Ashley Greene Reaching Out

Ashley Greene has previously been known for her support of the organization Donate Your Dress that gives gently used formal wear to girls who couldn’t otherwise afford prom and special occasion dresses. She’s now branching out to help with a group that aids the homeless.

“This holiday season I’m filming the DoSomething.org ‘Teens for Jeans’ campaign PSA to encourage teens to donate their gently worn jeans to homeless youth,” says Greene.

How does the campaign work?

The third annual Teens for Jeans drive encourages teens to drop off their gently worn jeans to any Aéropostale store anytime between Jan. 19th and Feb. 14th, 2010. DoSomething “will make sure they get donated to a local homeless shelter or charity.

As an added bonus (beyond the good karma you’ll receive for giving back, of course), Aéropostale will give an additional 25% off on your next pair of jeans.”

Looking For The Exact Bella’s Bracelet

In the Twilight world there are a million knock-offs of everything from Edward’s gray pea coat to Alice’s gloves. It can be hard finding what is close to what is an exact replica.  Costume designer John Henson has that eye for detail, and he shares his latest find.

The one costume piece that’s been nearly impossible to find an exact match for is Bella’s beaded “prayer bracelet”. Worn above her black “St. Jude” bracelet on her left wrist, the enigmatic piece of jewelry has finally been found! Many interpretations have been made but none of them have been as precise as the copy by URBAN HARDWEAR. URBAN HARDWEAR was kind enough to send me a few examples of their work, and I highly, HIGHLY endorse them. Identical to the bracelet(s) that Kristen Stewart wears in “THE TWILIGHT SAGA”, each piece is custom-made…strung with beautiful hand-dyed wooden beads and a single hand-blown cobalt glass bead accented with enameled spots. The beads are intricately hand-laced and knotted with leather and finished with a lobster-claw clasp. The bracelets come in a very cool muslin draw-string bag with the URBAN HARDWEAR logo on it, which you can store your bracelet in when you’re not wearing it.”

Chaske Spencer Powers Up For New Years

Times Square and the famous ball drop is going green and Duracell and Twilight stars are helping. According to the Duracell Power Up website, “For the second consecutive year, Duracell is powering New Year’s Eve in Times Square. At the Duracell Smart Power Lab in the heart of Times Square, there are six Duracell Power Rovers. When Lab visitors pedal the Power Rover bikes, human energy is generated and then converted and stored in giant Duracell batteries. This pedal power will in turn be used to illuminate the iconic 2010 numerals at midnight when the Ball drops allowing Duracell to help power the decade to come.”

New York Times: Women in Hollywood

The New York Times has a great piece on how women in Holly wood are underrepresented in a myriad of categories, and how hopefully films like New Moon and The Blind Side are a wake-up call.

“New Moon” and “The Blind Side” might not make a lot of critics’ Top 10 lists, but their popularity with audiences is good for women in film — and might be too great for even Hollywood to ignore. For years the received wisdom, both in the industry and the press that covers it, has been that women don’t go to the movies and can’t open movies. Although recent hits like “The Devil Wears Prada,” “Sex and the City” and “Mamma Mia!” have helped put a dent in that thinking, it will take more than millions of teenage girls (and their moms) squealing in delight at sparkly vampires and hairy beasties with swollen deltoids before real change will come to American movie screens. Women need to develop their own muscles.

I’m not talking about those buff babes who pop up in adolescent fantasies, licking their lips as they lock and load; I’m talking about movies made for and with women. I’m also talking about movies directed by women. Here’s a little history: Only three women have been nominated as directors by the academy in 81 years: Lina Wertmüller for “Seven Beauties” in 1976; Jane Campion for “The Piano” in 1993; and Sofia Coppola for “Lost in Translation” in 2003. None won. At a glance this year looks promising, with high-profile titles like Kathryn Bigelow’s “Hurt Locker,” Nora Ephron’s “Julie & Julia,” Lone Scherfig’s “Education” and Ms. Campion’s “Bright Star,” all of which have been too successful, critically and commercially, to dismiss.”

Eclipse To Go IMAX

According to the Cinematical Twitter, Eclipse is going to be releasing in not only regular theaters, but also IMAX theaters. The information is also now being confirmed by the official Twilight movie Twitter.

The movie is also following in the footsteps of the next Harry Potter movie by releasing on a Wednesday rather than a Friday. So for all you midnight release people that means lining up on a Tuesday night.  A midweek release, in theory, produces a strong opening. Also since Eclipse opens on June 30th, it opens in advance of those traveling for the July 4th holiday in the USA.

EDITED: Collider has the official press release:

Twilight moviegoers will have a whole new way to experience this next installment of the series, with the enhanced image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience putting them IN the movie,” said Richie Fay, Summit Entertainment’s President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution. “The IMAX release puts us on the event film calendar for 2010, and we’re very excited to work with IMAX to bring a new kind of film to the IMAX theatre network.”

“Our 2010 film slate continues to fill out with strong titles, and a film from this incredible franchise is a very welcome addition,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “This title fills a valuable spot in our 2010 summer release window, and will no doubt thrill IMAX audiences.”

“We’re very excited to work with our new partners at Summit Entertainment to transport the very loyal and enthusiastic Twilight fans into the world of the Volturi via The IMAX Experience,” added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “With our growing theatre network, we’re poised to take advantage of the rapidly growing fan-base devoted to this dynamic, cutting edge series.”

So are you an IMAX or a regular theater kind of viewer, or both?
