100 Monkeys Named A Band to Watch by Rolling Stone

Of the many acts at this years Bamboozle festival, Rolling Stone picked five bands that stood out, and 100 Monkeys made the cut.

“100 Monkeys: This eccentric Cali act have a built-in buzz magnet — bandmember Jackson Rathbone, also known as one of Twilight‘s famous vampires. Their spazzy, energetic Saturday set blended tribal sounds with vocals recalling Jim Morrison’s baritone croon. The “can-this-be-real?” factor ran high thanks to song titles like “The Monkey Song,” lyrics like “free, free, free the beast” and five guys in bandanas jumping around and playing hand drums, trumpet and flute. The band’s latest release, Grape, is out now.”

Congrats to Jackson Rathbone and  the entire band!

Jackson Rathbone Directs Music Video

Jackson Rathbone directed the video which features the music, lyrics, and is sung by the late Spencer Bell ( a talented musician and friend of Jackson Rathbone who died of adrenal cancer). Jackson’s band, 100 Monkeys, will be playing at a variety of events that help fund adrenal cancer research. You can get more information at the Spencer Bell website or the 100 Monkeys website. Their next concert to help the fund is in Dallas in April.

TY to Deborah for sending this over.

Sleeping Giants: New 100 Monkeys Music Video

100 Monkeys Jam at NewCon

Newcon is definitely a new kind of convention.  The gathering is small by design and fans can experience an intimate setting with actors and Monkeys alike.  Today the acting/ modeling panel which had Jackson Rathbone, Kimbra Hicky, and Jose Zuniga, was a great oppurtunity for fans to ask questions and gain inside knowledge from three very different perspectives. Fan response has been very positve.

Here is a sample of the 100 Monkeys Jam session that happened earlier today.

Oh and here is a riddle for all the Monkey Junkies out there What do you get when you mix 100 Monkeys and and the Viper Room?? Answer to come later in the week!!

100 Monkeys: The Photographer’s View

The Jackson Rathbone oriented site, I Felt Hope, has secured an interview (not to mention some amazing pictures where we are respecting the request not to cross post) with Phoenix Taylor. He is a rising star in the photography world. He has covered numerous subjects including Jackson and the band as well as Jackson’s sister, and fellow visual artist, Kelly.

“You spent some time with 100 Monkey’s recently during Twicon. Describe what that experience was like especially from a photographer’s point of view.
In one paragraph of an interview? Yeah right! I will have to say, I spent almost 8 days with the 100 Monkeys and I would relive those days everyday again and again, like Groundhogs Day, for the rest of my life.
Well… maybe that is too much. But, you get the idea. There was not a moment with them, living with them, working with them, seeing them with their fans, cooking with Uncle Larry (barely) and just chilling with them that was not an amazing experience. I can not stress enough the amount of character the band has, let alone Jackson Rathbone! And, I know that is who people want to know about. The man was born for great things… from his music, to his acting and to his character as a human being. I don’t think I have met a man that could have more of a chip on his shoulder and yet there is absolutely NONE to be found! And, that alone speaks volumes about these guys!”

I was welcomed in as one of them, asked my opinions, heard and then released to seek out my vision for the band and they did everything they could to be what I needed them to be… which ironically, was just themselves!

See the rest on I Felt Hope.

100 Monkeys on the Eclipse Soundtrack?

MTV caught up with Jackson Rathbone on the set of the indie film, The Girlfriend, and asked him about playing on the Eclipse soundtrack:

“It’s been talked about, but it’s one of those things,” Rathbone said when asked if he had been approached to have songs on the previous soundtracks. “We’re going to be kind of giving some of our songs off of our upcoming album for them to see if they want to put on ‘Eclipse.’ ”

It would be a pretty big deal for Jackson and the band if they made it onto the soundtrack.  100 Monkeys members are heavily involved in the Girfriend soundtrack, not to mention individual film projects like Jackson’s The Last Airbender.

Check out the full story on MTV.

How would you feel about 100 Monkeys on the soundtrack? Any of their songs have an Eclipse vibe to you?
