Justin Furstenfeld: Still a Stephenie Meyer Fan, but Management Not So Much

LifeJustin

To anyone who listens to Stephenie Meyer’s playlists, you realize that band  Blue October has a prominent place on them.  Justin Furstenfeld, lead singer of the band, even toured with Stephenie Meyer at the four signings she did for Breaking Dawn, (New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle) back in summer/fall 2008 called the Breaking Dawn Concert Tour. (See photo above via LIFE and the video below)

Justin has made no secret of his life-long battle with depression, and he sat down with Blast magazine(the first interview in awhile)  now that he is back from a publicized stint in rehab and ready to tour again (notably with an upcoming concert at The House of Blues). He talked no-holes-barred about a number of things, Stephenie Meyer included,

According to Blast:

“Furstenfeld did just that during our conversation[be unafraid to talk about elephants in the room] — he talked about his love for “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer and his disdain for her representation*. Rumors circulated last year that Blue October, who toured with Meyer, would have a song on one of the Twilight soundtracks. But it never came to pass, and the reasons behind it remained a mystery.

“Me and Stephenie Meyer are great friends,” Furstenfeld said. “I hate her camp, but I love her. Stephenie Meyer had the balls to take me to dinner…she said, ‘I wanna put your songs in my movies…’ and I was like, ‘Wow. That’s my dream — let’s do it.’ First movie comes out, no song. Second movie comes out, no song. Her management was like, ‘Everything we told you was a lie.’”

See the rest on Blast.

Would you have wanted Blue October music on the Twilight movie soundtracks?

*Note: It is unclear to which representative(s) specifically Justin is referencing: Summit, Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz, Alexandra Patsavas,  Little Brown , or someone else entirely..

Alex Meraz In Australia

AlexKolaAlex Meraz was in Australia as part of the Supernova Convention. The brand new fansite, The Meraz Effect, has a rundown of Alex’s Q & A on both days that he appeared. Here’s a tidbit from day 1:

~Alex believes he walks a fine line when it comes to representing Native Americans. He says you have to be careful how you represent them.

~Julia got sick of the wolfboys continuously goofing around on set – which helped her look convincing as Leah on screen.

~His brother’s comic books were part of his inspiration for his artwork.

~If the wolfpack were superheroes, Kiowa would be the villain and his power would be height, Bronson’s power would be the ability to laugh, Chaske would have the power to fly, and Alex would have the power of speed.

~FOUR TO THE FLOOR and ON THE RUN not going to be seen anytime soon. FOUR TO THE FLOOR is being edited. ON THE RUN producers haven’t gotten back to him since casting.

~In New Moon when Paul says sorry – that was all Alex! He thought it would be weird if he just walked into Emily’s place and didn’t say anything or acknowledge Bella right after trying to attack her. Kristen backed Alex up and he got to say his line. Plus, this was his favorite scene.

Read the rest of day 1 here and day 2 here.

Alex also Tweeted a photo of himself holding a Koala saying, “Koalas are like holding a sleepy old man!! I got in trouble for trying sneak him into my backpack :(.”  He’s luckier than Charlie Bewley and Tinsel Korey who also held koalas when they were in Australia a few months back. They were not dry after their experiences. Maybe the koala like Alex better? 🙂

Taylor Lautner Star Ambassador Madrid

Earlier this month Taylor was in France as part of the Star Ambassador contest where a French fan and a Spanish fan won a date. Well now he’s moved on to Spain where he was on hand to greet fans.

The German New Moon DVD Release

Chaske Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Bronson Pelletier were on hand in Germany for the release of the New Moon DVD (imagine having to wait a month longer than the USA!).

You can find more video here. Granted a lot is in German, as you would expect, but there is a fair amount of English as well.

Billy Burke’s New Website Goes Live!

Billy Burke tweeted the other day about having a new website and seeing if he could promote a music project by not going through the (frankly in our opinion antiquated) record label system. Well, by all accounts it is a wild hit. We think the number of people hitting the site as it launched even surprised Billy. If you follow Billy on Twitter and in interviews, you know that he is a guy that doesn’t got surprised easily.

In the welcome message of his new site, Billy talks about his acting and unfortunately his much delayed music career. He also waxes on as he reminisces about the Seattle music scene of the early 1990’s when grunge was coming into its heyday and Kurt Cobain and Nirvana were leading the charge out of the bubblegum 1980’s. Billy then sums it all up by saying:

“It’s been 19 years since the Caddy sputtered into Hollywood, low on oil with a driver even lower on outlook. In those years and throughout his sometimes rosy, sometimes less than stellar career as a film and TV actor, that “driver” has continued to write songs. Songs that reflect the ongoing experience of never knowing. Songs that he hopes might speak to those with similar presentiments and with any luck, those who just dig some music.

