ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 11, 2009 —“Twilight” fans are invited to Borders stores nationwide March 20 as the retailer rolls out the red carpet beginning at 10 p.m. to host special “Twilight” DVD release parties featuring the “Borders Twilight Movie Awards,” created in collaboration with Summit Entertainment, the film’s producers. The movie’s biggest fans will select the winners of the “Borders Twilight Movie Awards” at each Borders store in 10 categories, such as “Best Bella-Edward Moment,” “Best Vampire” and “Best OME (Oh My Edward) Moment.” To cast their votes, fans simply download a ballot at www.bordersmedia.com/twilight, complete it and bring it with them to the midnight release party. At the end of the game, one MVP—“Most Vampiric Player”—will be selected from each team.

Leaders of the Most Popular Fan Sites to Celebrate at Borders

The superfans behind the top fan sites – Web sites like Twilight Lexicon, Twilight Series Theories and TwilightLive – recognize that Borders stores will be the places to be on Friday night, March 20, as they count down the final minutes until the DVD goes on sale. On the big night, only Borders will host five of the nation’s leading fan sites as they help us celebrate the release of “Twilight” on DVD. Webmasters of the following sites will appear at Borders stores:

  • Twilight Series Theories at Borders in Allen, Texas
  • Twilight Lexicon and TwilightLive at Borders – Penn Plaza in New York City
  • Twilight Lexicon at Borders – Westend in Nashville, Tenn.
  • TwilightSource and Twilight Facebook at Borders in Westwood, Calif.

At the Penn Plaza and Nashville parties, leaders from Twilight Lexicon will participate in the festivities by challenging attendees to correctly answer trivia questions they created during the “Grand Slam Lightning Round” of Vampire Baseball-themed “Twilight” Trivia.

    Borders Twilight Parties — 3

Customers who want to purchase the Borders exclusive limited-edition DVD at the parties should arrive early to receive a wristband, which guarantees the opportunity to purchase the special DVD. Most stores will begin distributing wristbands when they open the morning of March 20 and will only provide wristbands for as many exclusive DVDs as are available for purchase at the store. Again, because supplies of the exclusive DVD are limited, customers are encouraged to come to the stores early to receive a wristband. If customers are unable to receive a wristband, they can, of course, purchase the regular “Twilight” DVD.

“We have put together an amazing line-up of activities and entertainment for our ‘Twilight’ DVD midnight release parties,” said Anne Kubek, executive vice president of Merchandising and Marketing for Borders Group. “These activities were designed with the true fan in mind—the customer who lives and breathes all things ‘Twilight.’ From the parties, to the books, to an extensive selection of ‘Twilight’ products, to the soon-to-be-released Borders exclusive limited-edition DVD, we are truly the headquarters for all things ‘Twilight’ and we intend to throw great in-store parties that fans will remember for years to come.”

Additional Twilightthemed Products

In addition to the DVDs, Borders offers an incredible selection of “Twilight”-themed items, including a Borders exclusive 18-month “Twilight” calendar featuring beautiful movie stills as well as t-shirts, jewelry, posters, bookmarks, an Edward action figure and, of course, the Twilight Saga—“Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn.” All of these “Twilight”-related products are gathered in one sweeping display at the front of our stores that is sure to attract shoppers thirsty for vampire memorabilia.

Forkfuls: The New Moon Cast

SPOILER TV There are various photos of the cast as they came outside during a break today. You can see them in various stages of make-up, wig, and wardrobe tests. The first pictures of Nikki Reed and Taylor Lautner in their wigs. We are also wondering if they have gone with a wig for Jackson Rathbone since part of his hair is shaved close to his head and is dark for his role in The Last Airbender which he is shooting at the same time. DVD Extra From Summit

MTV has the Comic Con behind the scenes and Larry Carrol walks down memory lane.

Variety Adds Fuel to Leak

It was leaked yesterday that Juan Antonio Bayona protege of master director Guillermo Del Toro was in the running for the Eclipse job.

Today, Variety has added to these rumors stating that not only has Bayona been offered the job, but he’s actually landed it. They state:

“Summit, which had no comment Wednesday, is expected to make the official announcement soon.”

Generally speaking Variety, like EW and Nikki Finke, is one of those sources you can rely on.

Let The Eat Cake: Kristen Stewart’s More Than Simple Dessert Role

Here’s what Larry Carrol of MTV had to say about Kristen Stewart’s performance in The Cake Eaters:

“1. Nobody eats cake in it.

2. The word “cake” is never actually uttered.

3. It might just be the best performance of “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart’s young career.”

Now here’s what Collider says. They routinely provide some of the best interviews and don’t get enough recognition. They ask decent questions that get indepth answers like this from Kristen Stewart:

“Like Aaron said. The one thing that the movie has is an unabashedly outward sense of hope. It’s a very positive movie which is commendable considering it’s about a girl who is gonna die before she reaches the age of normal consensual sex. So, that’s a feat in itself. Hopefully [audiences] can take from it real characters that actually affected them and put their faith in characters for a good hour and a half. That says something.”

Media Blvd also weighs in with their interview here.

I was so intimated by the character that I didn’t start any physicality before, literally, the first day of shooting. I just couldn’t stop thinking about it…I couldn’t physically do it until the day we started shooting because it felt like I was faking something. Until it was actually real, in the moment, and we were actually doing it and I was actually playing this person, then it felt right to do it. But, before that, it just didn’t feel right.”

Robert Pattinson In GQ

Thanks to the 3 million people who emailed in, the sound you hear is cash registers ringing up purchases of the most recent issue of GQ.  Get the full article here and the FANTASTIC slide show (I think I need a glass of water) right here.

Here’s what Kristen Stewart had to say about Rob:

“He can’t lie,” she says. “It makes things a little scary for him sometimes. But it’s my favorite thing about him.”

Pocket Edward Is Back!

Many of you know that Lauren, of the Lauren’s Bite blog, posts from time to time about her adventures with her Edward action figure, AKA Pocket Edward.

Recently she took Pocket Edward to Disney where clearly he ate too much food. This time out, Lauren has Pocket Edward maintaining those rock hard abs. Of course this involves specially devised, sparkly equipment. If you value your computer monitor, put down all liquids before clicking!

Volterra Wants New Moon!

The city of Volterra and Italian Twilighters are mobilizing to try to encourage Summit to actually film in Volterra and not just some generic town in Italy.

Usually when they make choices not to film in an actual town, it has nothing personal to do with the people there. It has to do with cost, accessibility, and support services.

Here’s what the organizers have in mind:

We’d like to humbly ask for your support for an important initiative to Help the City of Volterra host the filming of New Moon and to show you some great material we created.

Summit Entertainment confirmed that part of the movie filming will be done in Italy.
However, the town of Volterra is seriously risking of not being considered as the location for the filming.

This is why we wanted to show you the real Volterra.
We went there. We tracked the “real” steps of Alice, Bella and Edward in Volterra with beautiful photos and videos.

Watch our footage, completely translated in english for your users: you’ll realize why having a fake Volterra in New Moon would mean stripping the film of a part of its magic. You’ll see a little screenshot of some content we created in a picture attached to this email.

And after that, if you’ll still have any doubt about Volterra being up to the expectations for the film, read the official interview we had with the city representatives, coming tonight.

At this link you’ll get a view of the story where it was supposed to unfold.

We beg you, please spread the word to your users. We need to get as many signature as possible to the online petition “I LOVE VOLTERRA”, to ask Summit Entertainment to choose Volterra as the only Italian location for the movie.
