Twilight Graphic Novel Information From Little Brown

There is additional information on the graphic novel that was first reported today by EW. Below is the official press release from Little Brown.

Twilight Graphic Novel

Yen Press, the graphic novel imprint of Hachette Book Group, announced that it will publish the highly-anticipated first volume in the graphic novel adaptation of  Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight on March 16, 2010.  Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1 will be released in hardcover for $19.99 ($22.99 CAN) with a first printing of 350,000 copies.  As is typical in graphic novel publishing, due to the length of the prose novel, the book will be divided into two volumes and the release date for the second volume is forthcoming.

Twilight: The Graphic Novel contains selected text from Meyer’s original novel with illustrations by Korean artist Young Kim.  A rare fusion of Asian and Western comic techniques is reflected in this black-and-white graphic novel with color interspersed throughout.  Meyer consulted throughout the artistic process and had input on every panel.

“I’ve enjoyed working on this new interpretation of Twilight,” said Meyer.  “Young has done an incredible job transforming the words that I have written into beautiful images.  The characters and settings are very close to what I was imagining while writing the series.”

Kurt Hassler, Yen Press Publishing Director, said, “Few American publishing properties are better suited to introduce a vast readership to the medium of graphic novel than the phenomenon that is Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight.  Yen Press will certainly continue to expand this audience with the help of Bella and Edward.”

In four years, Stephenie Meyer has become a worldwide publishing phenomenon.  The Twilight Saga’s translation rights have been sold in nearly 50 countries and 85 million copies have been sold worldwide.

Yen Press is an imprint of Hachette Book Group dedicated to publishing graphic novels for adults and young readers.  Yen Press’ focus is primarily on licensed manga, but also publishes across the wide spectrum of the graphic novel market, including, but not limited to: original manga publications, original American comics/graphic novels, webcomics, licensed adaptations, and children’s graphic novels.”

Twilight: The Graphic Novel Volume 1 Coming March 16

EW.com LogoEW has the scoop on this one:

“I’m delighted to announce, exclusively, that Yen Press will publish Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Vol. 1 on March 16, with a first printing of 350,000 copies.  Here’s a first glimpse at the book’s cover, as well as an exclusive peek at one of its panels (for a full ten-page excerpt, and the entire Q&A with Stephenie Meyer, see the issue of EW that goes on sale this Friday).

What strikes me, looking at the book, is how faithfully, and how beautifully, artist Young Kim has translated Meyer’s original vision. Kim, who has a fine arts background—in fact, this is her first foray into graphic novels—didn’t just read the book; she absorbed it. Her Bella is the Bella I had in my mind’s eye the first time I read Twilight; her Edward is the Edward I always imagined. It took me back to reading Twilight pre-movie: Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson faded into the background.

Meyer talked to us about all this, and more. Here are a few snippets from our conversation:

The text of your original novel is boiled down so carefully that it doesn’t feel like anything is missing. Were you the one who did that?

I was definitely involved.  I didn’t do the original “script” for the book, so to speak.  But when I got the dialogue with the images, I did a lot of tinkering. In a couple of places, I asked for missing scenes to be inserted.  For example, the conversation in the car that Bella and Edward have after she faints in Biology.”

Official Twilight Tour Seattle Wrap Up

The Official Twilight Tour in Seattle was fantastic. Some changes to format this time gave fans the opportunity to hear from Lauren from the Official Twilight Facebook Group, Lana Veenker, who helped to cast Twilight, and to hear from Chairwoman Hatch of the Quileute Nation. Pel also got to have a late night bite to eat with the wolfpack.  Sorry no kiss and tell because she promised the guys that anything said at the table was not a blog entry so they could relax and eat their food in piece. However the guys agreed on the following:

  • They wanted to thank the fans for the support. Seriously, it really, really means a lot to them.
  • Alex Meraz also thanks fans for their concern about him losing weight for an upcoming role(that unfortunately he can’t say much about), but he’s fine, not anorexic. Alex told Pel that she could say one thing about the role. He said he will be working with one of Robert Pattinson’s favorite directors on it…so let the guessing games begin.
  • The Seattle local press was also out covering the event.

One of the items that we worked on at the convention was assembling a bag that we are going to auction off for Haiti relief at the end of February. It’s a Little Brown Twilight Saga bag that is not sold in stores. Currently it has over 10 signatures on it. Plus it will be stuffed with (thanks to the generosity of Creation) 3 more autographs, a ton of official merchandise, a Hillywood DVD (thanks to the generosity of Hillywood), the shirt off of Charlie Bewley’s back that he signed (seriously, not even making that up), and more. We are going to put it up on Ebay at the end of February. One thing that we’ve learned from natural disasters is that the need will sadly be there in the months to come, so putting up an auction at the end of February will not go to waste.

    Haiti Relief Charity Twilight Bag

Also starting in February we will resume our Wolfpack Wednesday series where we give away autographs of the wolfpack members; however, we have something extra in store. We realize that many of you are just as big fans of the Volturi as you are the wolfpack. So, in addition to Wolfpack Wednesdays, we’ll be adding in Volturi Venerdì (let’s see who can figure that out first.) And sometimes, because frankly we are running out of creative alliteration and nothing seems to go with Cullen, we’ll have a random Lexicon Lucky Day and give away a random something on any day we feel like it.

Sweethearts Candies Revamping For New Moon

<Sweetheart Candies for New MoonAd Week has the story of how NEC, the company that makes Necco Wafers and the famous candy message hearts, got involved with the Twilight Saga and how it’s fiscally paid off in spades!  Little wonder, at the helm NEC was a woman with years of experience at the Mars candy company. She moved into a new job position at NEC and had the foresight to strike a deal utilizing the Twilight Saga. Little wonder they have some brand new plans for New Moon.

“I wanted to relaunch the Sweethearts brand and bring it to other generations. It was really very much of the baby boomer generation and had not really built relevance with teens, tweens and younger moms. So one of the things I did was seek out a partnership to get teens and tweens engaged — they are really the largest consumers of confections — and align with the equity of the Twilight [motion picture] franchise. We got that partnership before the first movie hit the marketplace, and we created custom products based on the story. Stephanie Myer [author of the Twilight books] actually wrote the phrases [on the candies] for us.”

It makes for a fascinating read. Check it out here.

Robert Pattinson Signed On For Haiti Relief Telethon

According to Marc Malken at E!:

    “Robert Pattinson is on board.

I just got word that the Twilight star has signed on for Friday’s Hope for Haiti telethon. As of right now, it looks like Rob will be the sole presenter in London with performances by Jay-Z and Bono.”
