with everyone on the blog  just so you can have a little laugh of your own. They came into the film just at the end of the birthday party when Carlisle was stitching up Bella’s arm. The tweets are in order, so imagine watching the film from start to finish as you read though. You can continue reading under the cut.

Salt Lake Magazine: Confessions of a Newborn Vampire

Salt Lake Magazine had a chance to interview Jodelle Ferland while she was in town signing Eclipse DVD’s.

BH: “How has your life changed since Eclipse?”

JF: “Well, my life has changed quite a bit, and in a lot of ways it stays the same. I’m still just, you know, a normal girl who enjoys hanging out with friends doing regular things. But, I mean I wouldn’t be here if it hadn’t been for Twilight. I’ve been doing all sorts of conventions, meeting a lot of fans. It’s just so much fun.”

BH: “Do you have any memorable moments from being on Eclipse?”

JF: “Well, I think honestly the whole movie was pretty memorable. Actually, I did have my 15th birthday on set, so that was pretty cool.”

BH: “Did you get a cake?”

JF: “Yeah I did. I had a birthday cake on set. And I mean that is pretty much every girls dream to have,” she smiles and laughs, “a birthday party on the set of Twilight. I was so happy that I got to do that. That was really fun.”

USA Today: Xavier Samuel Rising Star

XavierRilyTrailerUSA Today is touting Xavier Samuel as an actor to watch. The article also featured the close off-screen relationship Xavier developed with fellow newbie Bryce Dallas Howard.

“Fellow Eclipse newcomer Bryce Dallas Howard, 29, (who takes over the role of Victoria from Rachelle LeFevre) seduces young Riley in the film.

In real life, Samuel calls the two especially good friends. “She’s so professional and she works harder than anyone I’ve ever met in my life,” he says of Howard, who even offered the temporarily homeless actor her couch in L.A. once filming wrapped.

Samuel spent two weeks hanging out with Howard’s young family, “really wonderful people,” he says of her husband, Seth Gabel, and their young son, Theo. Although he’s now renting in West Hollywood, he recently attended Theo’s third birthday party and noshed on barbecue with Bryce’s rather famous father, director Ron Howard.

Did he schmooze his way into a film? “I don’t know if I’d be so lucky,” he quips. “I haven’t really broached the subject with Ron yet.”

Felony Dismissed Against Chicago Area Woman Caught Taping New Moon

Early this week we brought to your attention the case of Samantha Tumpach  who was caught taping approximately 3 minutes of New Moon footage in a Chicago area movie theater. What came to light was that she wasn’t actually intending to tape the movie, but rather people in her group who were there to celebrate a birthday party, and the movie was basically background footage.

She spent two days in jail, for the crime when the movie theater alerted local police.  Apparently, the crime, though inadvertent, was a felony. Personally we thought jail time was a little harsh.  We could understand a fine, community service, something like that. It wasn’t as if the woman was taping in order to distribute. Now granted, pulling out a video camera in the middle of a movie is ( as many of our blog commenters pointed out) distracting, bad manners, and really an amazing display of questionable judgment, but it didn’t seem jail time was warranted.  Chris Weitz also agreed given the specific allegations.

Now the Sun Times is reporting that, “A Chicago woman arrested for illegally videotaping the movie “Twilight: New Moon” got a happy ending to her story Friday when Cook County prosecutors abruptly dropped the felony charge filed against her.

Samantha Tumpach would have faced up to three years in prison if she had been convicted of copying three minutes of the film during a Nov. 28 trip to the Muvico Theater in Rosemont.”

EDITED: Summit Entertainment has now issued a statement regarding the incident: “In regards to the situation with Samantha Tumpach, we applaud Muvico for upholding the zero tolerance policy on piracy when the incident occurred at their theater in Rosemont, IL.  The pirating of films is a very serious issue and we all need to remain vigilant to protect the art of film and the myriad of businesses that the film industry supports.  We believe that the attention that this incident has drawn, has served as a reminder to us all that any form of film piracy, or perceived piracy, will be treated with the utmost seriousness.  Summit is pleased that all charges against Ms. Tumpach have been dropped and appreciate the efforts of the police and the prosecutors in this outcome.”

Chris Weitz Defends Chicago Woman

Last week we reported the story of a Chicago-area woman,Samantha Tumpach, who was arrested and jailed for taping 3 minutes of New Moon on a video camera. What came to light after her arrest was that she wasn’t so much taping the movie as she was taping the guests at a birthday party that just so happened to be going on at the theater that was, you guessed it, showing New Moon. Now granted she caught New Moon footage and you’re not supposed to do that, but it’s not as if she was surreptitiously taping the whole movie with intent to sell.  Throwing her in jail for what seems to be stupidity, naivete, carelessness (or quite possibly all three) does seem rather harsh.  Well it looks like, given the alleged specific context of the situation, Chris Weitz agrees.

According to the Chicago Sun Times:

“There is, needless to say, a difference between trying to protect the copyright of a film and making an unfair example of someone who clearly seems not to have any intentions towards video piracy,” Weitz wrote.

He said he had contacted the studio that released the film, Summit Entertainment, to express his concern about her arrest, but he acknowledged there’s probably little he can do to influence the outcome of her case.

“I am not sure what effect I would have on the case,” he wrote, noting “the film is, after all, not my property.”

