Report from the Twilight Director’s Notebook signing

A big thank you to Lexicon member SSVD and her daughter who attended the signing event on Tuesday.  Check out there write up of events below and stay on the look out for the video of all the action!

My daughter and I arrived in Santa Monica at 6pm and were greeted by Ann-Laurel  from Barnes and Noble, given our red VIP bracelets and then introduced to Elizabeth, Stephenie Meyer’s publicist, who showed us to our seats right up front.

Catherine Hardwicke and actor Edi Gathegi were already on stage rehearsing certain portions of the up coming show. Then with the help of the Santa Monica High School video department, they set up the boat scene where James, Victoria and Laurent attack and kill Charlie’s friend, Waylon who is played by Ned Bellamy.

It was quite a surprise to see Ned on stage dressed in his green “Kiss me I’m Irish” T-shirt, (how appropriate for St Patrick’s Day!) and scuffed up leather jacket. (By the way, Ned has a wonderful singing voice!).

Three lucky Santa Monica High students were chosen to play the parts of James, Victoria and Laurent.

Once the introductions between actors were made, Catherine then went about setting up the shots, re-setting the shots, giving advice and then overseeing the scene. After this was all set, and rehearsed a couple of times, it was time to let the crowd in. When the audience was settled in, amid much screaming and shrieking, John from Barnes and Noble introduced Edi Gathegi who then served as MC throughout the rest of the evening.

Catherine was very warm and friendly and has a great sense of humor. It was clear to see she loves her job and had a wonderful adventure in filming Twilight and working with the marvelous cast. The questions she answered were all chosen earlier so I didn’t get a chance to ask any that were submitted, sorry. If you haven’t had a chance to pick up her book about the making of the movie, I can tell you it’s full of fun notes, off the wall trivia, sketches and pictures galore.

After Catherine and Edi thanked the audience for coming out, everyone lined up and lucky me… I was the first to have my book signed. Squeee! (I can tell you that will never happen again!)

Wonder What’s Up Lana’s Sleeve

Lana Veenker, the location casting director and the Northwest casting director of the speaking and featured roles extras casting director for Twilight, put this cryptic message up on her blog tonight. Yes, we tried to pry it out of her. No, it didnt work. Can’t blame us for trying. Anyone want to take a guess at what Lana is teasing us about?

“We’re about to make an announcement that we think our Twilight fan base will be interested in…plus a contest that I think all you Twihards will want to participate in (especially those based in the NW).

Stay tuned and check in often!”

Twilight Around the World

The LA Times takes a look at the Korean version of Twilight and wonders if readers, now that the DVD is about to come out, will still have the original version of the characters in the head, or Rob and Kristen.

For three years, the two characters lived only in the imaginations of their readers and looked however readers imagined they looked. There was room for the wispy and pastel-y Korean ideal, or any other. Any girl who loved the Twilight series could picture herself in Bella’s shoes — and house and school and Edward’s arms…”

Now we’ve all heard about the impact Twilight is having in France this week, and we recently saw obsessed fans in Japan. But how about other countries where reading is a luxury?  Well one fan decided to do something about it:

“The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer has had such an amazing impact on bringing people from all over the world together to celebrate its memorable characters and its unforgettable story.  If you could share one of these books with a less fortunate child in a different part of the world, would you not leap at the chance?”

Birthday Giveaway Number 1: The Answer

Phone call between Alphie and Pel on Monday night:

Pel: “So, have you seen the answers to-“

Alphie “HAHAHAHAHAHAA”

Pel: “I take it that means yes?”

Alphie: “HAHAHA…OK, I’ll stop. We were at-“

Pel and Alphie: “Lumos?”

Pel: “Talk about the power of mass suggestion!”

Alphie: “As big a dork as I am I’ve never been to a con for Harry Potter, Star Wars, Superman, anything.”

Pel: “Well, we’re making up for lost time then, cause at last count we’re doing at least three Twilight cons this year.”

So the answers to our first giveaway. Yes Alphie and Pel met in the Harry Potter fandom. Specifically, we are Remus Lupin fans, and we met on a site run by Alphie and some of her friends called The Werewolf Registry. But as long as you said something along the lines of “Harry Potter” you got the first part of the question right. Now for the second portion.  We first met face-to-face at Alphie’s house in Nashville, TN to see the midnight showing of The Goblet of Fire (oddly enough co-starring Robert Pattinson). So if you said something along the lines of it was for a Harry Potter movie release you got the second part right as well. So we threw the names of those getting the correct info into a hat and…drumroll please…Congrats to Irish Sheep! You have won an Ashley Greene signed tote bag!

We’ll be doing our next bit of site trivia on Friday as we continue to celebrate our birthday month, and this time it’s another tote bag up as the prize signed by a Peter Facinelli!
