Paul Wesley talks Vampire Diaries and Robert Pattinson Comparisons

On September 10th the CW will debut The Vampire Diaires, a show based on the LJ Smith novels. Paul Wesley is set to play Stefan, the good vampire in comparison to Damon the bad vampire and his brother, played by Ian Somerhalder.

IESB.net recently interveiwed Paul Wesley, talking about his role as Stefan and what we can expect from the show.

Q: In acting terms, the standard for this kind of role now is Robert Pattinson in Twilight. Because of that, is there anything that you’re doing to steer yourself further away from that portrayal?

Paul: Well, prior to shooting the pilot, I had never seen Twilight. I specifically went out of my way to not watch Twilight because I didn’t want it to influence me, in any way, because I knew that it was a similar subject matter. Now, I’ve actually never watched the movie in its entirety, but I’ve seen parts of it. And, I don’t think that it would be wise for any actor to make any judgments on their character, or decisions based on anyone else. If there are similarities to Robert Pattinson’s character in Twilight, so be it.

I take the scripts that Kevin and Julie write, and I do my honest, best portrayal. Any similarities are an after-effect. This is a weekly series, and there’s so much going on. There are so many new relationships. There is a lot going on in the show with vampires, but then there are personal relationships between all the characters. There are non-vampires everywhere.

Q: Who’d win in a fight: Edward Cullen or Stefan?

See the answer HERE

Peter Facinelli is a “draw” at a Red Cross Event in Virginia

Taking a brief break from fight training ,Peter Facinelli attended a Red Cross Event in Virginia on Saturday.  The event was a blood drive and signing  and plenty of people showed up for both!Red Cross officials said a couple thousand donors came to the blood drive.

Here is a fan encounter from Linda who attended the event:

We got to the mall a little before 12 and there was a huge crowd of mostly teens and their Moms.  It was so chaotic at first that we accidentally stood in the wrong line for 20 minutes and ended up at the very end of the real line.  Everyone was told that it was a $25 admission to get him to sign an autograph and $40 for a picture with him (proceeds to go to the Red Cross).  In the beginning they also  offered to personalize the professional pictures, but they turned out to be too time consuming.
Even after a grueling red-eye from Vancouver, he came out smiling and looking very upbeat.  During the time between autographs, he would sit down on the side of the stage for pictures and talk to the screaming girls by the stage.  His manager and the rest of the staff that were there were trying to move things along quickly, but he still stopped to give hugs, talk to the fans, and answer questions.
The people at the end of the line were very worried that they would wait and never get to see him, but one of his staff walked around and assured everyone that Peter had pledged to stay as long as people were willing to pay for his autograph.  Around 2pm he actually walked to the back of the line and said something to the people waiting, but it was impossible to hear him over the ear-piercing screams of the girls.  At about 3:30, the staff came around again and announced that the photographer was leaving at 4pm and they would only be able to do personal photos and autographs after that.  This of course caused some hysteria in the line, but I got through just before 4pm so I’m not sure what happened with that.
I really wanted to tell him while I was up there how much I appreciated him taking the time to do that for such a great charity, and maybe get one of those hugs he was giving out, but instead I think I just said “thanks for doing this” and kept repeating my name for the autograph.  Oh how the nerves kick in when you’re in the vicinity of such a handsome devil.  He was very friendly, however, and said, “Oh, Linda is my sister’s name!”  I don’t know that he will want to go through this experience again, but he was such a lovely person that I consider it four hours well spent.
The picture of the blonde girl with the gray sweater with him is me.   You can see in that picture where a local Halloween store painted a backdrop for the photos which I thought was nice.

Jacob’s New Moon Song Poll

Ok I know it has been awhile since we last had a poll.  Things were very hectic for me this summer so unfortunately this was not posted way back when we asked for song suggestions but it’s here now!!  So below you will find Jacob’s New Moon Song Poll with links to each song except for Everlasting Friend because I couldn’t find one. =(  And before I get a bunch of emails and a ton of comments I understand that Fix You by Coldplay is technically an Edward song according to Stephenie’s playlist however an overwhelming number of people thought it fit for Jacob as well so I included it. OK the reason people chose Fix You for Jacob is because it is a Jacob song!!! Clearly need to get some more coffee.

