Hi everyone!

I’m heading out for the evening and won’t be back at my computer until after you all have Eclipse in your little hands.  Pel has agreed to open the boards as soon as she gets back to her computer.  Since she is in New York, she will get her book before me.  The boards will reopen sometime after midnight tonight for Eclipse discussion. 

Because we have had so many of you join us in the last week or so, we will not open the entire message board system for a few days yet.  What you will see is the introduction forum as well as the technical difficulties forum and anything pertaining to official announcements from Stephenie or the lexicon.  The Eclipse discussion forum will be open along with the character discussion forum.  But that’s it for now.  This is to help us keep an eye on things for the first few days and make sure that everyone new to the site has a good feel for how things are run. 

Also, as a precaution against 100 people starting duplicate threads on the same topic, the only people who will be able to start a new thread in the Eclipse forum will be a member of the admin team.  We have set up a thread where you can request a topic if you have a good idea for discussion that isn’t currently posted.  I have tried to foresee the main topics of interest for the book and have started about 20 threads all ready myself, but there is bound to be something I’ve missed!  LOL!

Another thing you need to be aware of is that the board will be full of spoilers.  PLEASE don’t come into the forums without having finished the book!  We are not putting restrictions on topics for banners and signatures, so spoilers could be found anywhere on the boards.  We will keep spoilers off the front page here, but we can’t promise that for our message boards. 

Remember that Stephenie will be on Good Morning America tomorrow morning.  40 lucky member of the lexicon will be in the audience supporting her, but you can do the same by tuning in and cheering her on!

On a last note, I want everyone to do Stephenie proud tonight and tomorrow as you go out and get your books.  Be smart and show your book sellers that this is a hot item and that Stephenie and her fans deserve the best!  Enjoy the book, and head back over here to talk about it with us!  Remember, I’ve had to keep my mouth shut for over a year now and I am DYING to talk about it!

As an addition to Alphie’s notice before the boards re-open, I would like to remind people, especially newcomers, of a few rules:

1- Avatars must be 200×200 px or smaller. (2 inches by 2 inches)

2- Signatures must be 250px TALL at the most. ( For you non-tech people that’s 2.5 inches high. Hold a ruler up to the screen if you have to and measure from the white line that divides your post from your signature to the bottom of your post. All text, graphics, links and tickers must be included in the height.)

3- Use the search function! Our wonderful Mayde has spent a lot of time organizing a list of commonly duplicated topics in the Quench Your Thirst forum for you to peruse. Put her hard work to good use!

4- Respect other people’s opinions! This is crucial to our community thriving. Just because someone’s opinion differs from your own does not mean they’re wrong. Listen to what they have to say. You might end up seeing that they have a good point.

5- Respect the mods and admins of this site! We do this for love of Stephenie and love of the world she has created. No one is paying us to do this and we all have jobs, lives, and families in the "real world." If we ask you to do something or lock a thread or anything like that, we have a good reason. I promise. If you have a legitimate complaint, PM one of the admins (Alphie, Pel, or myself) and politely tell us what the problem is. We will be more than happy to help.

If you do not follow the graphics rules posted here, a mod at the lexicon may choose to send you a PM. If you receive a PM and do not change it in a week, an admin will be forced to remove your avatar or sig. You will notice that I have already done this to a fair amount of people. For those of you who find your signature to be not as you left it and see other people who have huge signatures, please keep in mind that there are over 4,000 members and I am but one admin. I could not possibly find and fix EVERYONE. I am hoping that people who have overlarge banners and signatures will take notice of the changes that have been made and change their signatures accordingly.

I am super excited about tonight and I hope that everyone has as much fun as the staff of the lex plans to!

It was brought to our attention that there is an interview in the Aug. 10th issue of Entertainment Weekly with Stephenie!  If you can’t wait for your own copy, you can read it now at the EW website. 

Several of you have commented on the way the interviewer assumed these books were only for 12 year old girls.  Not that there is anything worng with 12 year old girls, but I found that a bit odd, too, given that the majority of us here are older than that.  If you want to write to EW about the fact that you are an older fan of Stephenie’s, you can do so by e-mailing [email protected]. 

And as a side note, the arguement that went on in the comments section was just out of control.  People – we all know that there are mature 12 year olds.  We have several 12 year old members here that are wonderfully intelligent.  However, what the majority of people were upset over was that the interview made it sound like only a 12 year old would appreciate it.  Again, we all know that Stephenie’s fan base is huge  – so THAT is where the problem lies in the article, not that a 12 year old enjoys the series, but that EVERYONE of ALL AGES can enjoy the series.  So STOP FIGHTING ABOUT IT.

Pel is currently deleating a whole gob of posts for the last topic here on the main page.  People – this main page area is NOT a message board!  It is for you to leave us a message that may be important pertaining to the topic posted here.  Having a chat with your friends should be done in e-mail or in instant messenger, but not here on our main frame. 

