Hillywood: The New Moon Parody

The wait is over. The masters of parody, the Hillywood Show, have come out with their New Moon parody. They wrote in to tell us that:

“This production will have you howling! NEW MOON PARODY by THE HILLYWOOD SHOW™ soars to a whole new level! Whether you’re Team Edward or Team Jacob this production (actually filmed in LA PUSH & FORKS, WA) takes you through a ride of exciting, different moods without the help of Jasper! See for yourself why NEW MOON PARODY by THE HILLYWOOD SHOW™ has been the most anticipated parody in all things TWILIGHT.

NOTE: Bella’s truck in this production is the OFFICIAL screen-used truck seen in SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT’S: TWILIGHT! Special thanks to Sterling Beigert!”

The Great Eclipse Trailer Debate

Last night rumor ran wild on the Internet about there being a public, pre-screening of Eclipse. After laughing really hard, Pel’s reaction was, “No one is test screening ANYTHING right now. They’re all watching Avatar & saying I’m gonna get you James Cameron and your little dog too. If they’re test screening Eclipse this weekend then I’m having a full frontal threesome snog with Peter Facinelli and Billy Burke.”

The reason for this is that is doesn’t make any kind of sense for them to publicly test screen what is going to be one of the hottest movies of 2010 6 months ahead of time during Christmas Week when no one is working. They don’t need to test screen Eclipse 6 months out as a rough cut with CGI not in place in front of a general audience. They do that with little known indies that they aren’t sure are going to make it, not one of the biggest summer blockbusters of 2010. Will the have company insiders and cast members see it? Sure. Not unknown audience members.

This then lead to a discussion of when will we see a trailer or teaser. David Slade recently said he’d have a New Year’s surprise, so what could that surprise be. Here’s what we think is likely and what isn’t. we have no insider info here. we haven’t been tipped off.  This is our opinion based on usual industry standards, analyzing opinions of experts,  and our experience.

Trailer out at Golden Globes: Not Likely

  • As much as we love the Twilight Saga, the Golden Globes isn’t a Twilight kind of film. The news stories coming off of the Globes are all going to be about who won, who should have won, and what this now means for the Oscar race.  In short, they aren’t really looking to mention anyone’s trailer. It would take a backseat, and when you have a movie like Eclipse, you want that to be the lead story.

Trailer out at People’s Choice Awards: Not Likely

  • Now unlike the Golden Globes this is EXACTLY the kind of awards show where you might see a Twilight Saga trailer debut. However, timing is everything. The People’s Choice Awards are on January 6th. If we were going to be seeing something Eclipse the PR moguls would have put the word out already.

Trailer out for Remember Me: Likely

  • March 12 is a great time for a trailer to debut. New Moon will be winding down it’s box office run, and they’ll want to focus on the next best thing.
  • Unlike Bandslam, which really no one wanted to see teens or adults–let alone see because a trailer was playing in front of it, the word on the forums is that everyone is interested in Remember Me. The Remember Me trailer that aired in front of New Moon sealed it. Robert Pattison playing moody bad boy redeemed by Emile DeRavin with father Pierce Brosnan—we’re having a hard time finding a downside to this movie.
  • This brings up the question, will the trailer get taped and go viral online?  No question about it; however, if it’s also in front of a movie that people are actually more interested in they also opt to see it on the big screen as well as play it online over, and over again.

Trailer on New Moon DVD: Likely

  • Amazon and other distribution sources are putting the DVD release at mid-March. This makes sense given the timing of the Twilight DVD.
  • Again talking about timing we’re putting to rest one product and moving towards the next, kind of a no brainer. On top of that think sales/rentals 20 years from now. You want to get your audience to rent/buy the sequel. How do you ensure that? Put a teaser on the DVD features.

So what the heck was David Slade Tweeting about? Taking a guess here, we are going to go for three possibilities. One, a still from the movie. Two, the date the teaser/trailer will air. Three, a look at a character driven movie poster.

Now if you want another opinion, check out what Larry had to say.

Convention Advice: Where to Spend Those Twilight Christmas Dollars

We’ve gotten a bunch of emails from people who received Christmas money and they want to spend it at a Twilight event and they are asking us which one they should spend it at. Here’s our problem, we really can’t make a recommendation because we have an obvious bias as we appear at various events (which we suppose is a bit of a recommendation in of itself in that we wouldn’t be there if we didn’t think highly of those companies, but that’s not to say that other companies don’t have their qualities.). So here’s what we are going to do. Below is a repost of some information that we have given out before, that hopefully people with cash to burn will find helpful.

Question: What type of convention should I choose?