See the whole story here.

EDITED: We are currently trying to establish exactly who is pressing the charges here.  Public record would seem to indicate that it is the owners of the theater. Ty to Amanda Bell, the Twilight examiner, for finding the apparent complainant.

Tish Monaghan: EW Edward and Jacob’s Looks

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Anyone who’s listened to the Twilight DVD commentary knows that Robert Pattinson wasn’t a fan of Edward’s pea coat.
TISH MONAGHAN: He wasn’t a fan of the pea coat. He wore it in virtually every scene, and I think maybe he just got tired of it. I’m guessing. [Laughs] He just wanted a more mature look. That was part of Edward’s Grade 11 year, and now he’s getting into his graduation year, he’s in a relationship. He had worn hoodies and jeans and sneakers, and Robert, the director [Chris Weitz], and I all wanted to portray him more as a gentleman, more elegant and classic. With our vampire characters, I always went back to the time period in which they were turned to see if there’s any element I could try to simulate in contemporary clothing. He came out of the Edwardian period, around 1910. Of course, most of the gentleman from that time would be wearing suits, coats, hats, etc. We had to pick something that was iconic for the character that would suffice to be used throughout the whole film. At the very beginning of the film, he has one school outfit, and then there’s Bella’s birthday party and disaster strikes. So Edward ends up in that same costume for the remainder of the film. I was thinking of just putting him in a dress shirt and a pair of pants, but Robert wanted to be in a suit.

Fansite Interview: Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, And Nikki Reed

About 10 different Twilight fansites had a phone interview with Kellan, Nikki, and Jackson. The questions are from the following websites: Twilight Examiner, Twilight Series Theories, Twilight Facebook, Twilight Moms, His Golden Eyes, Twilighters, Twilighters Anonymous, Twilight Superfan, Twilight Source/Imprint, Bella and Edward.

Q. How do you think, the questions are all ‘New Moon’ focused so I’m going to get right into it, how do you think Rosalie in ‘New Moon’ is going to be different from Rosalie in ‘Twilight’? Are we going to see more of Rosalie’s other side?
Nikki: The Cullens aren’t really in ‘New Moon’ as I’m sure you guys know because of the books and Chris Weitz making it very clear that we’re going to stick to the storyline. So, we’re not really in ‘New Moon’ all that much, but I did have an opportunity in the voting scene to show a different aspect of her personality, just because we were sort of setting up for ‘Eclipse’, because that’s really my opportunity to explore Rosalie as a character. So I guess, I guess in the voting scene, I worked really close with Chris to make sure that the speech that I give conveys exactly what I want it to. I don’t know if that answers your question, I’m sorry.
[No, no; yeah.]
Nikki:
It’s been a long day. I think that when you have eight hundred pages in a book you have the time to explore each character, and so although Stephenie didn’t write one –dimensional characters, I mean all of our characters are very full and colorful; when you’re trying to execute that in a screenplay it can be really difficult because they have to focus on the love story between Bella and Edward. So in ‘Twilight’, you know, Rosalie was written, I guess the few opportunities I had to be on screen I was angry or bitchy and I don’t think that that’s what Rosalie is. So I’ve been trying my best to incorporate other aspects of her personality.

Q. Following up on what you said about incorporating the different aspects of her personality, where do you find your inspiration to portray a character that is in some senses somewhat of an unlikeable character, but she has that other you know, really human side to her? Where do you find your inspiration to bring out some of that from?

Nikki: I think, I guess years of exploring my own personality in terms of understanding that most of the time anger is actually just a way to hide insecurities or you know, fear or sadness. And so I knew, I knew immediately sort of where Rosalie was coming from and I also have two siblings that I’m very protective of, two brothers. So I guess it sort of stems from that.

Q: Can you tell me how much the atmosphere, the overall atmosphere and work style has changed from Catherine Hardwicke to Chris Weitz?

Kellan: I think they’re very much just different directors. And Catherine’s energy was very prominent and needed in a way to start the ‘Twilight’ franchise and get it off the ground. And with ‘New Moon’ it’s a different type of style in the book, which means the movie’s got to be a different style. And Chris was, had it all just prepared for us actors to step in there, he made us a packet of pages and papers on how he saw the scenes, and just really had everything organized. So when we had questions as actors he had the answers ready and it was very just in both cases just different. It was just such a well oiled machine with ‘New Moon’ and just very easy.
Q. What was your favorite scene to film in ‘New Moon’?
Jackson: I’ve got to say my favorite scene to film was in the trailer and you got to see a glimpse of it. And that wasn’t even quite the entire scene so hopefully you know, people are still going to be surprised by the scene of the birthday party whenever. In my mind it’s kind of the catalyst for the entire idea of ‘New Moon’, and the Cullens kind of getting out of Dodge, if you excuse my tongue there. It’s kind of the idea that you know, finally Bella is really having to face the idea of what it is to be in a relationship with a vampire and the downside of it you know, what happens when you get something as simple as a paper cut and how that can screw everything up. And suddenly the Cullens are gone and we take off in order to protect Bella and it’s one of those things where she doesn’t really feel protected, she feels abandoned, but luckily she’s got her good friend, Jacob Black, who starts to become a little bit more than just a good friend. You see that whole side of things, the wolf boys.
