Hot Topic DVD Release Party Surprise, Hint Number 1

This just in from the folks at Hot Topic, take a guess at what the hint means in the comments. (We’re currently asking for clarification from Hot Topic, but there might be a prize involved for whoever guesses right.):

Twilighters, are you ready for some awesome news? Good, because Hot Topic wants you to hang out with us and celebrate the release of the Twilight DVD! What sounds better than hanging out with fellow fans and being a part of the phenomenon that is Twilight? Nothing, so don’t miss out!

We also have a surprise in store for you on the day of the launch party! Hold on – we can’t tell you yet. But we’re going to give you a new hint each week. Will you be able to figure it out?

Hint: “I Heart Bella!”

Edit: We now have clarification from Hot Topic. I’m going to quote them directly (actually our questions and their answers) because I so don’t want to mess up the wording here:

LEXICON STAFF: You’re giving out a hint a week and this week’s hint is “I Heart Bella”.  So people need to guess this week by responding to our post what that hint means and a random whoever guesses it right gets a prize?

HOT TOPIC RESPONSE: I will be sending a hint out every week.  Today’s hint is I Heart Bella.  People need to ponder and guess what it means and you guys can decide by the fourth hint who ever guessed it right, let me know, and they get some Twilight stuff : )

LEXICON STAFF: OK, so let me get this straight, so after four weeks of hints, whatever the hints are leading up to is a cool something or other and after week 4 we pick someone as a winner who we think guessed it right?  Sorry to be dense but I’m going to get flooded by emails and comments from users.

HOT TOPIC RESPONSE: It’s something really cool for everyone (meaning something to do with something surrounding the Twilight DVD and Hot Topic that everyone who visits a Hot Topic can appreciate, not that every single person who guesses will get a prize***)  but who ever guessed it gets Twi Merch.

So here is what the Lexicon is going to do to be as fair as we can be.
If you want to be eligible to win, you have to play along and comment on each week’s hint thread. Then when it comes to the final hint, we’ll pick a random winner from the commenters.

***This info in parenthesis is a Lexicon clarification, not Hot Topic’s words.

Catherine Hardwicke Tells All to Forbes

So just how big is the gender gap in Hollywood?  Several female directors tell all to Forbes, among them is Catherine Hardwicke.   Looks like whoever said this, didn’t see a certain ballet scene!

There’s also the perception that a woman simply can’t direct a big, male-oriented film: “People have literally said to my face that I can’t do action,” says Hardwicke, who has worked as a stunt coordinator as well as directed the action-packed Lords of Dogtown and put her signature action stamp on Twilight. “That does make me mad. There’s a lot of stuff they would never say if I were a guy.”

Catherine goes on to say:

“I’ve been on a set where actors have meltdowns, there’s screaming people, the director is yelling, cussing, there’s physical abuse, emotional abuse,” says Hardwicke, who worked as the production designer on the notoriously contentious set of David O. Russell’s Three Kings. “And that is all OK. But if I turn my head to the side, privately, and one tear comes out, I get nailed for it.”

Attention Hollywood! We have money, we will spend it if you’ll only give us what we want. It’s different than what the guys want; it doesn’t make it better or worse just different. So listen up and you’ll get our dollars!

Five Reasons Why New Moon Will Be Better Than Twilight

The Deadbolt gives their spin on why New Moon will top Twilight. Our favorite was this one (super cool that someone has actually read the books!):

“In other words, with such a profound back-story between werewolves and vampires, New Moon will explore more while connecting on a deeper level to Bella. In many ways and aspects surrounding the Quileute Tribe and the legend, New Moon should tap into the book on better levels than that of Twilight. The legend and the expanded significance of Jacob will take fans on a darker journey while evoking more complex emotions than Twilight.”

We’re looking forward to great news from the deadbolt in coming months since they are based out of Vancouver, Canada where much of teh movie will be filmed.

Oh Canada!

Canadian fans have two things to celebrate.  First, Chapters/Indigo the booksellers are committed to midnight DVD parties for the Twilight movie. Check out if the Chapters near you is one of the participating stores. According to Chapters,

Canada’s Twilight Headquarters will host “Twilight Movie Night” starting at 9pm on Friday, March 20th, 2009 at select Indigo and Chapters stores nationally and will feature:

– in-store screenings of the movie

– trivia games, contests and prizes

– free refreshments”

Next up, Canadian music chain, Sunrise records, has a Twilight contest going. The prize is a $400 dollar Twilight gift pack including merchandise exclusive to Sunrise records and items from NECA. One of the items is a “Vampire mini kit” we’re not sure what that is, do you get your own venom booster shot? Other items include the new watches and bracelets coming out in NECA’s spring line. Check them out.

A Double Dose of MTV

MTV talked to My Chemical Romance about what movies they might consider writing music for. Unfortunately it seems like the band makes the mistake that a lot of people do and think Twilight is a typical fangs, blood, and gore vampire movie. The band is on the playlists for Twilight and Eclipse and has been a fan favorite for years.  Maybe they might want to talk to Justin of Blue October or Matthew of Muse, then they’ll get it.

MTV also has a feature, given that the Oscars are coming up, on the year 1999, which is considered a modern great year for movies, kind of the way 1939 is considered a great year for Golden Age of Hollywood movies. One of the people they interview in their 1999 retrospective is Catherine Hardwicke.

Twilight Makeover

Lexiconer Luna pointed this dress up game out to us. It’s pretty cool, not your typical dress up game. It’s a little revealing, but it’s still PG-13.

Today is Your Birthday!

There are a bunch of birthday projects in the works for various Twilight actors.

If you are a Kellan Lutz fan, than Kellan Lutz online has a project you want to look at.

If you’re a Rob Pattinson fan, and who isn’t, the folks over at Twilight Mafia have a project going.

Borders Calendar and More

Borders has been working overtime to plan out midnight release parties for the DVD.  They came to us for a little help, which of course we gave them, but we have to say their plans (to be unveiled shortly) totally rock. Seriously, we were impressed.

One of the upcoming items you can preorder from Borders either online or at the DVD party is their 18 month Twilight calendar. Borders has confirmed with us that they are the only retailer that will have an 18 month version of a calendar.

MTV Interviews NECA

NECA is one of the companies licensed to produce Twilight merchandise. We showed you the Alice action figure that they debuted at the New York Toy Fair. Well MTV has their company’s rep explaining the whole upcoming line.  There’s lots more to come!

Peter Facinelli Talks New Moon Prep!

Hey Peter, exactly what’s in that vampire oath? 🙂

In case you’re wondering where Access Hollywood caught up with Peter and Jennie, it was the 11th annual Costume designers Guild Awards. Check out the fabulous photos and write up.
