Mike Welch Updated Blog

Mike Welch, who play Mike Newton in the Twilight movie, just updated his blog

Poor guy just got a speeding ticket up there on his way to film. That brought back memories of the time fans met Stephenie in Forks. Several people got tickets for driving over the speed limit. So, if you are driving on small town roads in the area, watch you speed. Well, whatever money Mike has to dole out for the ticket, he at least won’t have to worry that it will take away from his clothing budget.

Hollywood reporter article on Twilight

The Hollywood Reporter has an article on Twilight and movies in general being made in the Pacific Northwest.  Thanks to Kon for the head’s up.

One of the quotes from Catherine Hardwicke is pretty amusing:

"It’s been pretty challenging so far," Hardwicke said. "We’ve got a delicate condition; for exterior scenes, we can only shoot under cloud cover. In a normal movie case, it is a beautiful sunny day, you go, ‘Oh great, we get to shoot.’ In our case, when it’s a beautiful sunny day, we’re like, ‘Oh great, we can’t shoot’ because vampires can’t be outside in the sun."

Twilight In Entertainment Weekly

Unfortunately I can’t post the scans without breaking copyright law, but in this week’s Entertainment Weekly print edition. There is a fabulous picture of Robert Pattinson (Edward) attacking Cam Gigadet (James).

The caption of the pictures reads:

"VAMP-TASTIC
In this exclusive first look at Catherine Hardwicke’s adaptation of Twilight, immortal enemies Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and James (Cam Gigandet) are at each other’s throats over a teenage girl. "

Thanks to CaliKalie for the heads-up

EDITED:  Stephenie has also posted a different picture of Cam on her website.

Which store is yours?

It seems there is some confusion on the parts of our members based on some emails and a thread on our message boards.

Twilight Teez is not affiliated with the Lexicon. They are run Schadeboy and his wife(whose Lex name I used to know and now it escapes me) They sell tee shirts, bracelets, and hats. Other than being friendly, Internet neighbors, we have no connection. They are currently having some server problems that Seth referenced on Stephenie’s site. They are still very much in business.

The Twilight Lexicon Store items support the running of this site. In case anyone is wondering, the server to run us costs more than $300 a month. If you are going to a The Host signing and want a The Host tee shirt, we have them.  We also have a variety of other things some of which are displayed below.

The Host Tour

Specifics on sites, on sale ticket dates, and signing dates can be found on Stephenie’s website.

Note that there are very specific signing rules in place largely due to the volume of people anticipated to attend each event. These rules are listed below. Our discussion forums will have a thread on each event location so fans in a give area can hook up.

  • You must have a ticket to attend any of the events, there is limited capacity for every event so get your tickets early as events are bound to sell out (except Mall of America where we are not restricting attendance).
  • Please note the date to obtain tickets for each location as it varies for every event.
  • Each ticket for the event requires the purchase of The Host (price details for each event are included below).
  • Stephenie’s presentation will begin with a discussion on The Host and then answer questions which have been pre-selected from questions submitted at the event (fans will have a chance to write down questions when they arrive at the venue — this is on a first come, first serve basis, she will not be able to get to all questions).
  • Stephenie will only personalize copies of The Host (personalize means puts your name in the book, i.e. "To Sarah").
  • She will only autograph 2 books in the Twilight Saga per customer (except for the Mall of America event where she is only signing The Host).
  • Stephenie will only sign books — no posters, t-shirts, etc.
  • You may take pictures during the presentation, but no photos are allowed during the autographing
  • If you can not attend these events, many of the stores are taking orders for The Host and you can order a signed copy, call the stores for more details.

