Stephenie on Readergirlz Myspace community chat

Well I logged in and soon realized that the best I could do was just try to keep up with the speed: 1 hour, 131 pages, over 1800 posts.  You can find Stephenie’s posts (look for the distinctive icon with her and Matthew Bellamy of Muse.) on pages:

4, 14, 20, 22, 35, 40, 44, 74, 78, 87, 90, 93, 94, 95, 100, 101, 105, 109, 112, 114, 120, 121, 131

If I missed a post let me know and I’ll add it in.  Hats off to readergirlz for hosting.  If you would like the condensed version of only Stephenie’s posts, you can find it here.

Pel.

Edited to include brilliant suggestion from Mallie:

Advice for anyone who doesnt want to troll through all 131 pages (coz lets admit it, no one wants to read anything without Stephenie :P )

Where it says page= in your URL, change it for the page you want, minus one

e.g. page 114 is page=113, and page 100 is page=99

🙂 hope this helps. Yay for Stephenie :D
xx Mallie

Edited yet AGAIN to ask for help from everyone at the Lex.  We did learn a few things from this chat, but for me, I’m never certain what is obvious and what isn’t.  I’m a bit too deep into it and I find myself ALWAYS saying, "Didn’t we already know that?"  So what I need from everyone who reads over Stephenie’s posts is to tell me what YOU learned and what was new to YOU.  Hop over to the message boards and let me know which parts were new to YOU and you think should be added to the PC section of the Lexicon.  Of course I will give credit to the readergirlz, but this way the information will be easier to find for future fans.

Oh, and did you see the one girl who painted her room in the book covers and the top pic from the Lex?  That room was AMAZING.  I was impressed!

The movie…one more time…with feeling

There is no more casting info available. The last we heard, it’s being handled the way over 90% of films are. This means they are looking for professional actors, with experience, who have agents who represent them. This does not mean they are going to cast someone really famous who everyone knows, and it doesn’t mean they are going to cast an unknown.

What is means is that they are going to cast someone with training (either via camera technique classes, acting classes, who has been in film/TV or all of the above) who knows it’s not all bright lights and glory. They can hit a mark, find their light, hold up under multiple takes, hold character and performance level in a story arc shot out of sequence, know how to deal with close ups vs. long shots, etc. etc. It further wouldn’t surprise us if they cast people who were already 18 so that they don’t have to worry about child labor laws and schooling on set. The producers have the time to film a movie not teach Acting For Film 101. In general no one casts someone with utterly no experience of any kind to play the leading teenage role  where they will be in practically every scene in a multi-million dollar movie that is the adaptation of a bestselling novel.  There’s way too much at risk.

You may think this unfair, shortsighted,…heck you can think whatever you you want, regardless, that’s the way it is. Stomp your feet, throw a pillow, scream out the window release the frustration, whatever you need to do. In case you’ve never experienced this phenomena before, welcome to the real world, life is not fair.

If they want to cast a smaller role in a different way than usual For example, perhaps they might want someone who is actually a physically challenged Native American to play Billy Black (I’m not saying they do this is ONLY AN EXAMPLE.) The producers will reach out to organizations that are best suited to contact members of whatever group they are seeking.

Mailing, emailing, calling, complaining to, sending you resume to the Lexicon, Stephenie Meyer, Summit Films(unless you are a pro going through standard process, in which case you are probably laughing and shaking your head at all of this.) does nothing to help you get a role.  Most of the above is guaranteed to do one thing and one thing alone: DRIVE US CRAZY to the point that if casting were in our hands you would be the last person on the planet we’d ever recommend. Bombarding any of us with these things only serves to slow us down with what we regularly do. So, if you would like a website run efficiently (And I assume a new book written and a movie made, since we do not speak for Summit or Stephenie on this I can only guess what they have to deal with given what our mailbag looks like.) sometime before you are older than Edward, STOP PESTERING PEOPLE.

I am leaving the comments off, because really there is nothing more to say.   Any comments on the movie made in a front page post that does not specifically involve the movie will be deleted.

Revamping of the message boards

Announcing: Sparkling in the Sun Forum Rehab!

Occasionally forums on the Lexicon need rehabilitation. They become addicted to IMing, and off topic posting. When this happens we hold a massive intervention and send the Forum to Lexicon Rehab. The Sparkling in the Sun Character Discussion forum has just returned from Rehab, it saw Lindsey Lohan while it was there and tried to convince her to read Twilight. Sadly she refused. We do have high hopes however that like Lindsay, it will now be on a better track. Now it’s back and ready to do its job as nature *coughPelcough* intended. Which is….

A SERIOUS character discussion Forum.

From now on the Sparkling Forum promises that you will have a place to have meaningful discussions on the characters in Twilight. A place to have deep, heartfelt, communication on the characters behavior and attitudes. This forum is not to be confused with a debate forum. We have threads for that already over in Quench Your Thirst. This is a place to discuss, peacefully, the characters of Twilight, and express your thoughts in incredibly longwinded posts, complete with quoting and obscure references. In other words discuss away, but save the intense, nitty gritty, devil’s advocate debate for the debate threads. They are fairly easy to spot in that they have a vs. in the title or they have a specific topic posted that members debate upon for several pages or so before moving on to a new topic. We are not saying the character forums have to be totally fluffy, just fluffier than debate.