So here, on the precipice of two decades into what was always intended to be a “duel career”, I am about to share with you what was supposed to be the FIRST half, but has now become the second…

With the exception of a couple of very special guest musicians whom I’m beyond elated to have coming in, initial tracking for my first LP is now complete. We’ve got some mixing and mastering yet to do but we’re almost there. It has been such a… treat for me to be able to work with the caliber of artists we’ve gathered to make this thing happen. Much credit and my ongoing gratitude goes to producer David Darling who saw my vision and fearlessly brought it to life as no one before ever has. I’m not gonna put any useless preconceptions out there and tell you what “kind” of music it is or who you might compare it to so…

We’re just gonna give away one of the tracks for FREE. Give it a listen. Decide for yourself. To be honest, I’m not sure how long the “freebie” will be available as I’ve gotten quite a bit of resistance to this idea, (Whatev. It’s my music, I’ll do what I want with it) so… GET ON THE LIST AND GET IT NOW. As soon as it’s ready, you’ll be emailed a copy.

In addition to the album, we’ve got some other good shit in store for the early subscribers in the months ahead. As we work out the details, you’ll be informed on how to get in on it. Don’t be shy. Leave a comment, question or unsolicited rant. I’ll be as diligent as I possibly can in responding to everyone …

At the risk of sounding all squishy and sentimental, this venture has been a long time coming for me, so I really would like to thank you all in advance for coming along…”

Don’t worry, Billy. It’s not too “squishy and sentimental” even if you are currently sporting a fine set of fully polished acrylics!  We’ll be downloading and giving the music a try. Rock on!

For those around the globe just enter ur city and convert to Los Angeles USA – www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

So, we have a couple of hours to go until we see Billy’s new site and get an opportunity to hear his music, which we are betting is old school rock in style.

Julia Jones Meet The Amazing Race

Fans of the shoe The Amazing Race may remember a brother and sister team from a few years ago, Blake and Paige. At teh time Blake was a recent college grad and budding entrepenuer. Their time in the race made Blake more aware of third world poverty and how in many nations children had no shoes. So he started a company to get shoes to the kids who didn’t have them and now he’s asking celebrity friends to help with the cause.

The LA Times reports:

“Toms Shoes, the company that donates one pair of shoes to needy children around the globe for every pair of shoes they sell, asked friends to go barefoot on the beach to raise awareness for the cause.

On Thursday, Toms founder Blake Mycoskie left his slip-ons at home to mark the third year of One Day Without Shoes and asked friends, including actresses Olivia Wilde (“House”) and Julia Jones (“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”), to shed their heels at Axe restaurant and walk down Abbot Kinney to his sister Paige’s Aviator Nation boutique. The point is to drive home the message of what it would be like to spend a day barefoot as many people around the world do when they lack the means to purchase a pair.”

FearNet: Why Bill Condon Could Be Good For Breaking Dawn

Bill-CondonsoloJen Yamato from FearNet analyzes why Bill Condon could be the best thing for the Twilight franchise.

“Though it’s not yet official, this week’s news that Dreamgirls director Bill Condon has pulled into the lead to direct the remaining two films in the Twilight franchise has given us plenty of food for thought. What makes the Oscar-winning razzle-dazzle specialist a shoe-in to direct Breaking Dawn over other rumored contenders Sofia Coppola and Gus Van Sant?

Oscar Cred

Catherine Hardwicke had indie film respect (Twilight), Chris Weitz had slick CG epic filmmaking under his belt (New Moon), and David Slade seemed like a perfect genre director to bring the franchise into horror-thriller territory (Eclipse). But while each of the previous Twilight Saga directors has been well-suited to their respective adaptations in different ways, Condon brings with him a very important element that could help the franchise go out with a bang: his shiny Academy Award statuette, won in 1999 for writing the horror-related flick Gods and Monsters.

Condon notched another Oscar nomination for scripting 2002’s Chicago, the film musical that effectively relaunched the musical genre in modern-day Hollywood. And even when he didn’t directly receive Oscar nods or wins, his films have (Dreamgirls earned eight nominations and won two Academy Awards; Kinsey earned one nomination; and Gods and Monsters earned actors Ian McKellen and Lynn Redgrave their own respective nods). He also co-produced the 2009 Academy Awards telecast — which, if we all recall, wasn’t that well-received, but hey — it’s the Oscars!”