For example – we got a very interesting comment from Christine who works at Waldensbooks about a special discount you can get for your book on August 7th.  Here is what she said:

Hello, I work at a Waldenbooks and in our message broadcast we were told to look out for a cell phone coupon for Eclipse. Its through a company called 4info the coupon will get you 40% off at Borders and Waldens–otherwise it will be 30% off. To get the coupon you text 44636 with the message VAMPIRE they then send instructions on how to get the coupon–it will only work for cell phone users but it is a great coupon. Also its only good for 5he 7th. Since you can’t find any information on it on the 4info website or on Borders — I thought I’d post a message on your board but its closed for now. Let me know if my instructions are not clear enough–I had to figure it out on my own and there may be an easier way.

As many of you know, Barnes and Noble made a huge mistake and started shipping out copies of Eclipse early.  Some of you did get your books and we are very happy that you have kept the spoilers off the Lexicon.  However, for those of you who had your shipment STOPPED and did not get your book even though you did order it from Barnes and Noble may need to reorder your book. 

THIS ONLY APPLIES TO PEOPLE WHO PRE-ORDERED THE BOOK FROM BARNES AND NOBLE!  This has nothing to do with Amazon.com or Borders or any other bookstore.

Let me restate – those of you who ordered from Barnes and Noble and did not get your book in the last few days need to call and check and make sure your book will be delivered to you as previously scheduled.  Seraphyn, one of our great mods here, just spoke to Barnes and Noble herself and was told that her book order was cancled and that she now had to reorder her book.  PLEASE make sure your book is still on order.  I would hate for you to wait and wait and wait  and not get your book. 

In other news… glitch number 5,632 of the week… we had some threads start vanishing from the Lexicon.  We are trying to determine the reason for this mysterious problem, but haven’t solved the issue in full.  One of the threads missing is the Quote of the Day thread.  We will try to get that replaced ASAP.  Hang tight as we try to fix everything.  Thanks for your patience.

Hi all –

I recieved e-mails from both Stephenie and her publicist asking me to close down our message boards until the 7th due in part to a shipping error from a major book chain.  I’ve also been asked to spread this to other message boards and ask them, on behalf of Stephenie who just doesn’t have the time to go and e-mail each and every single message board, to lock down their boards as well.  Many of the main message baords in the HP fandom did this before the release, such as Mugglenet and The Leaky Cauldron. 

So until Eclispe is released on Aug. 7th the message boards here at the Lex will be off limits and closed to all discussion.  The Eclipse Midnight party thread will remain open for two more days so that you can make final arrangements.  We will lock that thread on Friday of this week.  The thread is only to be used for contact or meet up information.  All posts pertaining to discussion of the books in any way in that forum will be deleted.  We will happily reopen all the boards around midnight eastern time on August 7th at which time Eclipse will be discussed in the Eclipse forum.  The message from Stephenie herself follows this post.

As you may be aware, some copies of Eclipse were accidentally shipped early.  As we all just saw with Harry Potter, the shipping of books is an imperfect system and despite the painstaking efforts of many, copies can get out early.  The on-sale date of Eclipse is August 7th, and technically nobody should receive a copy of the book until then.   

I have a big favor to ask of you lucky early readers.  First, I hope you enjoy Eclipse.  When you’re done, I know you’re going to want to talk about with your friends, but please remember how you felt reading it for the first time.  Do you want to ruin that experience for someone else?  I hope not.  Please, for me, and for the other readers, don’t post spoilers on the internet.  Don’t destroy the fun for everybody.  Be kind to each other and my sanity. 

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and devotion to my characters.  Just a few more days, and then we’ll all be discussing Eclipse together.  Hold on!  You can do it!

Chapter 12: Intruder has been updated and added to our New Moon chapters. Many thanks to Taxi for her work on this one.  Becasue of an error on my part, two people ended up working on this chapter.  You can read the discussion questions from both Taxi and Alcyone over on the message boards.

I just got an e-mail from our dear author informing me that from now until August 6th, she will be posting what she is calling the "Eclipse Quote of the Day" in her news section.  As you may know, her brother is her webmaster, and so the timing of said quotes will vary, but he will try to post a new quote every day around 8-9 am EDT.  Stephenie says:

"I will warn you up front that all of these quotes are taken out of context and none of them give anything away. Okay, maybe a few do… "

So if you don’t like spoilers (yeah right!) then you don’t want to read these quotes.  I don’t have permission to post them here, but you can follow this link to her news section every morning and read them for yourself.  I’ve also set up a thread to discuss the quotes and what they might mean.

On another note, she will not be posting chapter one of Eclipse on her website as she had planned.  Since the chapter can be found in the back of the New Moon Special Edition, you’ll have to find a copy and read it there. 

Lastly, set your TiVo to record Good Morning America on August 7th.  Stephenie will be discussing her book live on the air!  This is HUGE news, folks!  Congrats to Stephenie!
