Next Movie: Why Nothing Is the Next Twilight

twilight-booksThis is probably one of the best articles that we have read in a long time. Next Movie combines some serious analysis and a tongue-in-cheek approach to why nothing out there right now is “The Next Twilight” or for that matter “The Next Harry Potter”. Their Oprah and Zuckerberg comparison is spot on. In fact we’re going to use their quote the next time someone asks us that “Next Twilight” question.

“Hollywood is all about finding the next hot thing, whether that’s a script, an actor, a director, a genre (vampires anyone?) or the ultimate discovery, a lucrative film series.

The seven “Harry Potter” movies have so far netted over $6 billion, while the first three installments of “The Twilight Saga” have earned just under $1.8 billion. That’s nearing “Oprah” money, people! (As opposed to “Potter,” which is nearing “Zuckerberg” money… but we’d rather be Oprah.)…

It seems like every other week we’re hearing buzz about some book being adapted for the big screen that its producers hope can be “The next ‘Twilight.'” News flash, producers: There’s only, and will only ever be, one “Twilight.”

Check out the rest on Next Movie.

In our opinion, the biggest reason there isn’t a Next Twilight or Harry Potter yet, is that there is no book that has reached the epic level of midnight release and 1,000’s of people on line for an author signed copy of a book. Don’t get us wrong, things like The Hunger Games and The Mortal Instruments series have done well, but they aren’t at that Oprah and Zuckerberg level cited by Next Movie. Cassie Clare and Suzanne Collins can still walk the streets without press hounding them. When a book series hits that level of excitement ( and usually it takes 2-3 books for that to happen with more books in the series to come) then we will believe that we have “The Next Twilight”

Noel Fisher is Platinum Blonde For Breaking Dawn

Noel Fisher who plays Vladimir in Breaking Dawn is a natural blonde; however, looking at the red carpet videos from Battle LA that were shot on Tuesday night, Noel is now really, really blonde…like platinum. He flew to the Battle LA premiere directly from the set of Breaking Dawn.

So what do you think of the look? Noel is at the 3:30 mark in the first video.

Breaking Dawn Footage at Comic Con?

Given past history, fans have been assuming that there will be some sort of panel related to Twilight and Breaking Dawn at this years Comic-Con in San Diego.  However we, personally, have yet to have anything verified by Summit Entertainment.  Clevver TV put out this report based on something they read at TheHDRoom.com that was posted on Feb. 5, 2011.  It’s a story covering the fact that Comic Con sold out as quickly as it did based on the possibility of seeing some big names at the event.  We got our tickets because we, like so many of you, do hope for something from Summit.  But again, we repeat, we have had no actual confirmation of any footage or any celebrities from the movie being there.  As soon as we do, we will let you know.

Isle Esme House in Brazil In Danger of Destruction

Blog TwiBrasil tipped us off to this one. It seems that the house where they shot Breaking Dawn’s honeymoon scenes is in an environmentally protected area, and may have to come down. Read the original Portuguese and the translation on Blog TwiBrasil.

Hopefully all the footage shot there is fine because reshoots on that location are not looking good as of now.

What’s Michael Welch Up To?

We just heard from Mike Welch’s team and he’s got a bunch going on:

For starters, Mike just completed a (short film) with veteran actor Erick Avari called Chasing Eagle Rock. He is currently shooting a lead role in a new Indie Film. More to come on that.

Bones episode “The Feet on the Beach” Air Date: April 7 or 14. They have been told 2 different possibilities. Please check local listing. They’re shooting the body farm episode this week, which features Mike (with whom Nathan and Bones creator Hart Hanson worked on CBS’ Joan of Arcadia) guest-starring as a grad student.

The episode description reads: “They find body parts that have been washed up on the shore between Canada and the United States, and they trace them back to a flood that occurred at a body farm. A body farm is a forensics apology lab at a university where they put corpses in various different situations and environments to study how they decompose.”

Mike’s $5.00 Buck Club reached the Goal to drill a well in South Africa and had money left over to repair another well. thirstproject.org

Mike has made a commitment to Co Chair “Walk on the Horizon”, a fund raiser for adults with disabilities in June. The person who raises the most money with have lunch with Mike. http://www.newhorizons-sfv.org .

From their site: “Join us on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at California State University – Northridge as we walk to fulfill the dreams of adults with developmental disabilities.” (Mike has not been put up on their web-site yet, but lunch is confirmed and he will be there if he is working.)

To us Mike embodies the concept of the working actor. He does a ton of projects each year from live theatre to television to movies. Mike is also super involved with many charitable projects as he always has been. Last year Mike toured with the USO teaching acting classes overseas to children with parents in the military. Good luck to Mike on all his projects!

Next Movie Talks With Angela Sarafyan About SXSW and Breaking Dawn

Angela Sarafyan who plays Tia in Breaking Dawn is doing some press to promote her indie flick,American Animal ,that is headed to the South By Southwest (AKA SXSW) film festival. Next Movie just caught up with her:

“Angela Sarafyan is on top of her game and playing the field. In the last year alone, the young actress has dabbled in TV (co-starring with Colin Hanks on “The Good Guys”), big-budget tentpoles (playing Tia in “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”) and somehow finding time to shoot an indie or two.

Next week, Sarafyan will be at SXSW in Austin, Texas to premiere her latest film “American Animal,” written, directed and co-starring Matt D’Elia. In the movie, Sarafyan plays Angela, a friend of Jimmy (D’Elia) who, along with Jimmy’s roommate and her friend (also named Angela), becomes sucked into his madcap world of pop culture and personal torture. Part comedy, part drama and like nothing you’d expect.

Sarafyan talked to us about the innovative process of working on “American Animal,” along with details on why shooting a “Twilight” movie isn’t that different then a tiny, micro-budget indie.”

See more on Next Movie.