The following types of posts will be deleted or edited by Mods without warning:

  1. IMing (Things like, "i’m bored", "why isn’t anyone posting", "Be back after dinner")
  2. Off topic posting (Things like, "You know Jacob reminds me of a day at the beach. Anyone ever been to Daytona?)
  3. “OMG He’s So Hot” (Suffice to say that the vast number of visitors here find Jacob and/or Edward…well…hot, desirable, fantasy worthy, and I think I better stop there before violating the site’s PG-13 policy.  In any case, we get it, we all get it no need to add to the never ending squee. Have a loves fest on your MySpace account not here. Too much condensed squee breaks teh sound barrier and annoys the neighbors.)
  4. Casting Discussion Posts

Also on tap for this week:

1) Look for the merge of the Eclipse Forum into the Quench your Thirst Forum. This is a normal procedure as many of you remember from New Moon’s Release. Now that the book is widely available there is no need for a separate discussion forum. Your post counts should not drop, however if there is a duplicate thread in both forums we may choose to lock one and move the discussion to the other. The software does not allow for us to combine threads or we would.

2) The final New Moon discussion questions will be posted very soon, be on the look out for those. As soon as that is complete we will be beginning our chapter discussion of Eclipse. This should be a very good discussion be sure to post your thoughts on the questions asked.

One final note. When the Messageboard is down please don’t use the front page comments as your own personal sounding board. Log onto chat, send an e-mail, go read a book, whatever, but stop using this page as a chat room. Reading endless off topic replies is annoying to our members.

Contest deadline tonight

Just a reminder that the two word slogan character contest being sponsored by Stephenie’s website ends tonight!  Don’t miss out. According to her webmaster:

"Just a reminder: the contest ends tonight at 11:00pm PST. At that time we will stop accepting entries and will hopefully have some winners within a few days. Good luck!"

Also remember that you have to join the readergirlz MySpace group in order to participate in the Halloween chat (I sure hope they are prepared for the 1,000’s of fans that will log in. I have visions of Stephenie’s fans killing the MySpace server). It takes them a bit of time to approve your membership, so don;t wait until the last second and miss out!

Movie News and chat news

Direct from Stephenie’s Website:

"With the Twilight movie in pre-production, there have been a lot of rumors floating around in regards to a script, casting information and shooting locations. There will not be an open casting call for the movie (please note, Stephenie is not responsible for casting the movie) — all auditions are being held within the Screen Actors Guild. We are working closely with Summit Entertainment to ensure that Stephenie’s website will have the most up-to-date and accurate movie information."

So folks, what that means unless you are a SAG member, (and even then if you are a SAG member, you know that having great representation, connections, and luck have a lot to do with it to.) the roles in Twilight are not up for grabs for the general public.

Also, if want to participate in the Halloween chat, you have to join the readergirlz MySpace group to participate.  So if you are not a member of that MySpace group, join it this weekend in case there is slow processing time.

EDITED TO ADD (10-28-07): I have disallowed comments on this topic. The front page is NOT the place to carry on conversations, movie related or otherwise. And, as a side note, please be polite to each other on this site.

Halloween Happenings

There’s a lot going on this Halloween, and I don’t just mean the collection of candy and parties.

  1. Eclipse releases in the UK, Ireland, and Spain. According to Crepúsculo, the Spanish version of the Lexicon, Stephenie will videotape a special message to her Spanish fans that will be played at the FNAC bookstores.
  2. Also on Halloween, Stephenie will be doing a chat via the readergirlz site. The Chat is at 12:00 midnight Eastern USA time, 11:00pm Central, 10:00pm Mountain, and 9:00pm Pacific.  That would be 5:00am November 1 and 6:00am November 1 for the UK and Europe mainland folks. I tried to do the Australian conversion (Are you 14 or 16 + hours at this time of year?)and I think its around 2:00pm on November 1.
  3. If you are going as Edward, Bella, Jake, the Cullens,  or anyone from the Twilight Saga to a Halloween Party this year. Let me know ([email protected]). We’ll put up some pictures of the different characters as we get them.

Speaking of parties, we just added something to the Twilight Lexicon Shop. The other day a friend was mentioning that her daughter was having a Twilight Themed party, but there were no Twilight invitations out there. Well, now there are invitations, thank you notes, and even signs to put in your lawn for your very own Twilight themed party.

voting closes tomorrow for Teen Read Week

This year New Moon is eligible to be in the top ten teen reads. Go over to the Teen Reads Site and vote by tomorrow!

New Foreign Sites

We are adding the link for Twilight Brasil today.

Breaking Dawn Status According to Stephenie

The below was in response to August 10th being an assumed release date.

"There is no official release date for Breaking Dawn, and for a very good reason: I haven’t finished it yet. Now that I’m (mostly) done with running around the world to promote Eclipse, I can settle in and work on BD. However, you never know how long it will take. I have roughly 1/3 – 1/4 left to write, and that could take a while.

Another thing–BD would not come out on a Sunday. Tuesday is usually the day things are released. Another point is that I wouldn’t do a live morning show on Sunday, and they’re going to want me to do that.

So don’t circle the tenth of August on your calendar or make a cool counter yet. I’ll let you know when there is an official date."

Stephenie on CNN INternational and upcoming contests

Stephenie was interviewed on Cnn International. This is a better interview than some that have recently been out. No really new information, but it sounds like the interviewers had actually read the books, or at least were interested in what Stephenie had to say. On a personal note, finally…FINALLY…someone asked, "Do you have many adult fans?"

There is a character slogan contest being sponsored by Stephenie’s website. Entries are being taken starting Monday.

There is a also a contest (Thanks to the Italian Twilighters website for the heads up!) being sponsored by the Italian publishers of Twilight.

Both contests are open to people from around the world.