As always this poll is for fun and has no bearing on the New Moon Soundtrack. Enjoy!

Phoenix TwiTour Day Two

So TwiTour Day one…wow…just wow. Cool new stuff we learned:

1. Mike Welch can play the drums and do comedy song routines from Dreamgirls to Queen. He’s also an incredible backup dancer.

2. Catherine Hardwicke said that the 4 finalists (who she called bachelor 1, 2, 3, 4) for the part of Edward Cullen were Jackson Rathbone, Ben Barnes, and Shiloh Fernandez. She said to watch for Shiloh because she predicts that he’s going places.

3. Catherine said two Twilight stars (one male and one female) have auditioned for her version of Hamlet.

4. Edi Gathegi was chased around the New Moon set by styrofoam green cows that were then replaced by CGI wolves when doing the wolf attack scene. He said it’s hard to keep a straight face when you’re being chased by green cows.

5. Edi just saw New Moon in a private movie theater with Stephenie Meyer and said he was nervous seeing the movie with Stephenie and he’s always nervous about seeing himself on film. Said the movie is fabulous, and amazing.

6. Gil Birmingham on acoustic guitar at 12:30AM is so worth staying up for. His repertoire runs from blues, to light rock, to a Mexican sound that then blends into folk. And, oh yeah, the man can sing!

Bella’s Truck Raising Money For Charity

The Twilight Parents Examiner has an interview with the owner of Bella’s truck from the Twilight movie.

“Sterling Biegart fits the image of a typical seventeen year old. She’s been involved in musical theater since she was six, she’s a responsible babysitter, and she has her college sights set on Yale or Julliard. But truthfully, she’s actually an old soul wrapped up in a Bella-aged body. And she’s about the luckiest girl around.

Sterling is the proud owner of Bella’s truck.”

Vampire Baseball Pictures Are Up

Our favorite blogger, Maggie, who at this point has done so much cool stuff that were losing count (worked on the set of Twilight, was at the UK premiere, obtained the non-actor panels at TwiCon…)was the official photographer for the Vampire Baseball event in Portland. She’s now been given the go ahead to release the photos.

Exclusive Interview: From New Moon to Nurse Jackie with Peter Facinelli

IESB.net recently interviewed Peter Facinelli where he talked candidly about becoming an actor and his dual doctor roles.

IESB: What initially attracted you to acting? Was there someone or something that inspired you to do it, or did you just know that you wanted to be a performer?

Peter: No, I was the opposite of a performer. I was really shy, when I was growing up. I saw a movie called Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in third grade, and I thought Paul Newman and Robert Redford looked like they were having a really good time, and I said, “That’s what I want to do, when I grow up.” I always was inspired by Paul Newman and Robert Redford to want to be an actor, but I never really did anything about it because I was shy. So, all through high school, I never did a play.

Not until college, did I start to do acting. I transferred into NYU from St. John’s University and started studying theater. I was going to take law because it seemed to impress people in my family when I said, “I want to be a lawyer when I grow up.” One time, I told them that I wanted to be an actor and they all looked at me like I had five heads. The next time they asked me what I wanted to be, I said, “A lawyer,” and I got a lot of oohs and aahs in the family. When you watch movies and you watch Law & Order, it looks so interesting.

IESB: When did you realize that you were not meant for a law career?

Peter: I did one year at St. John’s University, and I studied pre-law and I worked for a law firm, and I realized that lawyers spend most of their time trying not to go to court. They look for precedents so they don’t have to go to court. They told me that court was the last place you want to be. I was like, “Well, that’s what I want to do. I like the courtroom drama,” and they were like, “Well, then you need to do something else.”

So, I threw away the courtroom drama and just went straight for the drama, and I transferred to NYU. I told my parents, “To be a good lawyer, I have to be a good actor, so I’m going to take acting classes at NYU and study theater there,” and they bought it. And then, I started working, right out of NYU. So, when my parents realized it was something that I could do, they were behind it.