Host Tour Announced Tomorrow and Socks For Mike

It was announced on Stephenie’s site that tomorrow they will give out details regarding The Host Tour.  Because of the massive crowds drawn to Stephenie’s Eclipse signings (1,000’s, some people with 25 books in a backpack in tow) the upcoming events will all be ticketed

Although we don’t have details on this yet, it is VERY likely that these tickets will be limited and will therefore sell out very quickly (my personal gut instinct says a matter of hours). Additionally, since it is The Host signing tour, it is probable that that is the only book that will be personalized.  So if you are looking to attend an event, make sure you get up early and see exactly what the directions are for the signing site you want to go to and take action.  Don’t wait.

Shameless plug here. The Lexicon is a free site for anyone to view, but with a minimum of 20,000 hits on the blog on a slow day, it’s not free to run.  To help us defray our server costs, chat room, PO BOX, and various other things that pop up from time to time, we have our CafePress store that features a variety of Twilight and now THE HOST items. I

Now on to something fun, frivolous, and…well…just plain goofy. In our recent interview with Mike Welch, the actor who will be playing Mike Newton in Twilight, he mentions packing and not being able to find any socks. Now, for those of you who read the interview, pretty much one of the first things you notice is the off-beat sense of humor Mike has. So, we had an idea. Why not have the fans send him socks so he’s never without?

So, if you would like to participate, drop Mike a note and pair of socks. You can order socks through our Amazon shop.  Here, here, and here are just a few samples.(OK, things I never anticipated, I’ve been asked his sock size. YIKES! I have no idea. He’s 5’10" so I’m thinking he probably doesn’t have small feet.)

Edi Gathegi Interview Part Two

As promised, here is part two of the Edi interview. Again the Twilight Lexicon would like to express our sincere gratitude to Edi for taking the time out of his busy schedule to give us such a detailed interview.  Thanks, also to Cocoa, who was our reporter.

Here are some snippets:

"We see each other practically everyday. Rachelle and I had brunch yesterday morning then gorged ourselves on doughnuts. Is that wrong? Dessert after BREAKFAST?! "

"It’s wild to think that all these fans and this amazing story turning into a hugely anticipated movie, began with a DREAM just a few years ago. Quite inspirational. "

"Laurent is a vampire through and through. He is a natural predator. A killing machine. "

MTV WANTS TO KNOW WHAT TO CALL TWILIGHT FANS

MTV has apparently gotten the messages that a lot of people are not happy with Mike Welch referring to the fandom as Twi-hards.  In fact they seem only vaguely aware that Mike made up that term less than two months ago and it was not in usage before that.  In their infinite wisdom they seem to only have looked as far as the IMDB boards for alternate names, and have included the name of a clique in the IMDB boards as an option.

So before we get stuck with a name you HATE,  Go give them an opinion as to what you would prefer to be called.

On a personal note, it’s always seemed to me that fans have called themselves Twilighters  since the books came out, and then would maybe indicate that they were a Lexiconer, a T&D, a or a MySpacer etc. if they were trying to find other people from the website they most frequently hang out on.

Pel~

EDITED:  Nice response time! When I put this up there were 27 responses on MTV, there are now 231, and that was less than an hour ago. Over 200,000 people viewed our blog yesterday. YOU may not be able to vote in the general US election, but you do have a vote in this, so go and be heard with whatever your preference is.

Anna Kendrick Article on MTV

Anna Kendrick, who plays Jessica in the Twilight movie, had an interview with MTV. Thanks to multiple people who brought this up.

Edi Gathegi Interview Part One

Edi Gathegi,  who plays Laurent in the Twilight movie,  was kind enough to give our roving reporter, Cocoa, a spectacular interview. It’s detailed, witty, and gives you fabulous insight into what a dedicated performer Edi is. Thanks again to Edi for taking the time out to share thoughts with Twilight fans!

Just a few teasers:

"I happened into an acting class my junior year of college and fell in love with the craft. In high school I totally laughed at the "theater geeks", and end up being one professionally. Ironic? Yeah… "

"I’m usually the one playing pranks on the cast. For this film, I have this valley girl character named Kelly…"

"One word. Vampire. My dirty little secret is that I have always wanted to play a vampire but I have never really been attracted to Vampire films…"