Answer: Make a list of what you really want. In fact shoot for overkill. Now, see which convention best meets your needs and expectations, and how much it will cost to meet those needs. If all you really want is to see an actor Q&A you can probably do that for around $25 on a day pass, but if you want photos, autographs, dances…the price goes up and every group is different regarding what you get for your money. Maybe you aren’t looking for a actor heavy convention, maybe you just want an event where you can meet other fans. The point is think about your priorities and see what works for you.

Question: How can you tell if a con is going to be any good?

Answer: Well, with anything entertainment related that’s a really subjective question. Everyone has different tastes as to what they like and don’t like. Here are some quick things to look for that tend to mean a con is going to be good as far as most people are concerned:

  • Experience: The people running it have done this before and/or have hired an events planning company that has done this before. If they have run it before what is their reputation? Google, twitter, webforums are your friend! Run a search on the company/event/promoter’s names. What are the results?
  • Fan Input: The people running the con or acting as consultants are actually fans of the material, and really knowledgeable about it and what fans would like. They aren’t just guessing; they know because they are right in the heart of the fan experience.  For example, if you saw a Twilight con featuring fangs, lots of blood, and coffins…RUN QUICKLY!
  • Programming:  Cons should be able to tell you what they have in mind for their event (most are three day affairs) beyond vague open socials.  Granted a lot of panels and presentations will depend on who they can get to do the presentations, but they should have some idea as to the possibilities.
  • Talent Appearances: Ok this is tricky. Many cons make offers of having someone famous be available for a Q&A, autograph signing, and maybe even a photo op. Other cons aren’t looking for star power. It depends on their focus. Keep in mind that a star’s appearance is always possible to be cancelled at the last minute. I mean let’s face it, if Speilberg suddenly calls and says “I need you in my movie.”  you don’t say, “Sorry, I have this con I have to be at.” So the moral of the story is, don’t attend a con if the only reason you are going is to see a certain star because they may or may not be there.

Question: Why does it cost so much? How much should it cost?

Answer: That’s another loaded question! Con costs will vary on size, location, events planned. The better question to ask is “what am I getting for my money”. For example, is it one fee that covers everything (socials, panels, dances, screenings, etc.) or is there fine print that nickels and dimes you for other things? When comparing costs check out conventions in other fandoms and see what they are are getting for their fees for conventions that are similar in nature to the type you want to attend. Some good fandoms to investigate are Harry Potter, Dr. Who/Torchwood, Firefly/Serenity, Star Wars, Star Trek.

The best thing we can tell you is read the fine print so that you know exactly what you are getting for your money. What you want out of a convention may be different than what a friend or colleague wants.Make sure you are paying for what you truly want!

Question: Is there any place where we can check out reviews?

Answer: Anyone in marketing will tell you that the single largest thing that sells or sinks any product is word-of-mouth. You can have all the flashy advertising, double speak, and bells and whistles money can buy, but if your consumers aren’t happy and everyone knows it…YIKES! Frequently the best advice that you can get is from people who have attended a particular group’s events before. Sure any given person can have a bad experience at any event, but try to get a variety of opinion. Is it one bad experience or 50 bad experiences?  Twilight Adviser review site has reviews on many events. It’s kind of like a Rate Your Professors site. In any event it certainly, gives you an overview.

Here are a few upcoming items:

Lonely Hearts Club Releases

Over the years many of you may have wondered who that person was next to Stephenie Meyer setting up books for signing, helping organize E-Prom, or letting us know when big new was about to hit. Her name is Elizabeth Eulberg, she’s Stephenie’s publicist, and she has her debut novel, The Lonely Hearts Club, out.

You can catch Elizabeth’s website here and her Twitter here. Congrats to Elizabeth.

Peter Facinelli Top Celebrity Tweeter of the Year

E! had readers vote on who their top celebrity Tweeter was and Peter Facinelli came in number one.

It’s pretty amazing when you consider that Ashton Kutcher, who has more Twitter followers than the populations of several nations, came in second. Peter has really taken the possibilities of Twitter to a new level raising money for multiple charitable causes.

Top 10 Twilight Moments of 2010

Everybody has a list. Well…it’s a new year and a new decade so you’d expect as much. Anyway, one of the best lists out there was put together by Amanda Bell, the Twilight Examiner.

“It’s officially 2010, and you know what that means . . . another year of Twilight!

2009 was a great year for Twilight fans, and we’ve already discussed this fact thoroughly. Well, 2010 seems to be shaping up – already – to be a great one as well.

Of course, the year will hold ups, downs, and in-betweens . . . and there’ll be a few surprises to be sure, but right now there are several coming events of the year that’ll make 2010 another year for Twilight fans!”
