Entertainment Weekly Exclusive

ew

This week’s Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive first look at Catherine Hardwicke’s upcoming book about the making of Twilight. She had been negotiating a way to direct the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s monster-selling sequel New Moon, and the talks had reached the breaking point.  Summit Entertainment offered her a queenly sum to resume her place at the helm – “more money than I or anyone in my family has ever seen,” says Hardwicke – but told her she’d be working with a tight deadline and a modest budget.  Regretfully, she told the executives they needed to find themselves a new director. “I was devastated,” she says. “I really did feel a strong connection to the people around the world that liked the movie – and to Stephenie and the actors.  But I just didn’t think I could make a good movie under those circumstances.”

Hardwicke first began discussing Twilight: Director’s Notebook with Meyer’s publisher last summer, and then Twilight went on to gross over $350 million worldwide (so far). “When the movie made enough money, they thought it was worth it,” says Hardwicke. “They said, ‘Now you have three and a half weeks to do it!’  And I was like, Okay, I’m just going to keep writing until they rip this out of my hands!”

Fans continue to whip themselves into a frenzy online in anticipation of New Moon, which is already deep into pre-production under new director Chris Weitz.  (Hardwicke notes the irony that her replacement is enjoying a better deal than she’d been promised. “I know the budget they were talking about with me – they’ve already gone way beyond that,” she said.)  But she’s done nursing her broken heart. “I’m optimistic that it’s going to be great, and I’m sad that it didn’t work out for me to do it,” she said. “But I’ll do something else cool.”

Hardwicke’s publisher allows EW.com to post two pages online here: www.ew.com/twilightdiary

To see the rest, you’ll have to pick up a copy of the Feb. 20 issue of EW, available here: www.ew.com/twilight2009

For the Seasoned Fan

Now for those of us who think Rob is hot, but are closer in age to Billy and Peter have no fear. You can get you fan fix for the hottest doctor since Grey’s Anatomy and the hottest sheriff since…since…well…there isn’t really a comparison here is there?  Anyway, check out Peter Facinelli and Billy Burke this week!

Peter Facinelli is scheduled to appear on February 13th with his wife, Jennie Garth, on Chelsey Lately, the talk show hosted by Chelsea Handler of Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea! fame. Ty to Chris for the heads up.

In case you missed Billy Burke’s appearance on TNT’s The Closer, have no fear, you can watch the episode online. Look for Billy to make several more appearances this year.

New Moon Countdown Widget

We came across this one over on Widgetbox, which is a really cool site if you’ve never checked them out. Now if only they had a timer that counted down to having our own personal Edward…

Catherine Hardwicke Speaks!

At long last Catherine Hardwicke has broken her silence as to what went down in regards to her no longer being involved with future Twilight films. Until today, we’ve only have a brief press statement put out by Summit’s PR department.

Click here to see Catherine’s full commentary to EW:

“I was devastated,” she says now. “I really did feel a strong connection to the people around the world that liked the movie — and to Stephenie and the actors. But I just didn’t think I could make a good movie under those circumstances.”

Catherine also talks to Entertainment Weekly about what to expect in her upcoming director’s notebook. EW has an exclusive sneak peak.

Peter Facinelli’s Chicago Flashback Interview part 1

Peter talks about his preparation for Carlisle, balancing family life, special touches he added to the character and more.  We have two more segments after this one. You can catch our video on Peter talking about his audition here.

1…hahahaha…2…..hahaha….3….hahaha

Sorry, we were just having a flashback to our childhood and Sesame Street where the count used to laugh as he’d counted. Now we love PBS and the Count as much as the next person, and we’ve also eaten our fill of the equally hokey Count Chocula cereal; however, this is really embarrassing. Edward Cullen is losing to a hand puppet and cereal box icon for favorite vampire. Please vote and save the Twilight Pride!

Justin Chon Preview

Justin Chon stopped by the Forks Prom at the Chicago Flashback Weekend to briefly say hi to fans before his formal Q&A the following day. He’s really sweet. He spent a lot of the time high fiving and giving hugs to fans. He was especially sweet to some of the very young fans who gave him a Valentine’s heart.

The video is short and a little choppy because we took out a lot of random shout outs and hugs. One thing is for sure, you can see why Justin describes himself as “the most random person ever, and a complete goofball”.

Coming up later this week and next we have over two hours of footage to edit and share. So stand by for more!

Jonas Brothers New Moon Hopes

According to MTV, it looks like the Jonas Brothers have jumped on the “put me on the soundtrack” bandwagon. Although the Brothers haven’t seen the movie, they definitely understand it’s wide appeal. According to Joe Jonas, “For a lot of guys, they want superpowers. He’s a vampire, but he’s pretty strong and stuff.”

It seems like every day we get an email in our inbox suggesting a band. Usually it’s an indie, on the rise kind of group that’s stong on lyrics.  So, who do you think should be on the soundtrack?

Happy Birthday Taylor

A very happy birthday to our favorite, buff, werewolf to be!
